Burn My Eyes? Kiss My Arse, more like!!
-tsh
I could not agree more. -with everything that you said!!
you are 100% correct in judgement! that band is a very big waste
i am glad that there is someone out there who cares enough about metal to
distinguish between what is real + what is fake. actually, just an immitation.
Not only with sepultura, pantera,+biohazucks - but Epidemic as well!
...and yes, they are getting huge support inthe U.S. the most support i think i
have ever seen. "Metal Maniacs" magazine, which i like alot, constantly raves
about them. in every recent issue there is at least 3 pictures of them + many
reviews and remarks of praise. this is sickening to me...but it is sometimes
funny. if you ever look at there pictures - you will laugh your ass off!
they look the biggest posers wearing metal shirts + metal gear, with "metal"
facial hair. they stand there like - "yeah, we're metal". yeah right!
... and i dontunderstand the time, money,+ attention being spent on them by
RoadRunner records. That label has so much signed talent already. WHY THIS
BULLSHIT?
...and radio airplay also! I think it is disgusting that this junk has gotten
this far. The joke should be over by now!
...please dont support this already fortunate band

I have to admit I don't really mind MH's music, but they certainly aren't
original. Most peoples criticisms that I've read I definately agree with.
I don't know though I still think it is an ok album. Hell, IMHO most death
and thrash and what have you is all pretty unoriginal!!!! That's not really
a slam against anything, just my observation. Well, I'm off!!!!
Oh, now I remember my original point!!!! I'm sick of MH saying that they
are trying to be original and against all this stuff and real groundbreaking
and all. Maybe they should just say "yeah, we rip off everyone who's
popular right now. That's how we write music!!!" Maybe they get some
honesty respect!
Whatever!!!!!
I agree that they sound like a lot of bands at once (Sepultura, Pantera....), but there
are some very good songs on the album - "Old", "Blood for Blood", "Block", "Death
Church" are about the best on the album.
Also I saw them live supporting Slayer at Wolverhampton, and they were very good - lots of energy & stuff.
Belive the hype!
Marcel
Yep.
I just saw Machine Head + Slayer in Paris last night, and my ears are
still ringing ...
If you don't like MH, just don't listen to their record. It's that simple :-)
>Belive the hype!
Don't give a sh*t about what the others say, and listen to what you like !!!

Someone mentioned Epidemic here saying they were lame and if I understand
this thread correctly, bandwagon jumpers. Well, I've been into Epidemic
for a few years now and can say that they are not bandwagon jumpers.
Granted I haven't heard the new one yet but comparing their demos to
their first album all I hear is a pretty good thrash act that just
underwent a little progression. Their songs on the LP that were on the
demos haven't lost anything. The demo that has "Three Witches" on it
came out in 1989 when Sepultura and Pantera were nothing special. Maybe
to the underground scene Sepultura were special with the release of
Schizophrenia way back when but a lot of people were discovering that
new band Metallica then. I will agree with one thing though. Machine
Head does suck and are just latching on to the newest trend.

Of course they're metal!!!!! Do you remember the band that Rob Flynn was
in before he formed Machine Head??? Remember VIO-LENCE???????? "World in
a World"? "Bodies on Bodies"? "Liquid Courage"? "Torture Tactics"?
The man deserves some respect and success after he and his band got fucked
over by their record companies (Mechanic for _Eternal Nightmare_ and Atlantic
for _Opressing the Masses_) They are a metal band. "Blood for Blood"
would fit on "Oppressing.." with no problem.

thats a good point. sorry- i forgot about VIO-LENCE
-but what i dont understand is - why does Machine Head sound fake to me when
Vio-Lence sounded so Real?? they were real good, but i dont think the same way
about Machine Head at all.

hmm...that is weird. I like shankle.
the history that vadim posted was a bit wrong. he claimed shankle's
name was michael, and karl kennedy ws supposed to be the first
drummer they had and he only lasted during 1980.
I know for a fact that shankle was named Dave, and he was on
Triumph of Steel (93 release)
karl logan I think is the name of the new guitarist..

Among lots of things that differ the two bands there are the fact that MH
now has released their FIRST album (not their fifth) and are therefore NEW
to almost everyone (that didn't know about VIO-LENCE)..
The Hype-thing then strikes them.. especially the british music-media
seem to have this HYPE-tag to hang onto every new and special band..
whether it'd be metal, indiepop(like fuckers like Suede and Oasis) or pop in
general (not metal included.. Arrrrrrrrrgh!)
The metal-genre is very sensitive to hype, and the disliking of bands
with big budgets on commercial and promotion in particular..
Part of being a fan of Heavy Metal (whatever kind of metal..) comes in
the feeling of listening to unique, almost obscure bands.. being
on the frontier of new, unknown bands (death-Metal especially)..
Not being like the kids playing in your neighbourhood that wears
Alcoholica T-shirts, Misfits-T-shirts etc.. (like we used to do except
for the T-shirts being Kiss and Led Zeppelin etc.)..
What most people don't understand is that Metal, is nowadays some
35-40 genres.. and that just because its based around the same
instrumental setting (vocals, guitars, bass and drums) it's NOT all
the same.. Hard Rock or Heavy Metal has been around for some 25 years
now.. Its growing and progressing in all sorts of directions..
It's so wide in its spectrum of varieties that the "mixing" of styles
within itself makes bands seem unique, based on old styles in new forms..
Machine Head has recieved loads of hype, and critics have actually not
been all on the same bandwagon.. In a few cases I have actually read reviews
that aren't praising them.. the release of Slayer's (their headlining band here
in Europe at the moment) 'Divine Intervention' sort of cut the critics
constant stream of comments of MH's 'Burn My Eyes'..
Someone pointed out Obituary's 'World Demise' as being far better and
having been completely neglected by the media because of MH..
Obituary is my (and lots of others) mind THE premier Death Metal Band.
Death Metal on the other hand is a genre that almost completely lacks the
the media's (major media) attention unless it's about some gruesome
murder-charge(like the case of Count Grishnakh), or some fan headbanging
himself to death (way to go..).
Obituary suffered from both these things, the MH'hype and the genre
their representing.. They've been around long enough sold enough records
to have a fair share of publicity, alright.. but where would they end up??
Would that lead to YET another flamewar here, and everywhere else you
might find metal-fans??
Machine Head's album is perhaps over-rated, but it is definitely not
bad either (IMHO), I fully agree in the 'Blood for Blood'-tune being
really cool, I have yet to catch them (and most of all Slayer) live
but from I have seen on Headbanger's Ball (another flamewar-subject)
in their coverage of the Slayer/MachineHead-tour in Dublin(or Belfast)
it certainly kicks ass live..
i.e i think it isn't Machine Head we can't stand - it's the Hype around
OUR music that bugs us....
