Instant review: sushi from Roadmate in Deale

Nuff said.
Deale is a small town near where I live in Redneckistan. Roadmate is
a new pizza/burger/sandwich/spaghetti/stromboli/sushi/salad restaurant
(where restaurant = order at counter, and you can eat there, but there
are only a handful of tables and the ambiance is pretty drab).
The proprietors are Asian. I don't know whether they are the same
folks who ran the Arthur Treacher's that used to be at the same
location. The Arthur Treacher's people were Korean, and I always had
a forlorn hope that they would start offering kimchee as well as fast
food fish, but they never did that I know of. At least Roadmate
tries, with the sushi. The next closest places to get sushi that I
are a 30 to 40 minute drive away.

There's a sushi place in downtown Albany, NY where I work. The seafood
must be fresh, after all it's practically on the waterfront...of the
beautiful Hudson river...

I live by the Chesapeake Bay, so in theory they could do decent crab
sushi or even flounder or rockfish. But the tuna in the spicy tuna
roll smelled suspiciously like canned tuna (and looked it too--and not
even albacore but the low-cost darker stuff). The California roll,
which apparently was vegetarian, was tastier. I might get that again,
if I have a real hankering for sushi, but I'll provide my own soy
sauce and wasabi next time.
Really, just the concept of sushi in this tiny backwater town is
satisfying enough for me, even if the sushi itself isn't.

SSC: The fact that so many people go gaga over sushi, as if it were the
food of the gods or something -- or even just the fact that so many

I feel that way about most commercial pizza. It floors me that people
not only eat the stuff, often frequently, but even pay to have someone
bring it to their home.

I just checked their website to look at locations and was *shocked* how
few are left. There is one 2.7 miles (according to Google Maps) from
my office though.

If it helps at all, it wasn't much of an Arthur Treacher's. It was
grafted onto an existing pizza joint in a little storefront, and the
people I knew who went there went for the pizza. The Arthur
Treacher's lasted maybe two years. This is just not a good area for
fast food chains; the population is still too low, thank God.

Arthur Treacher used to be a sidekick on a talk show, but I donut
remember which one. Looked it up on W'pedia, it was Merv Griffin. There
used to be an Arthur Treacher's near where I live, but it became a pwn
shop ages ago. ("What a wonderful feeling, I'm pwning again!")
