[ quoted but I forgot from where and whom ;-]

- Monotheism. Some religions are monotheistic and assert the existence
of a unique god. In the English language, the common noun "god" is
equivalent to "deity", while "God" (capitalized) is the name of the unique
deity of monotheism. Also referred to as "Him" or "You" in prayer and song.

- Dualism is the view that there are two deities: a deity of Good who is
opposed and thwarted by a deity of Evil, of equal power. Manichaeism,
Zoroastrianism, and Gnostic sects of Christianity are, or were, dualist.

- Pantheism considers the Universe itself to be a deity.

- Polytheism asserts the existence of several gods, who together form a
pantheon.

- Henotheism is a form of polytheism in which one god is worshipped as
supreme.

- Monolatrism is a type of polytheism in which gods are believed to exert
power only on those who worship them.

- Animism is the belief that spirits inhabit every existing thing, including
plants, minerals, animals and, including all the elements, air, water,
earth, and fire. The anthropologist E. B. Tylor argued that religion
originally took an animist form.

- Theism is the view that at least one god exists.

- Atheism is either the denial of the existence of gods or God, or the
absence of the belief that there are gods or God.

I'll take Animism for $100!

I basically agree with Tylor and appreciate his effort to get away from
Darwinistic interpretations in his field even if he didn't entirely succeed
in shedding the "progressive" notions of human societal development.

Yeah! but any Henotheism or Monolatrism involved or not?
Just asking out of curiosity for better understanding of positions.

(of course I'm going by Pantheist Animism which you already know ;)

Okay as long as "progress" is only used as a non-qualifying description
as in the older etymology and not the newer [1], I'd say religion has
indeed been going through stages based on a detectable pattern?

[1] progress (n.)
1432, "a going on, action of walking forward," from O.Fr. progres, from L.
progressus (see progression). Figurative sense of "growth, development,
advancement to higher stages" is from 1603. The verb is attested from
c.1590 in the lit. sense, 1610 in the fig. sense.

There is a some patronage in there (Lugh and the Morrigan are patron
and matron to my Tuath), but I guess can I have polytheistic
henotheism? I will only offer praise to the Tuatha de Dannan.

Well, if this is the "older" etymology, it doesn't do it for me either since
it assumes that things like "growth" or "advancement" are inherently
desirable and good. They aren't with regard to religion/spirituality AFAIC
(or quite a few other things, for that matter). All the subsequent
complexities in the name of religion have done is clutter up the landscape
and make it harder for a person to make spiritual connections rather than
easier.

There seems to be a misunderstanding. The older one from 1432,
as I read it, merely means "a going on" (in time) or "action of walking
forward" (in space) without any implication of "better" attached to it.
That's why a statement for example like "In Western European societies,
a progression from Paganism to Monotheism can be observed" is a
valid one IMO.

What you oppose is the newer etymology from 1603 with all the implications
of "improvement", only commentable with an attitude of "Hell No!" we
certainly share. :)

Read "Spiritual Mentoring" by Judy Harrow.

Best way to describe it, it's kinda a "Gnostic Druid" type thing...

Which is the One Proof, Look up at Night, See It?
The Atomic Structure of the Body of God, that which is the One, the All Things
itself.
We live on but one particle of matter surrounding one Proton if you will, Atom
of the Body.

Zeus Above all Others.
Shiva Above All Others.
Yhvh Above All Others.

Understand if we live on but that which is part of a Physical God, then that
Physical God, is but a part of the Physical God, which is the "All Things"!
And Yet then again that God is but part of the One GOD which is the, "All
Things"!

Gnostic is better than Gorilla tape! To them, the world is the
Diabhall. :-) Christians seem to think in a similar way thinking that
the pleasures of the world all come from the Devil and that theiir
only true reward is in the next world.

It seems that only Druids are willing to deal with what *is* rather
than tilting all over with what *is not*.
