You attend the 43rd best college institution in the United States, yet
your English and grammar skills are that of someone in elementary
school. I am assuming you are an international student, so Penn State
meets their quota, and well versed white students like me are denied
acceptance. Go figure.

let me assure you that Penn State didn't let me in for the sake of having
intl. students. My standardized test scores kick ass (higher than most
Americans' in my program). About the "no offense" part of your message, it
IS kind of offensive. I hope you are kidding about the "white student"
thing. BTW, I'm white, too, if you want to know (so I guess they don't
have anything against whites), but I still don't like the phrase. That
part of your message implies that if you are American, you are white!!
Doesn't sound very "politically correct" in the "land of affirmative
action," right??

I guess it was offensive to Oytun Palas, and it wasn't meant to be,
after all, it isn't his fault he got in the school. I guess it's just a
personal thing I have against affirmative action, and the fact that
American institutions often feel either your skin color or where you
live is more important than the work you have accomplished.

I completely agree with the fact that sometimes affirmative action admits
stupid people into schools or jobs just because they are minorities. I've
seen examples of it here, and I know what you are talking about. I was
just upset at clairvoyant's comments because he has a stereotype that every
non-american-white student is plain stupid and admitted only because they
are minority, international, whatever. If I believed I was stupid, I would
say "you're right, I shouldn't be here." However, I'm actually one of the
people that raise the program's GMAT average and things like that. I'm
just as smart, if not smarter than the average person in my program. So
when clairvoyant accused me personally, I just couldn't take it. I hope
you all see my point, and I'm sorry the IM newsgroup has been cluttered
with race issues and other non-relevant topics.

Whatever your opinions I don't think that people should be picking on
others about this - take it up with someone at the university, not students
who have done absolutely nothing wrong. As for picking someone up about
his grammar I think that's going a bit too far - I wish I could speak
Turkish as well as Oytun can with English.
Also, I don't think he was complaining at having to pay more - it just came
out as part of his *defence* about being at the university.
