With all this talk of Blaze getting fired, I'm wondering if I'm the only
person wishing that Janick would get fired SOONER! In my opinion, his
guitar playing sucks more than Blaze's singing. I'd rather see Adrian
Smith return before Bruce.....but I'd really like to see them both come
back where they belong!

I've been playing the Donington CD from the beginning and now am up to
Fear of The Dark. Yet again I catch myself being musically irritated
by Janick's guitar sound. I don't know how the guy's got his gear
set up but it sounds real harsh, too harsh, and doesn't mix in well
with the overall sound of the other guys. It's just too damn raw, I
guess.....and when he goes to solo....EEOOOW! it hurts my fucking
ears. <g> I also notice that Dave seems to play a lot more freely
and off-the-cuff, which ain't always a bad thing, but I think he
actually played _better_ when Adrian was in da band.

That used to be my complain about Janick. I always thought Adrian brought
the best out of Dave. I've watched a couple of videos of concerts that have
Janick in them (I've never seen him play live, in person) and he seems to
sacrifice some quality guitar sound in favor of putting on a show through
showboating, like throwing the guitar around his back, and abusing the neck
at the end of songs. In my opinion, his sound meshing with the rest of the
band started happening by the time "The X Factor" came out, and seems to me
that he's found his place (soundwise) with "Virtual XI". I can accept
Janick's playing now, and appreciate the fact that he appears to be a team
player, and that he never, for better or for worse, went ahead and became
Adrian II. I believe I told you this before, but Janick's stage presence
and playing remind me a lot of Ritchie Blackmore.

To clarify my point, I think Janick fits in well enough on the albums
that he has played on but live is another story. He seems to only be
interested in putting as many (sloppy) notes into his solos as possible.
Adrian always came up with very memorable solos that fit the given song.
Janick's solos are all the same-fast and frantic.......not
Maidenish-well thoughout and well played.

It is that "polished" sound and feel that I think has been lost since
Adrian left Maiden. I'd much rather see Adrian just stand up there and
play than see Janick throwing his guitar and climbing the speaker
cabinets! To me, the music has always been the attraction, more than the
vocals. This is why I'd rather see Janick go.

Janick's got a lot of energy but I think he's a sloppy player. If
Steve's getting Bruce back, it wouldn't be a classic Maiden tour unless
Adrian Smith came back.

That may be because he's not that great a player and he's trying to
make up for it through showing off. He's a great guitarist, but I
don't like his sound or style. And _NOT_ because he's Janick and not
Adrian.

<shrug> I don't know....Blackmore? Ya think? Well, Blackmore
would've been an interesting addition to Maiden, eh? <G> Can you see
him and Harry going at it over control of the band? <chuckle> That'd
be a show right there!

Yeah, on album he isn't that bad and I can almost live with his sound,
but live is a completely different story. Shit, even Smilin' Davey
has changed his sound to be practically unrecognizable. Used to be,
hear those guitars...you _know_ it's Maiden. I think they gotta get
back to that.

Yep. Adrian was a perfectionist, IMO. Don't know if he considers
himself one, but his solos are usually nice and polished. They're not
boring because of that, they are _better_.

You couldn't be more correct!!!! I would much rather have Adrian come
back than Bruce (if I had the choice but obviously I'd love to see
Bruce back as well). At least if Adrian were back, we can enjoy the
"Maiden Sound" despite the vocalist. Janick is so horrible I wish he
would quit for the sake of Iron Maiden-- he just screws up the Maiden
Sound. If Bruce were to come back, I would hope that it would be on
the condition that Adrian comes back with him.

If it were just Bruce to come back and they keep Janick, it wouldn't
be good enough. Either all or nothing!

BRING BACK ADRIAN!

I 100% agree with everything you just wrote. Please Please! For the love
of God, get Janick (I can't play one good solo") Gears out of this band!
Peace PV

I agree! I think Janick has improved a lot since 92-93. Ritchie Blackmore thing
I don't comment! :-)

Jannicks playing has often reminded me of Yngwie Malmsteen, especially on
Yngwie's later stuff, like on his Magnum Opus album. Jannick trys to play
quite fast, like he is a Steve Vai clone, but it all sounds wrong in context
with the rest of the song. He butchers his OWN solos. Wasting Love has a
BRILLIANT solo on the FOTD album, but I have rarely seen Jannick play this
the same live. Maybe they pasy session musicians to do Jannick's stuff in
the studio.
If Jannick put some quality into his sound, and his fingers, he would be
magic.

Btw, many people think that Jannick is not "part of Maiden". I personally do
not like his playing, but he IS part of maiden. He has been for nine years.
That is good enough for me. He doesn't need replacing, just a good kick up
the arse.

Jannick makes a total prick of himself the minute he walks onto any stage. I
can't help but laugh when I see him do all that bullshit like prancing about
throwing his guitar in the air, and doing that footstomping dance he likes
to do. I laugh AT him.

Maybe at Donnington during Running Free, Adrian should have done one of
Jannicks trick and accidentally hit Jannick round the side of the head with
his guitar. Adrian may have been asked to rejoin!

Btw, was Donnington the only time where H has appeared as a third guitarist
during a song for Maiden?

If anyone has Jannicks e-mail, I know an excellent teacher who could teach
Jannick a thing or two. Maybe if Jannick had something more difficult to
play, he wouldn't spend his time pissing about.

Defilutely! I got into Maiden's _songs_, then I got into seeing them
live.

Well, as far as my Ritchie Blackmore comment, I don't think Janick sounds
like Blackmore, but they have rather similar approaches to how they play
their solos, and also showboat onstage.

I haven't seen Blackmore live in a long time. I did have some boot
videos from way back but don't have them anymore. I think Richie's
probably a better guitarist though.

For god's sake, I have seen this thread OVER and OVER again. Do you people
EVER get pissed off with saying this?
Hey, I hate Jannick's playing, because as a guitarist myself, I think he is
one hell of a sloppy bastard. And I don't like Blaze.
How do I solve my problem??? By NOT LISTENING TO TXF or VXI.

Bruce and Adrian belong where they are NOW, in a band which I can respect
without the embarassment of albums like TXF and VXI.
