ARS is dying. It was never a decent and truthful newsgroup and doesn't deserve grieving. The only interesting postings left in this group are from those who are critical of p$ychiatry and once in a while a posting of a Scientologist trying to get some sense into the hate mongers....

The Anonymous gang appeared with its unbelievable arrogance. Many of
us Scientologists studied Scientology for DECADES. We tried out
anything in real life. We can differentiate what was indeed written by
L. Ron Hubbard or added by others. We experienced personal miracles by
doing so.
And then there are these Anonymous youngsters who were radioed by the
German secret service to attack the religion Scientology despite (or
particularly for this reason) they are CLUELESS about its religious
depths.
They will be deeply ashamed in near future of what they have done and
that they allowed the German secret service to use them against a
basically good religion. One day, others will want to know who
participated in the anonymous and extremists hatred against L. Ron
Hubbard and Scientologists as the Nazis against the Jews.
They will deny it and hope that nobody ever will remove the masks with
high tech devices to see who hides underneath to identify them -
because they will be so ashamed...

I am not desperate for ARS to die. I post here since Nov. 2002. It was
never a good place but there was a lot more traffic than now. Despite
anonymous, it is really going down.

I think the fact that now exist other means and other fora may be part of
the explanation. Am not sure why people like web-based forums but apparently
many do. Maybe one reason is that it is more accessible to the public at
large. They have learned to surf the web, and then they click on "forum" et
voila... Finding a usenet forum nowadays requires a bit more knowledge (OK
you do have Google group but it sucks), plus they don't have these fancy
graphic stuff so it may not be as fun.
Therefore I would recon the new meat are going to these web-based forums,
and the old meat go there too cause that's where the chicks are, so to
speak.
But then, that would also be just one of the possible reasons. There may be
OG disaffection for the subject as well, or people getting tired of it.
Didn't I just read your good friend Tilman say just that?
Plus there isn't that much to discuss anymore. Most of it are on web sites
and on Wikipedia. Discussions take place on newbies boards (OCMB) or anons
board (sort of newbies too) - and don't forget comments that are now
everywhere on blogs and even news pages.
So the geography is very different than it used to be and it's hard to
compare. There may be a brain drain phenomenon as well, though.
