Interrobang Cartel. Thumbing through the collection of their songs, I
found "Chalice of Fire". (http://interrobang.jwgh.org/songs/
chalice.mp3) Holy crap. I was blown away. It seriously sounds near to
the quality of Sting (Desert Rose came to mind). Of course, the
greatness of this song far surpasses anything by Sting by virtue of
its Kibological content.
This brings me to the question: Who did the vocals? Is it just CB's
own personal project? Solo? Group? Amazing!!!
On a different note, is the Cartel more centralized nowadays, or is it
still a spread out contribution project?

That was all Casey, I believe. I can only think of one Casey IBC
recording with additional vocals by someone else: "Love of
Stones" (female vocals by Kerri.)
Instrumentation is all his, too, and this seems to be the case for
most of his work, although there may be some additional guitar work in
"Hedgerow Hypothesis"; I'm unclear as to whether someone contributed
just the idea for the melody line, or actually played the guitar
melody. The one recording he made that definitely has other
instrumental contributions is "Go Again", part of the Open Source Jam
some of us were contributing to.

There's a whole buttload of ifs and maybes in the answer to your
question.
What do you mean by "more centralized"? All in one geographic
location? OK, with Casey too busy to participate these days and a drop
in world-wide interest, IBC seems to mainly be a North American
project. I suppose you could say it's more geographically centralized.
None of the collaborators are living in the same city, though.
Sad to say, this is mainly because of a lack of interest. Most people
don't want to write stuff anymore, and only a few people did much
recording; worse yet, you are apparently our last remaining fan
(although I see Nicko casually dropped our name in the worthless
document thread.) The last few members of the Cartel do occasional
work, but we have so little free time... and, since no one's listening
to our music anymore, little incentive.
Still, we do still produce. There's more collaboration going on: a
couple recent songs by Major Zed and Charlie. Major Zed is notable as
the first non-ARK Cartel member. Right now, he's working on song
lyrics from another non-ARK Cartel member. That means we may be
growing!
Naturally, I have to take a great deal of the blame for the current
state of the Cartel. I'm way behind on fixing up the website, as
evidenced by your link to the old songs repository instead of the new
mp3 page at:

It's all on the same server, but the old page only lists maybe a third
of the mp3s available. Of course, the rest of the new site is horribly
incomplete: the lyrics are missing, and none of the new promised
features are available. We do have a forum, though:

Check that out for links to the most recent songs, which I haven't
added to the mp3 page yet. Join either or both forums if you want to

comfortable doing that.
+ If you do art, submit album art.
+ Submit photos of big Interrobang Cartel concerts you've attended.
+ Help write band biographies -- they don't have to be accurate!
+ Remix existing songs!
+ Create music videos and upload them to YouTube!

You don't have to take the blame, because any of us could have offered to
help out, but the coincidence of its demise with my acquiring a big bag
of "The Sun! She Explode!" magnets and pasting the URL on the backs of
them is certainly a major factor in my own inactivity. It's far from the
only factor--the slow death of my keyboard and sad state of my 4-track
are other major ones, along with the job and house upheavals, of course.

Brilliant. To be honest, I didn't know it was an ARK-related project
when I ran across it a while ago (researching punctuation). At that
time, I listened to one song and decided that it wasn't form me. What
was that song? Fuck the Bees. And, of course, I thought it was some
band seriously talking about how much they hated bees. I should have
noticed "Free the Cones". That would have given it away.
Anyway, last Tuesday I was browsing Wikipedia again and saw IBC listed
in the Kibology article. Then it dawned on me. I had fallen prey to
one of the (in)famous ARK pranks. I cried until I laughed.
Then I downloaded all of the songs.

The forums scare me. I was considering saying something a week ago,
but I got scared off by the forum. They have not many boxes containing
the posts and threads. I think that a nice, clean forum would scare me
less. It's pretty simple to get a phpBB forum going (hint, hint)... I
can contribute some of my meager (nonexistent) talents though.

I'm not certain. I used to pronounce is "fösk" but now I think it
rhymes with "musk" (so "lsck" should probably be pronounced "lusck",
which is better because it's closer to "luck").

One might also consider the alternative "fs-uck", which brings in another
innuendo level as welltoo+.

I suspect that the Tradition of nearly and ambiguously unpronounceable
commands (mv, cp, vi, etc.) is a bit of a sibboleth [oops!] to
separate those of us who learned Unix from a book from those who
received it directly from a master.

"F-sek" is probably the closest to what I pronounce it as, but in
reality, I just pronounce it "fsck". Occasionally, I will need to
get someone to unfuck a disk though.

Finally got around to watching this (I've been doing something
computer-intensive for a couple days, and didn't want to do much
multitasking aside from reading.) I don't think reinterpreting "I
Wanna Hold Your Hand" as a lesbian song is all that Cartelish. Maybe
if it was a lesbian singing the song to a famous anti-homosexual
advocate while chasing her around and trying to grab her hand (for
maximum effect, film this video live, with a real anti-homosexual
advocate, and without her cooperation.) Oh, and the middle verse
should be sung in a different style, like opera.
Now, some elements of the *video itself* were a bit Cartelish. The
singer singing with great melancholy while walking slowly through
colliding football players comes to mind. Actually, if you just added
sound effects of bodies slamming together and guys grunting, the music
itself would be Cartelish, too.

Now *that* is an IBC-style reinterpretation. Complete disconnect
between the style of the music/vocals and the lyrical content. Also,
ridiculous stuff in the video. People I know who always hated Alanis
Morrisette have developed a new respect for her, because of that
video.
