Currently, Scientologist David Carradine features prominently in Kill Bill
Volume 2, as Bill. (While it's named after him, Volume 1 has very little
Carradine.) The role could practically have been written for Carradine, in
either case, but as with Travolta, it is a quirky choice of an otherwise
unbankable actor, who still does excellently due to being cast exquisitely to
type.
Additionally, look at the soundtrack. Look, it's Isaac Hayes!
("Run Fay Run").
# Uomini duri (1974)
... aka Durs, Les (1974) (France)
... aka Three Tough Guys (1974)
... aka Tough Guys (1974)
# Truck Turner (1974)
... aka Black Bullet (1974)
This is also entirely consistent with Tarantino's general obsession with cheesy
70s blaxploitation films and additionally, with black musicians of the same
period (displayed to great effect in Jackie Brown). Apparently, the public
appreciates Tarantino's quirky yet refined musical taste, since the soundtrack
album for Vol. 1 hit #20 on the Billboard charts, #1 in Soundtracks, went gold,
and was nominated for a Grammy.
I don't see anything else more obvious, and this isn't anything but a couple
interesting but tenuous connections.
(Incidentally, if you saw Kill Bill Volume 1 and didn't like it, it is entirely
possible you'll like Volume 2, because it is a very different movie than 1.)
David Carradine is a clam? I've never heard that before.

I assumed from the fact that there is barely an issue of Celebrity without
a picture of him that he was. He certainly doesn't seem to mind the
appearance of it. I don't find any completions on him.
Is Sienna Carradine related?

If Carradine was a bona fide card carrying clam, the crazy cult wouldn't
hesitate to loudly and proudly tout him as such in as conspicuously public a
fashion as possible.
This they haven't done. At least to the best of my knowledge.

Look at Beck, though. Maybe he isn't a Scientologist, but appearing in every
other issue of Celebrity magazine and marrying Marissa Ribisi certainly seems to
point in that direction.

Dear Scientology Friends,
Just a reminder of how important it is to fill the Pavilion with a lot of
Scientologist for David¹s event please read on.
We currently have over 150 names written in stone of non-Scientology
public confirmed for the event non-Scientology celebs, David¹s entourage,
family and fans. The result of a keyed-out audience will result in many
stats for the C of S, CC Int. such as: Good Will, Great PR and reaches for
the Bridge not to mention a safe place for more performances by other
non-Scientology celebrities which will drive in more raw public.
So again, here is the data:
Wed, Dec 19 200l at 7:30 P M at Celebrity Centre International, David
Carradine will perform his own compositions backed by his band The Cosmic
Rescue Team. David of course is widely known as the star of the hit TV
Series Kung Fu. He has also appeared in over 100 feature films and
innumerable T V shows. The truth is that David's first artistic love is
music. David Carradine is a multi instrumental performer, playing piano,
guitar, flute, sax, drums, conga, harmonica and sings. His music has been
described as white blues and black country-hot and fast, sweet and easy.

Radio Theatre. ASI has promised there will be a
surprise for all couples - it's a great family show too, the
kids will love it! And Steve Buffington will be only too
happy to take your picture to commenorate the occasion!
Playing at the Radio Theatre on Saturday, February the 15th
will be Ron's RIDE 'EM, COWBOY. The story appeared in
the July 1938 issue "Western Story Magazine, and apparently,
to research it, Ron attended a rodeo in Washington State,
where he was living at the time. Discovered among his papers
was the official program for the 15th Annual Ellenburg Rodeo,
held on September 4, 5 and 6, 1937, complete with notations
beside the names of some of the contestents. His research paid
off - you are really t h e r e at this rodeo!
David Carradine's daughter - COLISTA CARRADINE will
sing a song she has written during the pre-show entertainment.
Accompanying her will be MARK CAPOLUPO on his guitar
and RICK MOORE on his harmonica. These two gentlemen
will also be playing the music throught the show at appropriate
interludes.
DAVID BARTLETT will be directing again this week. DAVID
O'DONNELL and his real-life sweetheart, JENNIFER ASPEN,
play the leads while BOB CASO not only narrates but plays all
the other characters as well!
AND....the master himself DAVID BARTLETT will be handling
the Foley himself during the show !! This gentleman, who has
done the sound design for the films : Total Recall, Pulp Fiction,
and Speed will be there doing the sound effects for us on the
stage - in person!
The artists here at Authors Services really take delight in the
joy of creating. We have a surprise for couples this week but
it was a real surprise last week to see IAN BROOKS playing the
piano to accompany Sisu Raiken's song and seeing TOM FAIR
on the piano joining Rob Meisner and Stewart Cole!
The doors of The L Ron Hubbard Gallery at 7051 Hollywood
Boulevard open at 7:00 p.m., the pre-show entertainment is at
7:15 and the show begins at 8:00 p.m. The miniscule exchange
for the entertainment, parking and fantastic spread of vittles
on the 4th floor after the presentation is $5.00.

Yes indeedy. Forcible sodomy, murder for hire, drug usage, all-round
glorification of anti-social activities and even obstruction of justice
are just what the kiddies need to see! :)
Bring em all!
Now mind you, the only crimes above that Author Services actually
*promotes* generally are murder for hire (or KSW) and obstruction of
justice, but it's a little strange to see them selling 'Pulp Fiction' (a
movie I like a lot) as family entertainment.
Of course... kids *are* just 'little thetans' are'nt they?

You can lead a Clam to Reason, but you Can't Make him Think
I almost forgot this one, Tarantino's rant about Top Gun, which of course
stars the heterosexual Tom Cruise:
Tarantino: What's a film about, what's it really about? What genre does it take?
Duane: What, like the spine? Like one sentence?
Tarantino: No, I don't, fucking boy meets girl, I don't give a shit about that.
Fuck boy meets girl, fuck motorcycle movie. No, what is really being said?
What's really being said, that's what you're talking about. 'Cause the whole
idea, man, is subversion. You want subversion on a massive level. You know what
one of the greatest fucking scripts ever written in the history of Hollywood is?
Duane: What?
Tarantino: Top Gun.
Duane: Oh, come on.
Tarantino: Top Gun is fucking great. What is Top Gun? You think it's a story
about a bunch of fighter pilots.
Duane: It's about a bunch of guys waving their dicks around.
Tarantino: It is a story about a man's struggle with his own homosexuality. It
is! That is what Top Gun is about, man. You've got Maverick, all right? He's on
the edge, man. He's right on the fucking line, all right? And you've got Iceman,
and all his crew. They're gay, they represent the gay man, all right? And
they're saying, go, go the gay way, go the gay way. He could go both ways.
Duane: What about Kelly McGillis?
Tarantino: Kelly McGillis, she's heterosexuality. She's saying: no, no, no, no,
no, no, go the normal way, play by the rules, go the normal way. They're saying
no, go the gay way, be the gay way, go for the gay way, all right? That is
what's going on throughout that whole movie... He goes to her house, all right?
It looks like they're going to have sex, you know, they're just kind of sitting
back, he's takin' a shower and everything. They don't have sex. He gets on the
motorcycle, drives away. She's like, "What the fuck, what the fuck is going on
here?" Next scene, next scene you see her, she's in the elevator, she is dressed
like a guy. She's got the cap on, she's got the aviator glasses, she's wearing
the same jacket that the Iceman wears. She is, okay, this is how I gotta get
this guy, this guy's going towards the gay way, I gotta bring him back, I gotta
bring him back from the gay way, so I'm do that through subterfuge, I'm gonna
dress like a man. All right? That is how she approaches it. Okay, now let me
just ask you--I'm gonna digress for two seconds here.

There isn't one. It's a Usenet post to a newsgroup called alt.showbiz.GOSSIP.
I wasn't aware there was some amazingly high standard for what qualified
as gossip.

No, there might be personal connections. I find that kind of thing interesting.
Perhaps it's ultimately trivial, but it is, after all, gossip. You might note
that this isn't alt.showbiz.matters.of.grave.import.

I wasn't either. But it was perfect casting. The role could practically have
been written for him, rather like Travolta's role in Pulp Fiction. (Although I
have found out later that in fact QT had intended the role for Warren Beatty
as you point out below).
>Issaac Hayes? Fuck man, have you SEEN Truck Turner? It's pure

As I also pointed out, he has shown excellent choice in soundtrack,
the Jackie Brown soundtrack album being particularly outstanding.
(Although my favorite from Kill Bill is probably Malcolm McLaren's
remake or reinterpretation or whatever it is of "She's Not There,"
which is hardly in keeping with the rest of the songs.)

The intention of my post is to discuss a couple things that interest me.
I wasn't aware I needed any more to justify a Usenet post. Just playing
"Six Degrees of L. Ron Hubbard."
>BTW, he wrote the role of Bill with Warren Beatty in mind AFAIK, then
>handed it to Carradine once Beatty and Kevin Costner (apparently, just
>heresay on that last one) turned it down.
I think he's lucky. The role could have been written for Carradine, who
is someone I would never have thought would have been any good,
but was perfect for the role.
Incidentally, it doesn't appear Carradine is, in fact, a Scientologist,
despite his frequent appearances in Celebrity magazine (the magazine
of the Scientology umbrella organization Celebrity Centre International).
But to make up for it, David's brother Keith Carradine was in Nashville
in 1975, along with Scientology babe Karen Black. If you're going to
ask me what point there is to that piece of information, I will answer in
advance that there is none, and in fact it is even more utterly meaningless
than my last post. I just felt I needed something to make up for David
Carradine being (apparently) not a Scientologist.
