I've listened to Magica about 7 times now since I bought it. I'm getting
the feeling(s) I did when I first started listening to Accident of Birth.
I like Magica. It's songs are good and the production is great. You can
hear everything going on. I think it's worth the money and I'll be
hopefully seeing the little guy up in NYC this next month.

thought Dio did a waaaay better performance when he opened for Maiden at the

If there's one thing I truly hate in this world it's somebody who doesn't

Ronnie's first band was The Vegas Kings. His second was Ronnie and the
Rumblers. His third was Ronnie and the Redcaps and they released their
first recording in 1958 (a 45 with "Conquest" on the A side and "Lover" on
the B side). He played bass and sang vocals. His band was composed of his
junior high/high school friends. There are several well known pictures of
Ronnie from the 50's as a *late teen* sporting a nice Elvis hairdo as well.
He was a very established club act in Cortland NY.
If you would like to continue by telling me that Ronnie was 8 years old when
he fronted his third band, sang vocals, played bass, and released his first
recording then be my guest, but you're going to look like a complete fucking
idiot.

'Aardschok' (April edition 2000) a Dutch Metal Magzine. His age was
mentioned there: 50 years!
If he did stuff in 1958, then he did it while he was 8 years old, which
makes me look like a complete fucking idiot in your eyes, but I don't really
care about that. He probably was a talent just like Michael Jackson who did
the same when he was young.

be so, then!

publication. He is *very* private about it ---- and it's due to the fact
that he's probably a little self-conscious about being a few years older
than most of his peers in metal. 'Aardschok' doesn't know dick about
Ronnie's age as Ronnie has never discussed his age. I'm not claiming I know
his exact age, but I think it's pretty evident that he's not fifty. By most
accounts he is somewhere between 59 and 61. He wasn't touring NY, playing
bass (and sometimes trumpet), writing songs, singing, fronting a band named
after him, and getting his first single released at the age of 8. There are
a few pictures out there of Ronnie during this period and I can assure you
he's not 8.

*1850's*. He may be old, but that picture I have of him crossing the Delaware
with George Washington is pretty powerful stuff. But I think that the Elvis

Actually, Aardschok is a well respected metal-magazine, being here since
1980, helping to promote a lot of metalbands, (like Metallica (hence the
booklet of their debut album), Slayer, Maiden, Manowar and a lot of others
including Dio). I have some Aardschoks from the mid eighties, also with
interviews with Dio.... this magazine isn't just a shitty magazine, I can
assure you.

I don't know.......but mastering bass, trumpet, singing and songwriting
would be pretty impressive for an 8 year old.

When he made his first release in '58, it was his third band. Thus, if he
was 8, there's a pretty good chance that he'd be younger with the earlier
two bands, dontcha think? Anyway, the point is moot, because he's not 50.

freshman in 1960. If he was 18 or 19 in 1960, that would make him almost 60

You simply can't believe this stuff. They don't know and more than Hit
Parader knows. Ronnie's age has been reported to be everything from 40 to
60. They simply get hold of the same bad information as Aardshok. His
birthday is correct, but not birth year. Ronnie and his management haven't
exactly squelched the rumors of being younger either. Why would he? For
whatever reason, he's self conscious about his age. If someone wants to
believe he was traveling NY, playing fraternity houses, fronting bands,
writing songs, playing bass and trumpet, and releasing 45's at the age of 9,
well, I can't stop you. However, I'm sure this will help a certain person
ignore virtually all the facts to the contrary.

summer. We'll just have to wait until July 10th to verify that one, though.
I've seen that year in several locations so that is the one I have more faith

the Portsmouth Herald, right next to the article about the effects of the
Spanish-American War on the American economy. I know for a fact that on July
10, 2000, Dio will be 98.
With respect to his name, if you still are that darn stubborn, and if you want
to hound the part of his family that still lives on Cortland, New York, you'll
find that they also use the same spelling. Here's a thought: Call them up and
say, "Hey, this be Forostar. Whazzzuuuuuuuuuuuup? I'm just sitting here
watching the game, having a Bud. True, true. Oh, and one other thing...Does
your rich dwarf with the monster voice spell his name the same as you?"
They'll respect you for it.

Believe me, for what I do for a living, I wish it were that easy. Frankly, 10
years ago, it would have been as simple as running a few computer reports. I
would have had everything you wanted to know about Dio, including the size of
his webbed feet. However, ever since that nut in California shot and killed an
actress by using information gleaned from motor vehicle records, much
information is a lot harder to come by. California usually leads, then the
rest of the country follows. A few months ago, the U.S. Supreme Court put a
stake in my heart with a decision regarding motor vehicle records. A lot of
available sources have dried up because of these stalkers. There's still ways
to get around the dried-up sources and the roadblocks placed by the various
states and the feds, but it's a lot more time-consuming than it used to be.
The Internet is great in that it helps provide leads and clues, but the real
information has to come the old-fashioned way, and that involves looking
through dusty books and files in cavernous 100-year-old buildings. His real
date of birth is out there and readily available to anyone who wants to find
it, but obviously, nobody is all that interested in taking the time.

Ummmm.....yes. But I would think that you would have inferred that, or I
obviously would have posted it in the first place.
Anyway, I could easily get his year of birth by using one of my programs, but
it would cost me about $20.00. Much more importantly, it would violate one of
my contracts, and I'm not going to risk that just to settle a dumb argument
between a few people in this newsgroup. A reasonable person should assume that
Dio was a teenager when the Indians kicked General Custer's ass, and just leave
his age at that.

Personally, I give the guy major high-5's for doing what he's doing at his

Yes, it was illegal to record when a person was under the age of 18. Indeed,
