This book, by Peter F. Gillham, is one of the books that was banned from
Scientology bookstores. That is, for many years, this book and other books
by Scientologists were sold in Scn bookstores, but shortly after Hubbard
died, Miscavige banned the stocking and sale of all such books. (Thanks
for posting that order, Warrior!)
Incidentally, according to that order, TILII and other banned books lacked
issue authority. However, this book says, right on the copyright page,
under the copyright info, "Permission for Publication Granted by Issue
Authority, Flag." I'm sure issue authority could have been withdrawn, but
it looks like Gillham DID have it at one time.
The copy I have is Copyright 1972 - BY L. RON HUBBARD!
The book is dedicated to "Peter, Terri and Janis Gillham." I'm assuming,
then, that the author's son was Peter Jr. Would that be the person listed
in the official Enemies List? -
GILLHAM, DOREEN SMITH
GILLHAM, PETER JR.
If so, anyone know why he was declared? Anyone know who Doreen is and why
she was declared? Anyone know if Peter Sr. is still in?
Since this book is not Source, there's probably not much point in quoting
any of it here on a.r.s., but if anyone has any questions about its
contents, please feel free to ask me here or in email.
One interesting aside on the subject of Clears and perfect memory: On the
title page, Peter Gillham indicates that he's OT VII Class VIII. However,
in the Conclusion on p. 76, he says, "L. Ron Hubbard made a statement
about perfection which has helped me considerably over the years since I
first read it. ... I do not recall the exact words, but I will duplicate
the meaning as follows:" -
Despite his perfect memory, he couldn't remember a Hubbard quote.
Apparently, he couldn't be bothered to look it up, either.
By the way, if you're interested in used books - tech or anything else - I
encourage you to check out Bibliofind (www.bibliofind.com). Bibliofind
lets you search the inventory of lots of different used book sellers
around the world. For example, you can find various tech and admin volumes
for $15-20 each. (The local bookstore where I found the Gillham book had a
few admins and all the tech, but wanted $40+ per volume.)

Peter Gillham was still in through 1995, living next to my Scieno friend (a
former CIA operative) who still owned an UZI!
Peter ran the vitamin store named after him for several years. Don't know
anything after I became evil and left in 1995. :0)

You're very welcome, Kristi!
Peter used to have a Scientology mission in Arizona, in Phoenix, if I
recall correctly. At one time, he was married to Yvonne. Yvonne later
married Heber Jentzsch, the current President of CSI. Yvonne was the
Commanding Officer (the Sea Org title given to the Executive Director)
of Celebrity Center Los Angeles for a few years during the early to mid-
70s.

Yes, he most certainly did have "IA" (Issue Authority) from The Church
[sic] of Scientology of California, which included Flag, for many years.
While I was staff at ASHO, I personally wrote many, many checks off of
the HCO Book Account. It was my job as the Director of Disbursements and
later as Treasury Secretary [and Dir Disbursements HFA ("held from above")]
to prepare *all* checks for signing. As Treasury Secretary, I also signed
thousands of checks since I was a signatory on *all* org accounts including:
1. Main Account (used for org expenses, staff pay & bonuses, promotional
expenses, etc.),
2. HCO Book Account (used to pay booksales bonuses, and to purchase books,
tapes, meters, insignias, course packs, charts, scales, OCA testing materials,
book promo, "Auditor Magazine" printing & mailing costs, etc.),
3. FSM Account (used to pay FSM Commissions),
4. SCA Account ( used for payments of rebates, affectionately called "Service
Completion Awards", or "SCA"),
5. Org Reserve Account (mainly used to build *supposedly* "untouchable
reserves", but in actuality a *transfer* or "flow" account used to funnel
money overseas to the Kreditenbank in Luxembourg where Church [sic] of
Scientology of California maintained a "Reserve Account #2"),
6. CVB ("Claims Verification Board") Account (used for refund/repayment claims
payments).
I was not a signatory on FBO Accounts or GO Accounts, although at various
times I used to participate in doing bank reconciliations, financial audits
and reports on those accounts. I also did prepare checks for the GO Main
Account, so I was privy to all sorts of information.
Anyway, with regards to the HCO Book Account, for 6 years I personally
prepared checks for book orders, and/or I signed the checks. As such I recall
instances of Scientology having placed many orders for purchase of books
written by Peter Gillham, Ruth Minshull and others. We used to purchase
Ruth Minshull's books from Scientology Ann Arbor (Michigan). All books that
we purchased had Issue Authority at the time we purchased them, otherwise
there is no way we would have been allowed to purchase them with HCO Book
Account funds.

It is common to find that books and other materials written by others,
or co-authored by others "assisting" Hubbard, have "Copyright L Ron Hubbard"
on them.

Yes. I'm pretty certain it is Peter Sr's son. I'd bet Jana could verify.
She knew/knows Peter Sr.

Peter Gillham Sr. is still in Scientology. He'll probably never leave,
since he has quite a successful business which sells lots of vitamins
and health foods to other Scientologists. If he were to be declared an
"enemy", it would have a catastrophic effect on his financial welfare.
He still operates Peter Gillham's Nutritional Center at 4867 Fountain
Avenue in Hollywood. His store is very close to the Cedars Complex, just
1/2 a block west of Catalina Avenue.

Hubbard's claim that "Clears" have perfect recall is obviously wrong.

I thought a few good titles went by the wayside because of this. I
particularly liked some of Ruth Minchell's (sp?) work. "How to choose
your people" and "When in doubt, communicate" were good ones.

I don't recall exactly. Financial irregularities seems to come to
mind. Don't quote me on that though.
Peter Sr is still in and still doing vitamins.
