All right , let's take a vote. What is your favorite Megadeth song of all
time? Also, has Megadeth gotten soft since "Rust in Peace"?

Hmmm, favorite Megadeth song? I can't pick just one. Some of my
favorites are Victory, Skin of My Teeth, Ashes In Your Mouth, Wake Up
Dead. Can't narrow it down to just one. I don't think they've gotten
soft since Rust In Peace. I think they've grown. I think they've been
growing with every album.

ANGRY AGAIN is #1. Megadeth as most certainly "gotten soft" since RUST
IN PEACE. Nevertheless, they still kick everyone else's ass. CRYPTIC
WRITING will hopefully be heavier and faster than YOUTHANASIA.

Easy, "In My Darkest Hour". The Whole SFSGSW Kicks ass!!! Actually, I
like Killings my Busniess too. All the cds rock, some more that others.
Defintely seen a little softer side, so hopefully the new one will rock
out.

Holy Wars definetely. And yes they have gone soft.

Wake Up dead, Holy Wars, In My Darkest Hour ain't too bad either.

As far as Youthanasia goes, that solo from The Killing Road was one of
their better ones.
But most of the songs simply didn't go anywhere- many of the songs got
mushed together, and there weren't any big payoffs.

I wouldn't say "soft". "Disciplined" maybe. With both the advatges and
disadvantges. Some of the randomness and unpredictablilty, and the
rough unfinished edge is gone. But has been replaced by a more
controlled sound with many layered texture etc. One should not expect
anything else as these people are actually getting old. :-)
As for the latest work it does hold some of my faves: Diadems and Go
To Hell. Partly because they are very meldious and moody.Brooding.

my favorite Megadeth songs is Skull Beneath the Skin. I thought the
Youthanasia album was OK but I know they could have done better. I also
know that they will do better on Cryptic Writings!

Without a doubt - Tornado of Souls, a close second would be 502. As far
as them getting soft, I wouldn't say that, they still shred, just in a
different way. And at least they didn't wuss out like Metallica.

Boy, some people just don't like musical growth. Just goes to show you
how narrow minded some people are.

Well, here are the answers to your questions and a bit more:

- Favourite song: Countdown to Extinction;
- Honorable mention: Holy Wars;
- Least favourite song (aka I hate this song): Psychotron.

And yes, it is clear that they have gotten soft since "Rust in
Peace", but is it a problem? Why do metalhead always think it is
bad to get softer and softer? I don't understand.

Yes, pretty good song. But I agree with you. It is better to
have a song without Mustaine vocals than to have them with his
vocals.

Have you ever seen him live? He is one of the best rhythm
players, but his voice isn't very good. I think they should hire
a singer. Like Dream Theater. But this is just *MY* opinion.
And this whole thread is just people opinions, if you haven't
noticed.

Tornado of Soul is great, yes they're not heavy as they used to be but
the new album shows great things to come(it can't be worse than Load!!!)

I don;t mind mellowness here and there, but Youthanasia seemed too pop. There
wasn't much substance in a lot of songs. I liked Reckoning Day, Train of
Consequences (especially the solo section), and the Killing Road, but that was
it. Family Tree was damned annoying, although I liked one of the riffs in it.

Here's my favorite songs:

1. Holy Wars
2. Tornado of Souls
3. Hangar 18
4. Set the World Afire
5. Take No Prisoners
6. Go to Hell
7. Peace Sells
8. Symphony of Destruction

No way buddy, If you heard Load you cannot be saying that, load is completely
different from
Metal. Youthansia is still "heavy" while sounding great. I think any
MegaDeth fan who doesn't like 'Deth just because they aren't as fast
anymore or any other, is complete closed-minded fool.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this is a killer solo!!! In my
Darkest Hour wins best tune for me... NO they have not gotten "soft"--just
more depth and control in their music.

I have to disagree with you. Dave might not have the greatest vocal ability in
the world, but Megadeth would not be Megadeth without Dave singing. He has a
very unique voice and nobody should sing his songs but him. Here are my
favorite Megadeth songs:

1)Holy Wars
2)Into the Lungs of Hell/Set the World Afire
3)Hangar 18
4)Wake up Dead
5)Conjuring
6)Hook in Mouth
7)Rust in Peace
8)Liar

Albums:

1)Rust in Peace (my all time favorite tied with Maiden's Number of the Beast)
2)So Far...So Good...So What!
3)Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?
4)Countdown to Extinction
5)Hidden Treasures
6)Killing is My Business
7)Youthanasia (I sure hope the new one is NOTHING like this!)
