This namaz is not Wajib (obligatory), but is highly recommended. It can be
prayed after midnight till true dawn which is known as Subhe-Saadiq (ie 1hr.
and 20 min. before sunrize).

73:06 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul) and
most suitable for (forming) the word (of prayer and praise).

32:16 Their limbs do forsake their beds of sleep while they call on
their Lord in fear and hope. And they spend (in charity) out of
the sustenance which we have bestowed on them.

17:79 And pray in the small hours of the morning an additional prayer (of
spritual profit) for thee. Soon will thy Lord raise thee to a station
of praise and glory.

How to recite Namaz-e-Shab
--------------------------

The basic Namaz consists of 3 parts and a total of 11 Rakats to be prayed as
follows:

a) 8-rakats like Namaz-e-Fajr. Read Tashahud Salaam after every two rakats.
So basically, it is like 4 Namazes consisting of 2 rakats each. Read the
Tasbeeh-e-Janab-e-Fatima Zehra (AS). Then supplicate Allah (SWT) for the
fullfilment of your desire and He most surely will grant it. Finish the
namaz by performing Sajdah-e-Shukr.

Niyat: I recite Namaz-e-Shab Sunnat Qurbatan Illallah

b) 2-rakats like Namaz-e-Fajr. Don't read Qunoot in second rakat.
Recite Surah Falaq (The Dawn) in first rakat after Al-Hamd and recite
Surah Nas (The Men) in second rakt after Al-Hamd. Finish the prayer
with Tashahid-Salaam, read Tasbeeh-e-Janabe-e-Fatima Zehra (AS),
supplicate to Allah (SWT), and perform Sajdah-e-Shukr.

Niyat: I recite Namaz-e-Shafa Sunnat Qurbatan Illallah

c) This namaz has one rakat. Recite Al-Hamd once, Surah Tauhid three times,
Surah Falaq once, and Sura Naz once. Then Qunoot as in any 2nd
rakat. Keep hands in same position for Dua (supplication), and after Dua
repeat whilst in the position of Qunoot.

1) Say 100 times Astaghfir-Ullaha Rabbi wa Atooba Ilaih (if necessary one
can keep a Rosary (Tasbeeh) in hand to help keep count).

2) Recite 40 names of male momeens, each to be preceded by Allah-hoom
mughfirlil. If it is difficult to recall the names of 40 momeens, then
recite Allah-hoom mughfirlil momeeneen wul momeenat.

3) Then repeat 300 times Al-afv (please forgive) and complete the
namaz with rukoo, sajdah, tashadud salaam, Tasbeeh-e-Janab-Fatima
Zehra (AS),
supplication, and Sajdah-e-Shukr. It's good to also recite a zairat.

Niyat: I recite Namaz-e-Witr Sunnat Qurbatan Illallah.

For more details and getting more benefits of the prayer, see the books and/or
ask an alim.

There are many benefits listed of Namaz-e-Shab in Holy Qur'an and hadith.
Namaz-e-Shab is a guarantee of daily bread. It is in hadith that one who
performs Namaz-e-Shab and complains about his daily bread is a liar. There
will be an announcement of the Day of Judgement that collect those who used to
perform Namaz-e-Shab and they will not be asked what they had done in the
world. Shaitan is defeated by him who prays Namaz-e-Shab. The face of a
momin who prays Namaz-e-Shab glitters with special lights (Noor). Namaz-e-Shab
is good for health and there are lots of benefits of praying it
in the world as well as in the next world. Namaz-e-Shab can be prayed with
the niyat of Qaza anytime from morning till sunset. Please utilize this great
blessing of Allah (SWT).

Peace be with you.
