-- This is from the latest The Economist/YouGov poll,
and it shows Mitt Romney's big problem in a nutshell:
people just don't like him much.

He's doing OK among Republicans, and he'll probably
do better as the election draws closer, but among independents
he's 24 percentage points behind Obama in likeability.

You may or may not believe that Americans should vote
for the guy they'd rather watch the Super Bowl with, but
they do. And right now, they really, really don't want to
invite Romney into their living rooms.

For Republicans, it is more important to be liked then Democrats,
conversely to be seen as efficient is more important for Democrats then
Republicans. Obama is seen as less efficient then Romney but more likeable.
In other words, they are both weakest where they need it.

Latest figures suggest that Obama bad handling of the economy is not the
only factor in driving favorability down to 36%. It is mainly his negative
style of campaigning. The big problem Obama has here, is he has so few
achievements in office so he has to run negative but it is partly
backfiring.

Obama嚙踝蕭s Ratings Dive
By Dick Morris on July 24, 2012

His personal favorability, once a strong point for Obama, has vanished and
is now being replaced by a personal dislike that is dragging him down.

These data, buried deep in the latest NY Times/CBS poll (of registered
voters, not likely voters) are both stark and important. In April, Obama
had a 42-45 favorable/unfavorable rating, itself a shock given his vastly
higher favorable ratings only a few months before. Now, he has a favorable
rating of only 36% and an unfavorable rating of 48%.

The NY Times poll showed Romney getting 47% of the vote compared to 46% for
Obama (again, this poll is of registered voters, likely voter polls are
more pro-Romney). So that means that one-quarter of Obama嚙踝蕭s voters do not
give him a favorable rating 嚙碾 a danger sign for the president.

What is most notable about this statistic is that it is not due primarily
to the bad economy. While the Times poll showed that the percent of voters
who feel he is doing a good job in handling the economy has dropped to 36%,
Obama嚙踝蕭s ratings in this category have been low for some time. The drop in
favorability is new.

Rather the cause of his decreased likeability is his negative campaigning,
both in person and on the air. He is now no longer the sunny, optimistic,
friendly person he portrayed himself as being in 2008. Instead, a nasty,
surly, angry image has taken over.

This change is at the heart of Obama嚙踝蕭s dilemma. The more he goes negative,
the more he hurts himself in the process and undermines the reservoir to
good will that has sustained him through tough economic times.

As recently as one year ago, Obama嚙踝蕭s personal favorability was ten points
above his vote share in most polls. Now it is ten points below it presaging
further a likely further drop in his poll numbers.

Too bad Romney doesn't have two little daughters who Obama keeps quoting
doctrine from for the US government.
Unfortunately Romney doesn't need a teleprompter as he understands finance
and foreign affairs.
Romney has never learned Obama's ass kissing technique's that make the USA a
laughing stock around the world. But while women may not like Romney,
fundamentalist terrorists abroad love Obama.
Big problem when casting a vote.
On one hand a successful business man/Governor who understand finance and
foreign affairs who will recover US status abroad & at home.
On the other hand a back slapping closet Muslim with no governmental acumen,
who in the last 4 years has done nothing but make things worse.
Tough decision?

LOL! If you think America's status abroad has deteriorated since Obama
succeeded Bush, you need to stop watching Fox News, and get some real
information for a change.

LOL, nobody ever listens to Rush or
watches Faux.

yet all the cute little buzzwords gush forth in
lockstep.

it's yet another example of the moral and
intellectual failing of the right wing -
mindlessly following an authority that
is embarrassing to associate with.

ROFLMAO! If you think Obama is "flushing the USA down the toilet", you
are obviously either one of the ultra-wealthy, or a total retard.
American is fast on its way to becoming a third-world nation, with all the
wealth in the hands of a few, and everyone else groveling for scraps. My
vision of America is for everyone to have a reasonable quality of life,
even if that involves a little "redistribution of wealth".

Amen Mark. The pre-requisite to becoming a Neo-con is apparently not
realizing that the greatest danger to Capitalism is de-regulated
