hes right, religion is a an attempt by those in power in the dark ages
to explain to the people they ruled how the world works and to breed
hatred for other cultures during times of war. it has lasted this long
simply because people are stubborn and refuse to accept change. science
is also a religion, but the difference is that scientists know that what
they beleive is probably not right and they are always trying to
disprove their own beliefs. religious zealots contend that they are
right and they are not willing to accept the fact that the world has
changed and the need for simple consise explanations has long since
passed.

religion dates back as far as humans were able to draw on walls, probably
even farther. Yes, religion has been used by some leaders to get their
people to hate other people, but it also has been used to bring peoples
together.

Okay, then why do Bible Thumpers think that everything in the Bible is true
and everything in science is lies?
How exactly do we know that everything in the Bible is true? We weren't
around when it was written! It could be religous gossip for all we know and
if God created science for solutions to some problems, then why is it
consitered evil by some people?
Think about it.
I think even God knows how to exaggerate.

The answer I've been given by bible thumpers is that because some things
(there was this guy named Jesus who was the son of a carpenter named Joseph)
then all things in the Bible must be true.
I tell that means that George Washington *did* cut down a cherry tree then,
because there was a book that said so.

But, because some of the Bible is supported by historical and/or
archeological evidence they think it's all true.
There is evidence for a historical Jesus, but IMHO that doesn't mean that
Genesis is an accurate account.

well, ironically... hell on earth. Hats off to the writers of the bible
though with the stuff about if you need proof in god to believe then you're
a sinner, and that those who doubt the bible are sent by the devil. they
covered everything perfectly, not unlike our current day matt groening.
