Peacocks are sacred to Juno, Hera, Lakshmi ,Sarasvati, Oshun, and
several other goddesses that portend wealth , prosperity, happiness,
conubial bliss.

To have peacock feathers, stuffed peacocks, peacock feathered fans,
masks, clothing etc is in ancient times very good luck and a
particular charm which is supposed to bring the efficacy of this
goddess of wealth, beauty, social joy and myrrth to your discretion.

A peacock, whether albino or not was evnviously spied as a prized
possesion in many a palace and temple both in ancient, Persia, Rome,
Babylon, and India where some claim these wonderous birds came from.
in Medieval times.
It was the peacock imagery that gave the courts of Europe the dress,
the hennen, the gate, the Dance "gavotte" and numerous things brought
back by the crusades into their country heralding the "Gothic" 14th
century,

In china peacocks were identified with the pheonix, symbol of the
Emperess.

Observe in the film "Samson and Delilah" by Cecil B De Mille the
costume Delilah wears in the last scenes; they are decorated not only
in the colors of a peacock but with peacock feathers and in fact the
entire dress, cape and all is in a museum in LA. as a couturier's
masterpiece.

Unfortunately, with the advent of christianity, all that was good,
propitious, lucky etc was deemed evil, blasphemous, dirty and impure.
And so the having of peacock feathers was prejudiced as ":bad luck"

However traditions also presume pride and prejudiced blind self
esteem. When Walt Disney made the film "Snow White" the evil queen was
fashioned after a peacock complete with peacock throne and colors in
her dress not so much because she was evil, but because she was vain.

This is another curruption of the peacock tradition.Perhaps because
the male peacock struts with obvious pride his tail which he shows off
to either another male as a challenge or a female (peahen) to attract.

In fact there is a belief that a peacock struts his tail in conceit
until some one places a mirror in front of hi and he sees his feet.
These are so ungly that in dissapointment the peacock drops and closes
his tail.

In truth, peacock feathers are beautiful feathers that represent an
icon of a very beautiful goddess that rules over wealth, love
,beauty,joy and pride.
It is the superstitious in their ignorance that jaundice their use and
appreciation.
