The audition process was set out in an efficient production line flow, and
it did not take long to get to the front of the line, the spare time was
spent checking out the other bots and swilling down loads of Tea.
The variety of robots was quite astonishing, wheeled, tracked, and a walker,
all so very different, I can't remember seeing a wedgie bot, maybe people
are getting the idea that watching these trying to scratch each others
paintwork with 2" spikes is rather boring.
I saw one of the production team giving an onboard camera to one of the
entrants and also a pair of glasses that give a 'head up display' of what
the camera is seeing, I'msure he was into the show.
Most of the weapons were of the axe type (ala kilertron) or stabbers etc,
none of the weapons were allowed to be working during the driving test, (as
we've seen it done it type of thing rather than the safety aspect).
The inspection of our bot followed and the team were intrigued to see a
unique weapon and they actually asked to see it in operation, I don't think
they believed it would work.
Quick driving test, ball in the goal etc and onto the weapon test. We were
only allowed to use it at a low power setting but the result was still
impressive even for us.
A small stack of concrete blocks were the target ('were' being the operative
word!)
The robot moved very slowly and very quietly towards the blocks,. . . . . .
BANG,. . . . . bits of block everywhere, one block was thrown ~20ft across
to the ramp. It was funny to see someone sweeping up afterwards.
We left the audition quite pleased, but hoping like everyone else we get the
big invite to the filming. Good luck everyone.
We are now busy getting the web site together and hope to show a bit of
video of the weapon in action.

Nothing as vicious as that, a bot's paintwork might get damaged!.

In which case its not THAT spectacular. in fact, it'll probably stall on
contact with
anything heavier than a balsa wood robot.
