In late June, both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees passed their versions of
the FY2004 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill. This bill
provides funding for a wide variety of programs, including mentoring and other youth
development programs. Our goal is $100 million for Mentoring Programs (formerly known as
Mentoring for Success and funded at $17.5 million in FY2003) and $50 million for Mentoring
for Children of Prisoners (funded at $10 million in FY2003), as requested in the
President's budget.

October 17-20th, 2002.

We will be having an Arts Festival as well as a fundraiser for a
Literacy group (they tutor people on how to learn practically
anything. From kids to adults, even homeless - absolutely free, see
www.helplearn.org).

There will also be awards and we are accepting NOMINATIONS for artists
that you believe have helped improve their communities. Get your
nominations in now if you know an artist who deserves the public
recognition!

There will be art displays, live sculpting and painting. Drawing
classes, an Improvisation workshop, a Goals and Careers seminar, Vocal
workshop and tons of activities for artists, those longing to becomem
artists, art admirers, families and children - you name it! There will
be music of all sorts, poets, etc. An performance showcase of all
talents, a play about the Mission of The Artist. All this will be
happening in a garden setting. You don't want to miss an aesthetic
event for a good cause!

If you would like to take part by displaying art, teaching a workshop,
playing music, etc. contact us ASAP.

Spread the word - hope to see you there!
