I am not building a robot - I am building a vehicle. But I happened
across this forum, and it seemed a good place to ask my question - so
please forgive me for being off topic.

Where in the UK can I buy 12 to 24V DC motors, please, up to about 740
watts? I understand there is a much used Bosch 1HP motor. Where can
one get one without paying too much? Are Sinclair C5 motors still
available? Could someone sell me one or two?

If I should be posting in another forum, or should be looking at a FAQ,
please could someone give me the appropriate references?

Regards, Phil.

Unfortunately Phil, the Bosch GPA750 is effectively only available
from Ellis Components http://www.ellis-components.co.uk/ and will cost
you the wrong side of £100 when you include VATand postage.

Parkside Railways (don't know the link) also has it but they can't get
the same discount from Bosch as Ellis do so will cost much more.
Parkside also has a wide variety of other traction motors, used for
garden railways, and transmission components too.

The going rate from them is £125 and they go like hot cakes.

There's no FAQ for this NG I'm afraid Phil, but I don't think anyone
will object to related questions like yours. These are forums for
electric vehicles but they seem to be exclusively for the US
bottomless pocket brigade 8-).

I would certainly take a look at http://www.bigcheeserobot.com/
They have some sealed can motors at 800W for £20 and less chance of bits
getting into the motor, the Bosch has some rather large cooling holes.
If it is a vehicle then they also do a Differential gearbox and axle
suitable for the above fro £10 geared to 17:1

Thank you for the information, all.

Today I ordered a Litton 1HP motor and axle from Big Cheese. Just
right for the job - my grandson will be delighted.

Regards, Phil Cross

Don't forget to let us know what you think
of the motor when you get it.

Try J.B. Marketing Services ( tel 01323 870 066 )
< john...@jbms.freeserve.co.uk >
Contact John Blake

He sells Kostov Motors, these are DC, 12, 24, and 48 volt, from 0.11 to 22
Kw.
Lots of stock sizes and they can be "customised" to your specification.

as an example the EC 0.8/2.4/30-22 looks useful, it's specification is, 4
brush ( good low speed torque ) 800 W ( 1.5 minuet rating ) 24 V reversible

He also sells KBBC DC/DC speed control cards for 12, 24, 36, and 48 v,
they look useful with 40 amp continuous 80 amp 15 second rating.

I don't know about these items, but I am happy with the service he has given
me with the 240 v AC / 180v DC controllers he supplies me with.

Regards.
