Maiden played the Oval in Norwich last night, weds 22/04/08.

The set started with Futurereal followed by The Angel and the Gambler
and then Ligthening Strikes Twice. In all they plated 7 of the new album
leaving out only Como Estais Amigos. Other tracks played (in no
order)...Iron maiden, Sanctuary,Wrathchild, Murders in the Rue Morgue,
Number of the Beast, Hallowed be thy name ,The Trooper,2 Minutes to
Midnight, The Evil that men do, the clairvoyant, Afraid to shoot
strangers, Fear of the dark, Sign of the cross, lord of the flies,
heaven can wait, man on the edge fortunes of war blood on the world's
hands and the aftermath...phew.

They sounded AWESOME...Blaze finally put the ghost of Bruce to bed with
the new songs coming over particularly strong.

AND I WAS THERE...UP THE IRONS!!

Richard.

Richard, you lucky bugger :)

How did Janick sound? I'm curious as to how he's handling the old
solos now, as his playing on the new album seems more... I dunno. Like
he's concentrating?

thanks for the post!!

such a promotion .....

how do the fans appreciate the new songs alive ?

>order)...Iron maiden, Sanctuary,Wrathchild, Murders in the Rue Morgue,

I hope they will do Murders in the rue Morgue in all venues !!!!!!!
This tour is gonna be explosive.

The Clansman together :(

Janick was awesome!! The intro to 2 minutes was note perfect.
Occasionaly his solo's have deviated from the originals and last night
was no exception but he played with real passion.

yes they played the whole of TAATG, the crowd went crazy foe the new
tracks, especially the clansman, IMO the new tracks work even better
live with the exception of Eyes of a stranger.
I don't think they will pay MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE on the tour as it
was played after the expected set...the main set lasted approx 90 mins
while in Norwich they played nearly 2 and a half hours.
As regards Run to the hills we have to accept that Blaze does not have
the range in his voice to sing it....it would be a shame for him to
murder a classic when he can select a track which play's to his
strength's.

regards Richard

Does this setlist seem a little to close to the X Factour setlist (except
for the new ones, of course) for comfort? I wonder if there are any
songs Blaze simply can't sing.

What about EDDIE !?

I was there too..........awesome is an understatement. It was good not to
hear Janick going too overboard, the new songs do sound excellent live (as
expected), the Clansman is good on the album, but live seems to elevate it
even further.
It was soooooooo hot in there.......must have been the electric atmosphere.
Was it me or did Janick seem obsessed by a small hole in the ceiling above
where he was playing? I spotted him several times staring at it or trying
to make it bigger with the headstock of his Strat' !
It's difficult to imagine anyone replacing Bruce, but Blaze is settling in
nicely, taking Maiden off on a new tangent, he has the ability to hold the
audience perfectly (BTW I like the way he communicates to the audience when
he wants them to sing and cues them in without saying a word, emphasised by
the intimate setting of the Oval).

Sorry to be the bringer of "not so good" tidings, but Eddie didn't make a
personal appearance at the Oval.
The Oval is just a "rockers" pub in the city of Norwich UK, similar to the
Ruskin Arms where Maiden played early in their career. There was no
elaborate stage set or backdrop just Maiden on a small stage with Marshall
stacks, a small PA, minimal light effects, and tons of adrenaline. I'd take
a guess at around 180 - 200 people were packed in shoulder to shoulder to
witness Iron Maiden in a pub. The atmosphere was electric.
I'm sure Eddie will materialise on the full set, but apart from a siting of
a Maidenesque creature lurking in a corner of the small Oval car park he
didn't appear in Norwich.
