Sounds like a copyright violation to me. After all, you sold your
artwork, and you sold the real thing, not one of these "limited edition"
copies.

I would like to take this opportunity to point out that "Naked Chicks
and Buffalo" would make a great name for a rock band.

Well done, Nik. Would you consider putting the wonderful "Nut in the Hat"
picture on T-shirts and making them available? I think that this one would
sell even better.

Weird... if this is true, it would also mean that I am not allowed to
scan and web artwork that I have bought from an artist :-(

True, but you can ask permission to do so.
Speaking of which...
Mr Artist, may I have permission to use a copy of that on my
Scientology WWW site? If not, I'll remove it. Sorry about not asking
first.

Only if *you* specifically requested the work be done.

This is good. It means I own some artwork on the web.

The sale of a piece of original artwork never grants copyright to the purchaser
except in the case of work-made-for-hire or commissioned works where such rights
are explicitly transferred by contract.
Otherwise all rights always inhere in the artist.
ptsc
You know not of what you speak.
When an artist sells a painting, the artist still owns the rights to
the image. That is, I can sell the original to a gallery. If they run
off copies and start selling them, they are ripping me off. UNLESS, that
is, I sign a contract signing over ALL RIGHTS. This is like how a writer
loans a publication his story for one publishing run UNLESS he or she
signs a contract giving away ALL RIGHTS
Besides, the point is moot. I have the permission of the person who
bought the original painting to go ahead and sell other stuff featuring
the same image.
Now that that's cleared up and you feel all reassured, go here...
http://www.cafepress.com/nikart
...and buy like crazy.

Well, I'm prepared to be "Buffalo" if someone wants to supply the
