Woo woo Denise! Greetings of revolutionary love and affection!

Well, I guess I won't spend a whole lot of time greeting you, as I am
sitting in your house ... but I'm on your laptop and you don't even
know I'm posting here so I don't want to be rude ... LOL.

I'm glad you're taking the time to come back to alt.religion.orisha ...
It's sad to think that Orisha seekers come here to find something valid
and find only spam and crap, with only a precious few valid posts.

Being an internet fossil myself, and more than mostly retired from
religious activity (although not dead ... rumours of my death have been
greatly exaggerated <wink>), I don't do much on the net anymore ... I
just have my little personal website and my soulcrushingly boring blog.
Every once in a while someone emails me and bitches about my articles
not being on the net. Well ... they are. You can find my writings at
http://www.mysticcurio.com/cyclone/stuffiwrote.htm

I was a kid when I wrote most of this stuff. Much of it is ten years
old or more, so I could only have had five years or so in Osha. It
still holds up pretty well though, IMHO. Who knows, I might drag out a
quill and parchment and write something new in the near future, or
perhaps I'm working on something Right Now ;-)

Oh and by the way ... I did NOT become a rabbi (haha), although these
days I do use my Hebrew name (Shloma Menachem Mendel) in my everyday
life, and have adopted an old family name (Rosenberg) to replace the
pejorative surname given my family in Germany. Nope, I am chock full of
Jewish pride, and keep traditions here and there mostly for Egun's
sake, but that's pretty much where it ends. My Orishas aren't laying at
the bottom of a river somewhere as has been speculated.

Well, you've brought me out of my hole what with divining for people
and whatnot during my stay at your Fabulous Farm here in New York, so I
thought I'd return the favour and help you resurrect
alt.religion.orisha Old School.

Fist Raised,

Bendicion Afolabi,

A big hug to you too.

Great to see you posting here - hopefully we will be able to bring back
some of the oldtimers - and attract some new folk here.

I'm glad you posted links to your writings - they had a profound impact
on me years ago - and still do today - plus you have a wonderfully
witty way with words (you wascally wabbit)

Weird to post a conversation with someone who is sitting in my rocking
chair as I type - but from such beginnings newsgroups are revived!

Hasta la victoria siempre,

Denise

Wow. You've been through some changes! Great to see you posting -- and
thanks for making your Lukumi essays avaialble on the web. The one on
witchcraft and paranoia is a classic of sensible information.

Thanks Cat!

Yeah, I finally came out of hibernation, a little different on the
surface maybe (lol). Thanks for your feedback on the witchcraft
article. Hopefully I'll have some new stuff to put up soon.

BTW, I finally got to see your book (Denise's godson Jesse showed it to
me), VERY cool! I have to get ahold of one when I get home.

Best,

Schloma,
I just need to share this with you, headed over to your site, thinking
hmm, I"ll read some of what you had written. Spotted towards the
bottom, something NEW!!!

Oh God, well the computer room walls now have coffee splashed all over
them, see you can't keep coffee out of my mouth while reading, laughing
so hard I snorted the damn coffee, which was sprayed (Lukumi style) all
over the walls and monitor screen. I too have witnessed the
"possession" of the babalowo you mention in your article, and truly
had the same gut wrenching feelings you did....Showtime!!!
Thank you for giving me the laugh of the day.
love ya

Haha, that's awesome! I'm REALLY glad I gave you a laugh. I wrote that
piece ages ago but was trying to be "nice" and didn't put it up (except
on a private mailing list). Now that the legendary Babalawo has
slandered Lukumi again (!) I'm glad I had no mercy. LOL

If anybody wants to read the ramblings of a wide-eyed child who
stumbled into a snake pit, the article is at
http://www.mysticcurio.com/cyclone/falokun.htm (whoops, I guess the URL
gives away who it's about ... tee hee).

Now if you don't mind, I have to go google some more Anderson Cooper
pictures.

XXOO,
Afolabi

That was utterly hilarious! I have many similar stories, but minus the
visual component, for obvious reasons.
