Although Scientology was aware of Hanks' predatory activities, he is
apparently still a member, according to his cult-sponsored web site:
http://scientologist.myhomepage.org/wallyhanks/myself.htm
And he's still working with children, operating a facility called the

helping the world of tomorrow."

Interview with a Former Student from the Hanks School
Some information has been abridged, indicated by [brackets], to
protect this person's privacy, as they are not yet ready to risk
publicly taking on the Scientology cult.
Q: What's your story?
A: I'm another ex-ranch student. Except I was at the Hanks ranch in
Palmdale for 2 years. I'd be happy to share any info with you.
Q: When were you there?
A: [Early 90s]
Q: How old were you at the time?
A: 13 when I got in, 15 when I left.
Q: Why were you sent there, and by whom?
A: I was sent there by my stepdad because I got kicked out of [another
Scientology school] for smoking.
Q: What were the staff and other students like?
A: Some of the students were seriously nuts, violent, others were just
fuckups like me. A lot of the students were really ok, they just
had lazy, rich Co$ parents who wouldn't want to deal with the kids'
problems. The staff were fuckups as well. One of the staff members
brought his entire family up to live/work on the ranch because his
parents were homeless downstats. Others were outright incompetent.
Q: What kind of education did you receive there?
A: HAH!! Education, as if. For the first year I got about an hour a
day, practiced my cursive, read LRH books, minimal Delphian
materials. After the first year, I had completed my 'education'
program.
Q: Did any notable incidents, good or bad, occur while you were there?
A: Wally beat the shit out of me once for running his horse too hard.
We had another whacked out vietnam vet who was clearly psychotic
stay there for a few months, living in a tent out in the back of
the property. On a camping/hunting trip to the Indian mines he
completely lost his mind, took all his clothes off, grabbed a
couple guns and took off into the desert. We found him a couple
days later.
Kids torturing animals. Older kids making younger kids perform
homosexual acts, on them. I'm sure there is tons more, but I'd have
to sit and think about it.
Q: Why did you leave?
A: I 'graduated'. In reality I think my stepdad was sick of forking over
$2000 a month.
Q: How old are you now, and what are you doing?
A: [Late twenties] now. I'm currently living [outside the US] working
as [management] in a [high tech] company. I was very fortunate to
have gotten [a computer] when I was [very young], programming by [a
young age]. I really feel sorry for other childeren of Scientology
who were deprived of education and didn't have any skills to fall
back on in the real world.
Q: You also need to decide how much anonymity you want. I can use your
name, or not use it, as you prefer. I can leave out some info (like
the exact dates you were at the ranch) if you are concerned about
remaining anonymous. It's up to you.
A: I would like to remain very anonymous for the time being. I haven't
decided if I want to declare myself an enemy of the church yet. So
no name, and no dates. There were enough people at the ranch that
details of experiences wouldn't lead to me.

I'm learning that there are lots of Scientology victimes lurking on
ARS. Slowly, the truth is coming out. More information about
Scientology schools can be found on Tilman Hausherr's web site
(search for "Mace"):
http://home.snafu.de/tilman/prolinks/
Questions for any of the staffers or ex-students can be sent to me or
posted to this thread on alt.religion.scientology. No wonder
Scientology hates the Internet.

Gee thanks, Prof. Dave. This is great stuff.
I'm glad to see this young person has survived and thrived in spite of
the "ranch" and COS.
Questions:
1. Were both parents Scientologists?
2. Did both parents think it was a good idea to send you to the
"ranch"?
3. What is their opinion of the "ranch" now?
4. Was this "ranch" treatment, education, whatever....tax deductible?

The website no longer exists. (I mentioned this on May 15th in another
thread). I wonder if it was removed because scientology has a special
priority for David Touretzky postings - my own website has linked to the
two abuse reports for years, and also linked to Wally Hanks'
"individual" page as a "test" whether he is still in good standing.

The Mace-Kingsley Ranch apparently morphed into the Mace-Kingsley Family
Center. (I don't know if that's been mentioned in this thread. Also, the
ClubTheta listings could be stale.)

Ron of that ilk.
Good idea. I don't know if they have people to get rid of old timers having
left or no longer being in Good standing, possibly so.
Even Impact patrons lists are probably not up-to-date.

Interestingly the Mace Kingsley "ranch" has also death on its hands.
A young swiss guy came back after one year in the ranch, and as soon he he
felt menaced of having to go back at that nightmarish location, or anywhere
else in scientology, he throw himself from a Bridge (not Hubbard's ), to
commit suicide.
There, he said he was beaten (boxed on his face) by his auditor (when he
menaced to go to the police after having been sent to "ethics" (sort of Mace
Kinglsey RPF, working lots).
But he fell on another person, a Tamoul, who was killed.
The young suicidal guy was sent for psychiatric treatments (he had already
had some light ones before scientology) and was discharged of any
responsability by justice.
I won't give his name for the peace of his parents. His father paid around
150000 dollars for him and his mother, half for one year in Mace Kinglsey,
plus the cost of a trailer where he slept in, instead of in the dormitory.

They are in operation, however, they're not a school but a "field auditing
practice" specialized in kids. And they say it is a really large group.
