I thought he'd died a few years ago, but he apparently didn't get the
news until yesterday. Who death-rayed him? Oh noes! My archive
fingers John Winston in October 2010.

I haven't read much Bradbury in recent years (though I reread
"Something Wicked This Way Comes" probably every five or six years),
but his work had an important impact on me when I was a fledgling
writer in high school. The short story about the dinosaur and the
butterfly was important to me not so much for the concept as for the
descriptive language. It was the first time I had paid close
attention to how a writer achieved an effect through the choice of
words. Slate has reprinted an old article by Bryan Curtis, who argued
for an appreciation of Bradbury as a pulp writer rather than a
literary writer and said: "anyone who re-reads 'A Sound of Thunder'
will find Bradbury at his hammy best, a pulp god at full power." I'll
second that.

Same here, when a friend pointed it out to me earlier today!

I blame the aliens.

After my friend mentioned it, I came across this:

Sci-Fi legend Ray Bradbury (RIP) never drove a car and got around
by walking or with roller skates, bicycle, and public
transportation in Los Angeles.

Metoo. It's just the splitting and re-merging of the timelines, not
the warranties on our branes running out.

Frinst, in my timeline Nelson Mandela died in prison, but apparently
not in this one.

I knew he was crazy but that's impressive even for him.

In my timeline, Steve Biko died in prison, and Nelson Mandela was
eventually freed and went on to be elected president of South Africa.

In mine,r. Rogers was a despotic tyrant who initiated WW III, killing
off 75% of the world's population before choking to death on a Pez
candy.

That's weird. In my timeline, Mr. Rogers was the greatest wartime
leader in history. Too bad he choked to death on a Pez.

He never was the same after Trigger died.
