ROB ZOMBIE'S HELLISH TOUR KICKS OFF OCT. 6

Rob Zombie will kick off his North American tour on Oct. 6 at the
Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., along with the previously
announced
Monster Magnet and Fear Factory.

As Zombie told allstar in July, his stage set is going to look
like "a
huge palace in hell... it'll be a fuckwad of shit for theaters. All I
care
about is giving the kids a kick-ass show." Expect lots of pyromania
and
a
video screen backdrop.

The tour is his first solo outing to support his debut, Hellbilly
Deluxe,
which debuted at No. 5 on The Billboard 200 last week with more than
120,000 units sold in week one alone.

In other Zombie news, Geffen received an email from a student named
Brooks in Texas, who was written up and given four demerits for
wearing
a
Zombie T-shirt because it said "Hell" on the back. Apparently, the
teachers
think Rob Zombie is evil and the principal said that only birds are
supposed to have Xs on them (referring to birds as targets, and to the
X on
Zombie's forehead on Hellbilly Deluxe).

NATALIE IMBRUGLIA RACKS UP NINE ARIA NOMINATIONS

Continuing her attempt at global pop dominance, Aussie singer
Natalie
Imbruglia has racked up nine nominations for the upcoming Australian
Record
Industry Association Awards (that's Australian for Grammy) on Oct.
20 in
Sydney, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Imbruglia, who is up for two MTV Music Video Awards on these shores
this
Thursday (Sept. 10), nabbed nominations for Best Album (Left of the
Middle), Best Single ("Torn"), Female Artist, New Talent, Debut Album,
Debut Single, and Best Pop Release for the singles "Torn" and "Big
Mistake."

Savage Garden, who cleaned up with 10 awards last year, are battling
the
Superjesus, the Whitlams (who nailed down eight nominations),
Regurgitator
(eight as well, including two for Best Video), and You Am I in the
Best
Australian Group category.

An especially interesting battle is shaping up in the Best Female
Artist
category, where Imbruglia goes head- to- head with another former
Neighbours star, Kylie Minogue (remember "Locomotion"?), who left the
show
in the 1980s to pursue a music career. Monique Brumby, Kate Caberano,
and
Tina Arena round out the category.

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND READIES LIVE ALBUM FOR NOVEMBER RELEASE

The second in a series of Dave Matthews Band live recordings is
slated
for a November release on RCA Records. The as- yet- untitled album
follows
1997's platinum- selling Live at Red Rocks 8-15-95 double CD, the
first
of
several forthcoming live performance releases by the band. The
specific
concert that will be featured on the second two-CD set is still being
decided, but, like Red Rocks, will include a complete, unedited record
of
the group's concert from start to finish.

The impetus behind the live series was the overwhelming fan demand
for
quality live recordings of the band. Like fellow groove rockers the
Grateful Dead and Phish, the Dave Matthews Band has always encouraged
the
taping of their live performances, but the quality of said tapes is
obviously poor. At one point, the band even allowed fans to patch into
the
soundboard until the bootlegging of material got out of hand. The live
series is designed to discourage that practice while upping the
quality
of
the recordings for the fans.

Meanwhile, Matthews and Co. are currently in Los Angeles filming the
video for "Crush," the third single from the latest studio effort,
Before
These Crowded Streets. The band will perform "Stay (Wasting Time)"
along
with jazz great Bela Fleck at the 15th Annual MTV Music Video Awards
on
Thursday (Sept. 10).

Dave
Matthews Band).

GOSSIP:

Those of you who read a certain British music publication might have
noticed something familiar about their Sept. 8 story on New Order.
That's
because the band's quotes were apparently taken from allstar -- they
originated in Kevin Raub's exclusive interview with all four members
of
New
Order on Sept. 1. Yes, we're doing some wrist- slapping. Meanwhile, we
just
thought we'd remind you that you're always far more likely to read the
scoops here first...

Joan Jett is fine, but she had a seizure Tuesday (Sept. 8) night at an
ACLU
dinner honoring Danny Goldberg, chairman of the Mercury Records
Group at
Century City Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. While paramedics were on the
scene, Jett refused to go to the hospital. She was well enough to
make a
meeting at her label the next morning, though...

It's not yet confirmed, but it looks like Stabbing Westward might be
the
opening band for Depeche Mode's forthcoming North American tour. They
opened up the last leg of the Devotional tour, and have recently
expressed
interest in touring with them again and it seems like the feeling is
mutual. Purity is
opening up the European dates...

Contrary to published reports, Beck hasn't quite yet hired Anthony
Hoffer
as his new guitarist, according to a source at Geffen. If he does play
the
Silicon Planet Tour (he's still not confirmed for the shows), then he
will
have Hoffer alongside him, though those are the only plans he
apparently
has for the guitarist at press time...
