On my way to church for our annual children's Christmas pageant, then home
for lunch, then to the parsonage for an open house, then I sing at the 6 pm
service.

Shopping was finished about two weeks ago.

Distribution of homemade biscotti to all three schools' staff, teachers, and
janitors complete. Ditto for mail carrier, neighbors, doctors, dentists,
and orthodontists. Will distribute to Christian Education staff and pastor
this morning.

Sunday School students receive their gifts this morning.

Any questions?

(looking forward to Mon - Friday, dwelling in the sense of Peace on Earth,
despite the frantic hectic world around me)

Shopping done. Most presents wrapped. Tree is gorgeous. House is
clean. Cupboard is nearly bare, though.

My kids live too far away to make it home for Christmas. I'll have
the webcam hooked up so that I can see the babies.

It's been an interesting few months. Looks like the health issues are
resolved, or at least, diagnosed and treated. Back to work this week
- after a couple of hours, it was as though I'd never been out at all.

Staffing is worse than ever. Patients are sicker than ever.

I got a "Baylor" position, which will start in January - I'll be
working every weekend, 12 hour shifts. Which will leave me Mon-Fri
free. I'm already enrolled in school for the next semester.

Whattabout you? You done?

I think they are all down at Cranston City Hall, setting up their own
personal versions of the meaning of the holidays. If I had the time to
cobble together a giant dollar sign I'd go down and join them.

Shopping is all done, gifts are all wrapped, although we may hit a sale or
two this week if the "dismal sales" reports from retailers are true. One
year we got such great buys two days before Christmas that we took several
more expensive, early purchase items back for refunds, saving us over $100
that year, mainly on winter jackets and clothing.

My Christmas shopping is done and we are waiting for my daughter and her
husband to arrive on Tuesday. Our tradition here in Illinois is to have
Christmas eve lunch under the big tree at Marshall-Fields in Chicago and
put our tree up afterwards. (The tree comes down on New Year's Day.
That's my job in which I get no help but am not interrupted either. In
return, I get to watch football all day.)

We also decide what we are going to do on Friday. There is an exhibit
called "Manet and the Sea" at the Art Institute of Chicago and one on
"Einstein" at the Field Museum. I vote for Einstein but I will probably
be outvoted. (I'm just trying to make you jealous.)

Oh, by the way... Northern Illinois does not have a lick of snow. Could
I ask you Rho Dylanders a big favor? Ship us out a couple of thousand
tons? My wife, who is from Wisconsin, desparately wants a white
Christmas.

Now a Monet exhibit, especially inclusive of that "Jardin" one of a path to
the door of his house under a hot day's shade...well, that would be enough
for xmas for me. I have bought my gifts for others and am unsatisfied with
their adequacy. No lists this year so I did the mall thing and bought a
nice watch, Opium, and gold jewelry for the wife and some "dad" gifts for my
kids to add to their mom's excesses....good kids though. No snow in
Chicago? Do you get lake effects snow there? I was visiting a national lab
for a few days there and nearly froze to death. Absolutely the coldest I
have ever been for a long period...colder than St Paul even!

HTML. Not everyone likes it in newsgroups. Those with old computers and
slow modems will complain. Same people who do not want pictures on
non-binary groups... even occasionally. [of course! It's wrong. I know
that!]

Hey! Me too.
I just got me a new Apple 20 inch flat panel display.
End of the year buying frenzy.

Makes the old CRTs look, well, faded and old.
An excellent investment in ones eyes.
Now, if I can get ten years out of it like I have the CRTs, I will be
blessed indeed.

I have been one (inch) uped. Well my P 133 died and I went out and I got me
a 3 gig P 4 processor and 160 gig HD and DVD and CD read and write drives
and lots of other bells and whistles etc. I can now use the digital camera
my wife bought me last xmas. No kidding still in the box since I had no USB
ports on the old box. Going to give it its first use this xmas. Amazing
box this compared to my old Gateway (which I paid $3900 for in 1995, but
after all, it had a full 16 megs of RAM!!!! and a full 1.6 gigs of HD ("wont
it go to waste???") and a huge 17 inch CRT monitor!!!!.

Hardly any snow left here to speak of, either, so I don't think that's going
to work. The bits I see are full of road dirt and sand....ick.

Shoulda got the new 64 bit AMD processor...

SEE?! YOU'RE ALREADY OBSOLETE!! BWAHAHAHAH!!

There should be a way of turning off all senses of what is "state of the
art" after you buy a new computer for at least a year, IMO.

Why not ansi art?

look at the manpage for screen and it's got all the escape codes for VT100
(the subset for IBM PCs is called "ansi graphics")

Then there's always TheDraw. That was *the* tool to do ansi animations
and colors. It's still around. Runs in DOS, it does.

That way, it's not binary and it's not html.

Congratulations! As a fellow tuition-payer, I imagine that was a great
present right there. Good luck with the shopping. I found a surprising
number of non-mall places to shop without the crowds. But since
I have done a lot of tracking studies on shoppers, I'm very good
at avoiding them. Tuesday is the peak grocery shopping day, so you
might have good luck shopping for gifts then. On the other hand, it's
senior discount day.

Laury- done, wrapped and ready for the first time ever three days early

Baylor is a weekends only 12 hour shift. It was a staffing concept
pioneered at Baylor Hospital - it helps to ensure that the most
difficult slots to staff are covered.

For me, it's a win/win.

My shopping was done a month ago. I still want to bake some wine
biscuits and I have to make gravy for Christmas Eve. But that I can do
tomorrow. I'm trying to come down with a cold and so is my husband, so
I'm not going to push myself. The house will be out of order until we
get the den rearranged and that will take a little bit of moving of
furniture at the time.

That's the ONLY kind of gravy. Everything else has qualifiers:
"chicken gravy, brown gravy," etc. :-D

Well, Linda... perhaps inspired by all this recent talk of gravy,
yesterday I made meatballs and gravy for our Christmas Eve dinner. I
simmered them all day in the crockpot (don't know why I never thought of
that before) and they came out really really good. We had them with
fusilli, tossed salad, and baguette/butter.

A new Christmas Eve tradition is born. :-)

That's how I've been doing it for years, though not usually for
Christmas eve. That night has gone through many re-inventions.
It started as a traditional dinner with the fishes, but that is a lot
of work and money.

About three years ago I realized that the appetizers and party
food were what people enjoyed best. Why not have a party with
nothing but party food? So that's what I've been doing. This year
over 40 showed up. I ran out of party food and was left with about
100,000 calories worth of desserts instead. How totally unfair.
Today my husband and I drove around distributing desserts to
everyone we could think of who might like one or could use
some. Only about 10,000 calories left, enough for my son's
breakfast tomorrow morning, I think.

Hee hee. I have 7 tins of my own homemade cookies still left after giving
trays and tins of them to various friends and relatives... half of my
homemade apple pie from yesterday's dinner... plus homemade cookies given
to us by my stepdaughter, and various boxes of chocolates, cheeses,
crackers, nuts, given as gifts by colleagues and friends. Help! I need to
restart my lowcarb program. Sigh -- maybe tomorrow.
