Post subject: A=A (or why Scientologists support the movie SERENITY)

Got this email from a Scientologist.
Reminds me of A=A as used in Dianetics.

New sci - fi movie has anti- psych theme - support art that is anti-
psych

Hi, All psych busters and good film lovers please foward this to friends
and family and encourage them to support this film this W/E!!

SERENITY is a new sci fi film now playing in theatres.

This film is really well made and has it all - action ( sword fights,
space battles the whole nine yards) - romance - lots of funny humor -
psychic abilities - great dialogue and story and on top of that it has
an anti -psych theme. This is a real kick in the teeth for the psychs
after all the hits they are taking and now a movie comes out with
another punch - it should be supported so please tell all your friends
including non- church members to see it.
This film deserves to be seen by lots of people and the timing of it's
message is perfect!

ABOUT MYSELF

Hello, my name is Rob Hoover, and here is a little bit about
myself:      I had a birthday recently.

I am at an age - 46 - where you can look back at things,
because you have lived a bit.

I looked back at my high school years. During those years
I was going through some difficulties and began to take an interest in
spiritual things. Most of my friends were still into drugs. I had to let
some of them go in order to gain my freedom. It was unfortunate that so
many at that time bought the idea that you could buy freedom or
enlightenment through the use of drugs.

Around that time I got a hold of Hesse's "Siddartha".
This talked about the life of an Indian boy at the time when Buddha
lived. It had a profound effect on me. I saw that there were higher
states of existence and that, if a person were to attain them, there
would be a positive effect on the world around the person. And this
could be done through spiritual means - without the use of drugs!
Although I had been raised a Catholic, I really did not
have much of an interest in this. I had practically no understanding of
it. (Years later, through my study of Scientology, I have come to an
understanding of it as well as other religious beliefs. Now I appreciate
them more than I ever did.)

I studied many different things; Yoga and mediation for
instance. I was getting results from these practices, but not as much as
I had wished. I ran into a Scientologist. She told me lots about
Scientology. I told her about my difficulties. She recommended that I
take a course in communication. I was pretty reluctant to do that, but
it was pretty evident that she could communicate very well. The only
other data that I had about Scientology was a news report that gave a
very negative impression.

I decided to make my own decision on the subject, based
only on my own judgement, rather than the sensationalized data of some
news program. I took the course and it was a lot of fun. I improved my
ability to communicate to others. The media was way-wrong: laughably so.
I have been involved with Scientology for years - so much for the
"news"!

I was born in Hanford, a small town near Bakersfield,
California. I have an older brother, a younger sister, two grown
children, three nieces and a nephew. Both of my parents are still
living. I grew up in Southern California - Gardena, Torrance and Hermosa
Beach.

I work as a finish carpenter installing custom cabinets,
doors and windows. I also handle other aspects of carpentry. Many of my
customers are in the entertainment industry. As an example, I worked on
Cher's home in Malibu. She'd often sit on her porch and catch some rays
while we worked.

Seems like someone's always got an Oscar (they are
really heavy, by the way. I know because I pick them up at every
opportunity!) or several Emmys up on the mantle piece gathering dust.
This is exciting for me as I am a writer as well and am currently
working on several screenplays. I have gotten a film production company
interested in one of my stories. My first visit to one of the major film
studios to pitch one of my stories was a real thrill. I also watch a lot
of the new films when they come out. (After all, this is Hollywood!)
I have always been interested in the Arts and this year
a friend and I started up a life drawing workshop for local artists. We
meet each week in a downtown Hollywood studio. People of various levels
of skill attend the class and everyone has a good time. I'm really happy
with it as my drawing has improved dramatically. I also do sculpture as
well.

My favorite artists are Rodin for sculpture and Matisse
for drawing and painting.

      L. Ron Hubbard has really been an inspiration for me as
a writer and as an artist.

Almost all my friends are artists, inventors, people in
the film industry or surfers! We are a wild bunch, but I can't think of
a better way to travel life: riding alongside dreamers. Speaking of
surfing, I started surfing in the mid-60's in Hermosa Beach, California.
One of my first jobs was working at Greg Noll Surfboards in Hermosa
Beach. Greg Noll is credited with riding one of the world's largest
waves during that time period. Riding waves is one of the best and most
fun ways to stay in touch with nature - I still do it as often as I can.
Surfing is a lot like Scientology in that both of them can put you in a
better state of mind! I know a lot of surfers here in California and in
Hawaii who use Scientology to bring a spiritual balance to their lives.
A number of us are involved in local Ocean Environmental groups. I am a
volunteer for groups like the Surf-rider Foundation and Heal the Bay. We
pick trash off the beaches and watch over hot spots such as storm drains
that empty into the ocean. Last summer I was the In Charge for Malibu
Surf-rider Beach (remember the movie, "Gidget"?) during California
Coastal Clean-Up Day. We had over 200 people out there and ours was one
of the most productive beach clean-ups. Our Scientology churches here in
Los Angeles have been gaining quite a reputation for their hard work and
support of groups such as these. Well, I guess that about wraps it up
for now. How is your life?

MY SUCCESS IN SCIENTOLOGY

Without Scientology, my life would have been much more
complicated than it has been. There have been so many moments when I
have been able to succeed at what I was trying to do because I knew
something about life and how to handle some of the difficult situations
that we all encounter. Sometimes it's the simple things like when I was
picking up a pay check once and the person was drunk and in a terrible
mood. Using a simple Scientology technique I was able to calm him down
without saying or doing anything until finally he was practically
purring like a kitten.

Another time there was this dead-drunk fellow lying in
the middle of the road. He couldn't even stand on his own legs and
didn't know where he was. Using another technique I had learned from
Scientology I was able to sober him up. This took about 15 minutes. He
thanked me, told me his name and went home.

Once a co-worker smashed his hand with a hammer and I
was able to reduce his pain quite significantly in a matter of minutes.

My son, who had been terrified after an earthquake was
calmed down by a Scientology method and was soon laughing about the
whole thing.

Once when things were not going quite so well
financially, I pulled out a book by Ron and the information in it
provided me with a way of improving my situation. I put it to use and
the next day I got a high paying construction job.

I have learned how to make people around me more calm
without saying or doing anything. I have learned how to regain my mental
composure under very stressful situations. I no longer need drugs or
alcohol to calm myself down. I can relax using Scientology. My life has,
by no means, been a cake walk. In fact, there has been some real rough
moments. However, having Scientology is a lot like having Michael Jordan
on your basketball team - you have CONFIDENCE THAT THINGS WILL GO RIGHT!
That confidence makes the game of life a lot more enjoyable.

Another ignorant scientologist.

Space Opera like this is not fiction. Ron said so. It is memories of events
from long ago. Long ago the Tech was in universal use and evil psych stuff
was banned, so of course you won't find anything nice about psychiatry in
SF, unless it's deliberately written by suppressive agents of the
international conspiracy trying to destroy the Scientology religion.

Anti-psych? Only if watched by a little hamster-wheel mind that likes to
label any control freaks using drugs automatically as the eevil "psychs" and
commit the logical fallacy that all psychological professionals are
therefore control-freaks using drugs. (While ignoring that $cientology is
itself an organization of control-freaks.)

The Alliance is an organization of control-freaks that loses a battle when
some of its secrets are broadcast. *ahem*

"You Can't Stop the Signal." sounds more like an ARSCC [wdne] saying than
CoS's, somehow.

... I've just had another reason to see $cn crumble added to my
already large list I got. I love Firefly *and* Serenity, they both
are superb pieces of SF IMHO. Yes, people should go out in
droves and see it multiple times. Convince Fox to make a second
season of Firefly. It's what it deserves.

But to call it anti-psych? WTF kind of drugs are these idiots on
and where can I get some? That's seriously twisting poor River's
plight into something a long, long way from what it is.
