Given the huge amount of bandwidth taken up on
alt.religion.kibology with the discussion of sporks, bandwidth that could
otherwise have been put to good use with cascades, dahmum and
frame-by-frame commentaries of laserdiscs, I have decided to take the
initiative and propose that a newsgroup be dedicated to these wonderful
implements. (and no, alt.plastic.utensils.spork.spork.spork does not
really exist.)

RFD: alt.spork

PURPOSE: For the discussion of sporks, dining utensils which combine
the best features of spoons and forks.

Topics that could be discussed in this newsgroup include:

-- Spork vs. Fork: the great flam^H^H^H^Hdebate.

-- Where to acquire sporks.

-- Which sporks are the best, most robust, et cetera.

-- What foods to eat with sporks.
(Has anybody here eaten Spam with a spork?
Cheez-Whiz? Lutefisk? Vegemite?)

-- unorthodox uses for sporks.

If you would like to see this newsgroup, or would like to say something
about this proposal, please follow up.

If, as you say, spork discussion takes place mainly on
alt.religion.kibology, the spork group should obviously be a subgroup of
the alt.religon.kibology hierarchy. In this wise, its relatedness to Kibo
will be obvious, which is more than you can say for a group called
'alt.spork' floating around out there by itself in a cruel sea of
alt.christnet groups.

Hence, I feel this group, IF it is to be created, should be
"alt.religion.kibology.spork."

As far as I can tell, the group's actually called
"alt.plastic.utensils.spork.spork.spork" I've already subscribed to it,
in fact.

*YOU* are subscribed to it because Netcom never removes a group for any
reason. The rest of the world isn't subscribed to it because it's a *.*.*
group and those hardly get carried anywhere these days.

If a spork group is needed, it should be alt.religion.kibology.spork.

No, but I know someone who has. Or rather, a friend of mine knows
someone who has.

> -- unorthodox uses for sporks.

Another friend has come up with some interesting uses which he
collectively calls RwatersporksS. One of the more appealing,
especially if you're into conservation, is the method by which one can
split a stream into three, thus showering more people per urethra than
by any other method.

>If you would like to see this newsgroup, or would like to say something
>about this proposal, please follow up.

I tried to mail, to save bandwidth, but my newsreader doesn't know
your email address. Perhaps you did that on purpose?

To Joel Furr: sporks are not a private topic of kibology. It's
obvious if you look at the crossposts. I vote alt.spork.

Hello, I'm an anal net.cop of alt.config. For some reason, we don't want
any more newsgroups with just two words. We also don't want any
alt.foo.bar.bar.bar groups, so here's a better idea for the name of your
group, which we won't let you have anyway:

alt.religion.kibology.spork.talk.goes.here.B1FF!!!1

But it's cool that Kibo has seen the dark side of the Net.

The alt.religion.kibology discussion is but the latest
manifestation of the discussion of sporks; this perennial topic has
phenomenised on alt.slack, alt.discordia, alt.spam and countless other
groups. In a sense, sporks are like Spam. No single category (kibology,
SubGenius, Discordianism, Cthulhu cult, etc.) encompasses them, although
they can all claim to have something to do with them.

The proposed name will lead to heirarchy trouble when the spife
discussion gets out of hand and the bamboo chopsticks fans want a
piece of the action and so on. alt.plastic.utensils.spork.spork.spork
not only suffers from a.adj.n.*.*.* format but needlessly excludes
metal, wood, and ceramic sporks. Therefore we recommend
alt.utensils.spork as the first (and most urgently needed) group in
the new alt.utensils heirarchy.

I have a question that has bugged me for a long time, and
I now see an outlet for this spork angst. Perhaps some
knowledgable soul out there can help me in my most Ultimate

Where does the runcible spoon fit into the spork cosmology?

Down the hall and to your right. Don't go down the stairs or you'll
end up in the morgue, instead. Very spooky down there with all those
cadavers, pathologists, and medical students.

Oh... I'm sorry, runcible *spoon*! I thought you said... well, never
mind. My mistake. Sorry for the rather gruesome mention of the
morgue and all that. But, remember, this is a medical school.

Now excuse me, I have to go turn my head and cough.

Would a discussion of runcible spoons be appropriate to this group? If so,
I would vote in favor of it. If not, I'd have to vote against it.
