Great! :)
I'm DarkokraD from metallicabb btw.

And once and for all... Do you use the optical cable and do you have
the digital in on your soundcard? Or is this too an analog mix like
the one from d3adliner?

And once again thank you!

Yes. I'm using the optical in on my M-Audio Firewire 410 audio
interface. There is no analog stage here.

For the record, here is my workflow:

- I record the song from Practice Mode on my computer by letting it
play from the menu. This gives me 99% of the audio needed for the
track. Unfortunately the beginning is often abbreviated and the end
fades out abruptly.
- I play the song in Quick Play mode on Easy with all sound effects
turned off. This lets me get the beginning and the end which I can
usually play perfectly.
- I then splice the two recordings together by zooming way in on the
WAV files and finding the exact sample match between the two files.
The result is seamless.
- Rinse and repeat.

What would you mean by mastering? What would you do there? If you do
it you could share it with the rest of us right? :)

Great work. There does seem to be this volume drop on "Line" around
7:15 though. Anyone else hear what I'm hearing?

But man, this is awesome overall. Kudos!

I hear it. I guess that's just how it sounds in Guitar Hero. I
didn't do anything to make that happen. The point where i spliced in
the end is later than that, so I know it's not a seam issue.

It's peculiar because I don't think I hear it in D3ADL1N3R's version,
although I could be mistaken. Do me a favor and check his out and see
what you think.

Again, please don't take this as nitpicking. The work you're doing is
beyond appreciated. I only have the PS2 version of GH. :P

yeah these are ok, but i thinkk you coud do better with FLAC, make
them a little louder, flawless and we got it made

I agree mate, anything is better than the actual CD release but so far
from what I have read and heard the best mix to get is this GH3.

Let me get this right, you have to actually play the game so you can
get the music so for example I know in D3ADL1N3R's version there are a
couple mistakes. But he clearly states it's his first atemp and only
on an anologue card plus the left and right channels are around the
wrong way.

But all this can be corrected so a few weeks down the road and we
could have the best version available

gla...@gmail.com

unread,
Sep 16, 2008, 5:58:47 PM9/16/08
to
There's some other oddness in D3ADL1N3R's version. In "BB&S", the
volume jumps as soon as the chorus kicks in.

And please don't jack the volume too much. Then we'll be right where
we started. It's best to keep it lower and use stereo equipment
that's capable of turning up the volume louder!

The community is awesome - keep up the good work!

The files should be normalised to be louder. That doesn't mean that he
will change ANY dynamics or that there will be ANY clipping... It will
just be a bit louder so that there isn't a huge difference between
other songs and this rip... No quality loss :) But it's not hard to do
that from the original FLAC so I don't mind if the quiter version is
uploaded :P

I'm so excited about this :)

Thanks a lot. I'm listening to a version done by D34DL1N3R (according to the
readme included) and it sounds MUCH better. Not sure if this is your doing
or not but it sure beats the hell out of the CD version. If this is you,
great job!

I think James' guitar is always slightly louder than Kirk's. Or in
this case, as with older albums, James' main rhythm track is louder
than his second

Listen to some of the livemetallica mixes and James' guitar is
noticeably louder in the mix than Kirk's until the solo's come in.

It should be working now. I had to change my router settings.

Well I've been going at this for 5 hours straight. It looks like
everything's up and running, so I'm going to bed. Keep those
invitations going and enjoy the rips.

Thanks for the super fast job! And thanks to Faust for his help.

Amazingly enough, another GH3 flac set has shown up on the Bay.
Anyone know anything about it?
