Did anyone hear about the accident during the filming of the current
series(III), or did they just tell me that as an excuse for not entering
my robot?

Lateral Thought - Superheavy weight entry series III

Yes, friends of mine worked on the show and told me that a robot's safety
mechanism failed and the robot ran into a security guard and stabbed him
right through the leg with a spike or spikes.(MATILDA?). The health and
safety inspectors started pulling their hair out when they heard of this

<Apocryphal>

As I heard it (And I wasn't there at the time) it was a contestent robot
which hit one of the stagehands. The problem was that the (deformed)
bodywork pressed down on the key of the emergency stop switch, making a
contact on a supposedly safe robot and bringing it into unexpected life.

checkout the www.robotwars.co.uk/ and the forum, there's lots of discussion
on this subject, you may have to do a search though.

There was a clue to prove the filming was put out of step when George (Chaos
II) said that most of the big names had gone out. How would he have known
that in heat 5 (or what ever it was) unless heats 2 to 8 were filmed after
heat 16 as they were due to health and safety closing the place down until
they had got things sorted out.
I am so pleased I had been moved from the first half to the last, as there
is no way I could have been able to afford to either pay for accommodation
or get the boat home for the three days I would have needed to wait.

Actually, I said that in the third round, all third rounds were filmed after
all 16 first+second rounds. It had nothing to do with the accident.

If the accident hadn't happened you would have probably been filmed in
order, n'est pas?

I went along to be an audience member on the day and was told the second set
was cancelled because, and I quote, "the blood and bits is all too
horifying" - but then they refused to tell us what had happened, and started
madly getting us to sign contracts about audience safety which we didn't for
the earlier filming - it was funny to watch them all run round panicking!

But seriously who ever it was which got hurt I hope they are okay now.
