The following is Bulla's own account of deserting his wife and children
and running from the law:
Sheriff's deputies came with handcuffs led by my brother in law, Clyde.
My family had been stolen from me by boy scouts with pickup trucks,
traiterous mother-in-law, suborned stake authorities, etc.

flowers in one hand for my wife and candy for the children whom I had
not seen in two weeks.

Now after I had made my escape from the clutches of those evil men and
women, I made my way back to my in Randolph Co., N.C. (we had a
farmhouse which we heated in the winter by burning walnut cut offs from
the furniture factories in High Point) and I had no money. And the
spirit whispered for me to flee, for there was no mercy there, no one to
turn to, and I took my wife's sewing machine to a second hand store in
Greensboro for gas money.
The Lord was in it for I made instant friends with the owner who was my
age, and he stood out on the main street of Greensboro, and pointed to a
building and said, "See that building? I own that building", it was
about fifteen stories high. He pointed to several more, and said, "That
one is full of refrigerators", etc. He said, he was a millionaire and
that he was not as happy as when he had no money.
He considered my plight for I told him of my wife and mother-in-law and
the Mormons hunting me like some kind of deer.
And he said that he had a truck and he would come with me at night and
load up all the goods in the house and he offered to pay me a sum of
money which would enable me to flee the state. I instantly accepted,
for the goods were mine, and I did not regard any court has the right to
dictate me in my family affairs, despite what the gentile mammon
believes, and he and I loaded up everything except what I could carry in
my car which was a Triumph Gt 6 hatchback. He drove the truck back to
Greensboro when we had completed this.
My wife stole the book of remembrance and I took the genealogy and the
journal and a few other items and began camping out. Well they could
not find me, and I decided to give Cathy one more chance, for we were
very close and I just could not understand her betrayal (she took issue
with the revelation I received on my Messiahship which I can explain if
given the chance) and invented all sorts of lies about me subsequently
even to my five children.
Well the spirit told me to go to Utah, and I determined to leave
that next morning. Well, the court put out a warrant for my arrest for
contempt, and the spirit had whispered to me to camp out in Guilford
Co., which I did, and they could not find me. Well I was leaving for the
Tennessee border the next morning and I thought, well I would call her
on[e] last time, and she said, in her old manner, "Let's talk"
My heart lept for joy, I was such a fool. She said for me to meet her at
old Carl's Grocery Story on Highway 220, at 10:00 pm.
Carl was such a great friend and I was going to baptize him in a farm
pond near there, where I had done other baptisms and will always love
him for what he did, which I will later explain. Well,
I was driving in my low slung green Triumph GT6 with wire wheels and an
in-line six with two zenith-strombug carbeurators, to the appointment,
when an audible voice above my head spoke in a clear voice and said,
"They have the sheriff after you".
I was completely duped to that point, Cathy knowing just how to speak to
me on the phone, the right tone of voice, the words, etc.
The scales of course then fell from my eyes, and I realized the danger I
was in. The voice then commanded park the British sports car "behind
that tree", which was situated almost directly across the highway from
Carl's, and it was a bushy fern, which I obeyed. Well Cathy and her
mother showed up at the appointed time, and Clara had a towel wrapped
around her head.
Cathy was driving and the first thing she said was "Where
is you car?" I immediately said "You have the sheriff after me and we
will have to go somewhere else, if you want to talk."
Clara then said "would I be dressed like this, referring to the towel,
if I was going to talk to the sheriff?" So her mother must have thought
"This guy is smarter than I believed" for she always took me to be a
simpleton as she did all men, commanded Cathy (Cathy had been in slavery
to her mother before I met her, her mother had ruined three of her own
marriages, and now wanted to ruin mine) to get out of the car and "talk
to him".
As I looked over Cathy's shoulder into the highway, I immediately saw
three sheriff's patrol cars shoot past and they went to the wrong store
a little down the highway, and realizing their mistake, for they saw us,
turned around with lights and spots ablaze.
Cathy's mother then jumped out of the car and pointed at me, "There he
is! There he is!" I remember she still had the towel wrapped around her
head, as they began their turn into Carl's small parking lot. Terror, of
course seized me, and I sprang into action, and turned and ran for the
woods above the railroad tracks behind Carl's Store, and hurtled
pell mell straight into the thickest blackberry patch I had ever
experienced in my life, for I had grown up in North Carolina, and used
to pick blackberries for a pie my mother would make. They seemed to
frequent railroad tracks a lot,
and the over-weight sheriff's deputies balked at chasing me on foot,
especially into the fearsome patch, and one of my relatives, a Bulla,
was the Chief of Police in Asheboro.
I finally reached the tracks I knew were there and crouched down and
watched and waited apprehensively. They congregated milled about, and
began searching for my car, for if they found it, they would have had me
dead to rights, for this was a rural area. Their spotlights searched
high and low, and the beams occasionaly would point crazily up in the air.
Then my great friend Carl (who stood over six feet) came out of his
store and in a loud voice which I could distinctly hear pierced the
night air, and commanded to the crowd, "Get off of my property! Now!"
which they then did.
They searched for three hours for my Triumph, even though it was just
across the street!
When they finally gave up, and all was calm and deserted, with my heart
in my throat, I made my way down to the highway and bolted across it,
jumped in my Triumph, and was across the Tennessee state line a few
hours later.
I stopped at a pay phone and tried to call Cathy, for I was still in
love with her, and she just hung up on me without saying a word. So I
was delivered by the hand of the Lord, that I could sing my song and
publish peace and say upon the mountains to Zion, "Thy God reigneth!"
So that is the true story of my "desertion".
Brigham Young "deserted" his wife and children on a sick bed to go to
England on a mission, and my mission was to the decrepit and corrupt
Mormons to try to reclaim them from the bondage of Babylon the Great
to build Zion.
Jesus "deserted" his wives and children to be hung on a piece of wood,
worse than a common thief. If that is "desertion" so be it, for I love
the Kingdom of God and its righteousness more than my life or even my
children, though I wept many times over their situation.
Eliza left home many times because the Mormons stole her from me, and
she will today have nothing to do with the enlightened Mormons mob who
robbed me of my family.
