Another thing that you hear said is that Germany was not a threat to the
USA- well, even if they weren't- which is arguable at least- why should that
stop the USA from helping the many countries and peoples which were falling
into malevolent German hands?It would have been wrong to come to any kind
of treaty which allowed Germany to get away with what it was doing-proof of
that is the fact the USSR did make a treaty with them. If they are on
Stalin's side, there is probably something rotten going on. I understand
that USA was also on Stalin's side, and THAT was rotten too, but it was
just temporary, as a matter of having a common enemy, and the minute that
enemy was gone, the USA fell into it's natural relationship that it
shouldhave with any totalitarian nation such as USSR, and that relationship
was enmity. As to the actual question of whether Germany was a threat to
USA, well, maybe not at that time, but if allowed to take over Europe,
they certainly would have become a nuclear threat to the USA, and, if they
were allowed to conquer Britain, they would probably have gotten a Navy
together, and cam looking to join Canada back into the British Empire,
which would mean, Germany occupying part of North America. They were our
enemies, and they got much better treatment than they deserved or could have

that would also depend on what the user could afford; I don't recall modems
being cheap at that time; IIRC I paid a couple hundred dollars for a 2400GVC
modem before 1990. But I'm not about to take a poll of 80's internet
subscribers for you.

I paid about $775 for my HSTs - my first Trailblazer came in at just
under $1200.
I used the HSTs and the Telebit to bring the Internet to Nanaimo, then
delivered email and news to DOS systems running Waffle-DOS to talk to
my SCO XENIX machine... back when the Internet didn't exist,
