I understand that the series is cancelled and we've been told not to turn
up on Friday 29th.

It seems a technician got his foot damaged by a robot ?

Presume they will now review health & safety issues - lets hope it gets
resurrected.
We were ready to go !

Indeed. Things dragged on a bit as the Mentorn people spent saturday
sitting on their elbows, but they cleared thread 2 heat one by midday
sunday and started on the thread 1 backlog.

I wasn't complaining, it gave us chance to get the 'bot working. The
interference in the arena was dreadful though, we only had any vestige
of control in the Death Mewtal zone, and cowering behind it didn't
really cut it as a tactic. They turned off the ranks of angle grinders
round the arena in later heats after complaints.

The accident involved a robot going out of control and impaling a
technician through the foot, the sort of thing which is best avoided
anyway.

Finals day has been moved to Tuesday 26th.

Nope, just some elements have been postponed/delayed/cancelled etc. Info
on the official site and more to follow after post-production meetings
etc.

Hmmm. that might explain why our bot appeared to die for no
apparent reason (post mortem revealed no problems)

We went out Wednesday Morning.... when did it all happen? we
left about 3.30pm after hanging around.

I don't know much more than that. Wednesday afternoon seems most likely
seeing as you missed it.

The loss of one days filming seems to have given them an excuse to
cancel all the classes they aren't really interested in from a TV
point of view. No mention of compensation of any kind for the teams
that have spent lots of time and money on them.

The excuse that they can't extend the filming by 1 day seems only to
prove their incompetance at organising a major event, surely they
should have booked the studio for at least one extra day ?. Surely
with an event as complex as this a delay of some kind could have been
predicted ?.

If the bot went out of control due to radio interference then surely
Mentorn must take some of the blame. Last years contest was marred by
robots being jammed by noise from the set and they seem not to have
learnt anything from it, not even that motors in angle grinders need
suppression !.

Possibly not, they have to clear out to let the Spice Girls use it.

I can see that combining the two might make good TV though...

WHAT?!? No way! I mean, this year is the first time a robot has been entered
from Northern Ireland, and it's pretty kewl, nice green thing with a
mortis-type blade, it even got on the Northern Ireland news and all..

Don't start that one, they'll crucify you. Dublin in Southern Ireland.
Zulu nearly beat me up for hassling Jay for our pass badges, although he did
sign a bit of red fur for my wife.

Ooops. They were acting like old frinds in the hotel on friday night, I
assumed they knew each other.

What is an Irish robot doing in UK RobotWars?

Dublin. Ireland, yeah, but not Northern Ireland..!

I can't remember the name of it, but it might be "Weld-Or", it was made by a
welding company and cost £2000.

Well, there's no Irish Robot Wars, is there? :)

There's an unofficial Robot Wars Northern Ireland though, which is me and my
remote controlled toy car, vs a teddybear, but I closed it down after
another NI robot was made that cost £2000 to build (compared to my £20)...

Compensation? ha ha ha!

Just because you got a grudge match or Tag battle it doesn't mean they have
to let you on. (read the contract) also what about the hundred or so which
were not even granted that? - If anything you will be lucky to get your £10
membership fee back!

Sorry!
