Purification of Any Object

To purify any object take a small mirror and clean and polish it. Take a
brush and red watercolor paint and begin to draw a spiral counterclockwise
starting at the top begining on the outside and work your way toward the
center point ending slightly right.

Place the object to be purified within a crescent of "Kami Gohei".

How to construct the gohei.
http://www.nihonbunka.com/shinto/shime.htm

Construct the Kami Gohei out of white unmarked paper and then attach the
strips to a white string that spans the circumference of the object outward
at least an inch. There should be three paper strips all fanning outward
from the object pointing to the cardinal directions of North, West, and
South.

The opening should face you holding the mirror. You are sitting in the East
the nexus and final resting place of the counter clockwise motion. It is the
gate where negative forces will exit from the object into the mirror which
is visualized as a door. The negative forces travel through the mirror
counterclockwise following the spiral symbolizing the blood and misfortune
of the world and is trapped in the mirror. The negative forces may be sealed
inside the mirror by running clean water over it and removing the watercolor
paint. But don't break the mirror or the spell is broken.

* if you use candles keep them away from the paper of course and floor
candle bases and shields are recommended. A good technique is to place one
red candle to the North and one white candle to the South of the object to
be purified.

The ritual.
First bathe yourself and take a hot bath if you can. Dress in all white. sit
in the East facing the object. Hold the mirror to the object so that it's
image is reflected in the mirror. Visualize a black cloud coming out of the
object and making a spiral path toward the mirror. See the mirror soak up
the smoke in a counter clockwise motion. When consumed place the mirror face
down on the ground sealing the negative forces. With your hands free clap
once loudly and rest in the prayer gesture. This symbolizes spiritual gates
being closed. You may then proceed to wash the mirror. The object is now
purified.

If possible wrap the object in white silk and wait for the light of the next
full moon. Place the object before the moonlight and it will shield the
object from further contamination.

This is just an outline of a technique in which there are many small details
that strengthen this spell. It is up to you to tailor it and strengthen it.

Interesting, thanks ren. I like the use of the spiral.

I am not an authority on Shinto rituals, I am just in the process of
translating some of them. From what I know about katanas and Shinto, the
purification process takes place during the creation of the katana.

The sword is dedicated to the Goddess Amaterasu and I believe the Shinto
priest or priestess invokes the Kami or Gods into the sword.

I recommend finding a Shinto priest or priestess in your area if there is
one to have it done.

Shinto is so similar to Wicca and other Pagan magickal traditions. You might
want to try to research a katana purification ritual online to see if you
and others can perform it yourselves.

The sword is as to the athame. It is one of the sacred tools of Shinto.
Purification of the athame rituals would be similar.

Well! Let's keep that a secret.
