Excerpted from THE LIVING WORD, Book 2, by Harold Klemp, pg. 183:

"A Higher Initiate met a man successful in business who has little acquaintance
with Eckankar. She told him about singing HU, the spiritual exercise that
centers upon one of God's holy names. She told him how to do a contemplation."

"'And look for a white or blue light,' she added."

"Some months later he called to tell her he would soon be in town on business.
He also said the HU exercise wasn't working: no white or blue light."

"Rather than take his statement at face value, something (the ECK) prompted her
to ask him a question."

"'So, what do you see?'"

"Nothing but this small Chinese guy with a long white beard!'"

"She knew it was the ECK Master Lai Tsi. 'I'll bring a picture of him when we
meet for dinner,' she promised."

"'No, don't bring a picture,' he said. 'What if it's him?'"

"She brought it anyway, and he recognized Lai Tsi immediately. The Higher
Initiate had mixed feelings about the connection between this man and the ECK
hierarchy, because she knew what lay ahead for him. Humorously, she referred
to the release of karma to come into his life as 'the scrubbing and all.'"

There *is* no "Lai Tsi", and these stories are lies.

Diana Stanley, who did the cult's official eckmaster portraits, left the
cult and admitted she made up the pictures.

And here we see a bit of Twitch plagiarizing to create his phony
"eckmaster".

LAI TSI versus LAMA NGAWANG KALZANG: ROUND TWO

THE WAY OF SOPHISTICATED PLAGIARISM

Look closely at the following excerpts and see where Twitchell has
"reworked" Govinda's passage:

Sample Two:

Excerpt from The Shariyat-Ki-Sugmad, Book One, Chapter Nine, The Visions of
Lai Tsi, by Paul Twitchell, 1970:

"He did not believe his ears because it seemed impossible for anyone to
live in this forbidding place. At first he feared the sound, thinking it
might be some demon luring him into its claws. But torn between curiosity
and fear, he followed the sound as if it were a magnet drawing him on. Soon
he saw the great ECK Master seated before a cave, absorbed in
contemplation, his face lit with inspiration and devotion. The sheepherder
lost all fear and approached Lai Tsi, and when the Master touched him there
was a stream of bliss that flowed through his body. Immediately he forgot
all the questions to ask and, instead, requested the Master's blessings."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Excerpt from The Way of The White Clouds: A Buddhist Pilgrim in Tibet,
Chapter Two, The Guru's Vision, by Lama Anagarika Govinda, 1966,

"At first he did not believe his ears, because he could not imagine that
any human being could exist in this forbidding place. . But when the sound
came again and again fear filled him, because if these sounds had no human
origin then they could only have some supernatural cause."

"Torn between fear and curiosity, he followed, the sound, as if drawn by an
irresisible force of a magnet, and soon he saw the figure of a hermet,
seated before a cave, absorbed in devotional practice... The herdsman
immediately lost all fear, after the hermit had finished his invocations he
confidently approached the Lama and asked for his blessings."

Thanks for that, Sharon. During all my years in Eckankar I always had the
uncomfortable feeling Paul Twitchell created Lai Tzi from Lao Tzu, the
semi-legendary author of the Taoteching.

La (i) Ts (i)
La (o)Ts (u),

(I've also seen it spelled lao tzu, lao tze, lao tzi, lao zu)

All too similar for my taste. Then one day, while watching an old black and
white movie from the early '40's on the tube, I heard Lai Tsi's Chant from the
Shariyat Ki Sugmud being recited in the movie!!

Show me thy ways, Oh Lord.
Teach me thy path.
Lead me in thy truth and teach me.
On thee do I wait all day.

Then I realized that Twitchell had plagiarized this prayer from a Christian
source, putting the words into the mouth of Lao Tzu, I mean, em, Lai Tzi.

I'd seen such clues over and over again, until I had a pretty good idea that
Twitchell was a fraud and a plagiarist before I'd ever read Lane's stuff. But
it took a real knock over my head before I finally left the group.

For more on Lai Tsi's prayer (taken from the Bible) see:

JAN replies:
Lai Tsi is the ECK Master who presides over the Dayaka Temple of Golden Wisdom
in the etheric worlds, and throughout time Lai Tsi's prayer is repeated in many
sources as another help for people who wish to connect with Spirit to find an
avenue to do so.

Several interesting examples of people having experiences with Lai Tsi are
found here:

A Gift to Remember

A Master from Her Dreams Gives the Gift of Love

By F. B.

When I was nine years old, I began having visits in my dreams from an old Asian
man. He had a long white beard and the most beautiful eyes. They seemed to look
right through me. He wore a funny little hat on his head and had a beautiful
smile. Every night he would talk to me about life and explain the meaning of
different things I wondered about.

One afternoon I went to a movie with my girlfriends. We were standing in line
waiting to
buy our tickets, laughing and being silly like normal nine-year-old girls.
Suddenly I felt something. I looked past the booth where they sold the tickets.
There stood the man who had been in my dreams for almost a year. When our eyes
met, he nodded at me. Then he was gone.

I didn't think to turn around to my girlfriends and say, "Look at that man over
there! He is
the man from my dreams!" For some reason it seemed best to keep silent.

That very night he came to me again in my dreams. He said, "Tonight will be the
last
time I meet with you. I have to leave you now. I have to go away."

I replied, "Oh, but I'm going to miss you! I wish you didn't have to leave."

He said, "I have to do what I have to do, but just so you know that dreams are
real, I have a gift for you." He placed a white plastic barrette in my hand and
curled my fingers around it. Then he was gone.

When I woke up the next morning, the white barrette was really in my hand!

I began thinking about my parents, especially my mother. If she saw me with
this barrette she would want to know where it came from. She wouldn't
understand that a man in my dreams gave it to me. Before anyone else awoke, I
snuck out of the house. I went out to the backyard, dug a hole, and buried the
barrette.

But I only let go of the barrette's physical aspect. The true meaning of the
gift never left
me. That gift gave me the understanding of the true reality of our inner and
outer lives. It proved that dreams are real.

I'll never forget the wonderful man who taught me in my dreams. At the time, I
didn't
know his name. Years later when I found the teachings of Eckankar, I discovered
he was the ancient Chinese ECK Master, Lai Tsi.

Lots of old Taoists had funny hats and long white beards. Many of them were
capable of various abilities. So which of the thousands of such folk do you
suppose she saw in her dream? I still have the drawings of these masters. Most
of them could be considered archetypes we all carry around in ourt heads. Look
at the "Hermit" on the standard Rider Taro deck. Long beard, old robe, long
staff, wizened appearance. Look at Gandalf in Lord of the Rings. I have seen
many depictions of old Chinese in traditional dress that have an uncanny
appearance to the Lai Tsi depictions. Sort of a stereotypical image.
