CAIRO (AFP) - Egypt told MP George Galloway he was persona
non grata on Friday after activists who joined him to send
an aid convoy to Gaza clashed with police.
But officials denied that they had deported the left-winger.
A foreign ministry official told Galloway he was no longer
welcome before he left Cairo airport for London, an AFP
reporter at the airport said.
The foreign ministry later issued a statement saying
Galloway would not be allowed to return to Egypt.
The decision came two days after activists with the Viva
Palestina convoy clashed with police in the port town of El-
Arish, 30 miles from the Gaza border.
They had been protesting an Egyptian decision to send some
of the convoy's trucks to Gaza through Israel.
Egypt allowed most of the convoy and Galloway to enter Gaza
after the clashes.
A spokeswoman with the Viva Palestina convoy said Galloway
had returned to Egypt earlier on Friday after hearing
reports that seven members of the convoy had been arrested.
Seven protesters were arrested during Tuesday's clashes, but
police swapped them for four policemen held by the
activists. A prosecutor in El-Arish later issued warrants
for the arrest of the seven.
Viva Palestina said Galloway and a companion were forced
into a van on the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing
and taken to Cairo airport.
"Galloway was officially deported from Cairo today (Friday),
when Egyptian plain-clothes police officers bundled him onto
a London plane," the statement said.
A security official said six police cars had waited for
Galloway at the border crossing and escorted him to Cairo.
Security and airport officials denied he was deported,
saying he left willingly.
Although it was not the first convoy led by Galloway to
deliver aid to Gaza, the arrival of the convoy early this
year came amid a bitter dispute between Egypt and the
organisers.
The convoy was held up for days in the Jordanian port town
of Aqaba after Egypt refused it entry through the southern
Sinai.
The convoy was forced to travel to the Syrian port of
Latakia and take a ferry to El-Arish on Egypt's
Mediterranean coast.
Egypt accused Galloway, who had once called for the
overthrow of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in a London
rally, of trying to embarrass the country, which has refused
to permanently open its Rafah border crossing with Gaza.
Israel has closed its border with Gaza to all but limited
supplies since the Islamist Hamas movement seized control of
the territory in 2007.

Egypt deports British lawmaker Galloway
Fri, 08 Jan 2010 14:00:14 GMT
British lawmaker George Galloway has been a vocal critic of
Israel and Egypt's attempt to continue the blockade of the
Gaza Strip.

Cairo has deported British lawmaker George Galloway,
following clashes between a Gaza-bound aid convoy he was
accompanying and Egyptian police.
The lawmaker was planning to return to Gaza via the Rafah
crossing early Friday when several Egyptian plainclothes
security forces detained him and bundled him into a plane
and flew him to London.
A spokeswoman for the convoy said police intervened when
Galloway and colleague Ron McKay arrived at the crossing.
"As soon as they emerged on to Egyptian soil, both men were
forcibly pushed into a van, refused exit and told that they
were leaving the country. They were then driven off in a
police convoy," the BBC quoted him as saying.
There are no comments from the Egyptian government on the
deportation.
On Tuesday, Egyptian police harshly confronted a protest by
Viva Palestina activists in the port of El-Arish, leaving
some 60 people injured and arresting a number of them.
The scuffle followed Cairo's refusal to allow aid vehicles
to enter the Palestinian Gaza Strip which has been under a
paralyzing Israeli blockade since 2007 making the convoy
take a big detour and delaying its arrival.
Despite restrictions imposed by Egyptian authorities, the
convoy finally managed to deliver nearly 200 aid trucks to
Gaza after a month-long journey.
Galloway, the Bow and Bethnal Green lawmaker, and his team
of international activists have sent three relief convoys
into the Palestinian territory.
Israel's move to keep border crossings with Gaza sealed off
is further reinvigorated by Egypt's refusal to open the
Rafah crossing, the only border terminal not in Tel Aviv's
control.
Furthermore, Cairo has recently started building a steel
wall on its border with the Gaza Strip to disrupt a network
of cross-border tunnels, through which the Palestinians have
been pushing in food, fuel and other essential necessities.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency Commissioner-
General, Karen Abu Zaid, has described the wall as more
dangerous than the Bar Lev Line built by Israel along the
eastern coast of the Suez Canal after it captured the Sinai
Peninsula from Egypt during the 1967 six-day war.

They wouldn't allow George Galloway to enter their country. They even tried
to get David Icke denied. Kook he may be but free speech isn't free unless
it's available to ALL. And I thought I would clarify I don't think Canada is
fascist, just the fascists who wouldn't let George Galloway in.

I care whenever free speech is denied to people, anywhere in the world. They
can elect whoever the hell they want, just like you guys in America, but as
long as they keep free speech.

Obviously you don't get it. When one person's free speech is taken away
everyone's is.
No, I get it, but you don't really seem to. It's not your country, it's
not Icke's country, it's the CANADIAN'S country, and they decide what to
do. So Canada doesn't want kooks and/or scam artists to come in. I can
see the logic behind their decision.

Canada isn't fascist and blocking someone who supports terrorist groups
isn't an expression of fascism.

George Galloway, a British parliamentarian who spends more time promoting
Hamas than representing his constituents, was not denied entry to Canada
because of his speech, but because of his campaign of providing material aid
to a terrorist organization.
Canada has had quite enough of people trying to incite civil unrest, and we
don't generally welcome people who work for groups that promote it.
We don't allow David Irving in either, but that's because he's demonstrated
a habit of lying to immigration officers. And that, along with various
other convictions, led Australia to bar him entry as "Not of Good
Character". The US still lets him in (to work) even though he claims to
have engaged in activities that other people get long prison terms for, and
even though his supporters are now trying to kill each other at his "book
signings".
-pk
Galloway was denied entry to Canada because of his active and material
support of a listed terrorist organization.
Yes, you can provide platitudes, or you can deal with Mr. Galloway's work
providing financial and material aid to organizations listed as terrorist
organizations.
Canada has some experience with people importing their violent causes into
our country, and we don't want them here. We've had enough of the deaths
they cause.
Are you going to claim that beatings and murder are supported expressions of
free speech?
Seon, you obviously don't get it.
*No-one anywhere* has free speech.
No country is obliged to allow entry to visitors who will put its citizens
at risk.
Icke was allowed entry for his book tour - the issue was that a good number
of his statements can be regarded as anti-semitic hate speech, and the
purpose of his visit was to sell the materials that contain these
statements. However, Immigration decided that he didn't pose that much of
a threat, possibly because he is so hard to take seriously for more than a
few seconds.
It's apparently the view of the Government that Mr. Galloway's material
support for armed, violent organizations is another thing entirely.
Canada has bitter experience with guests bringing their causes with them;
this has led to beatings, mass murder, and bombings. You may not be aware
(and I'm sure Seon is not ) of the Air India Flight 182 bombing; 329 people
were killed by people who'd brought their cultural disagreements with them
to Canada.
We've had enough of that, thank you very much. Mr. Galloway can take his
views elsewhere.

So what if they were "Anti Semitic" it's called free speech. If you don't
like it move to Communist North Korea. The point was fascists tried to get
him banned. And also there is no Semitic race. The Bible is just a bunch of
fairy tales. There was no "Jewish race" and the Jews were never in Egypt.
They were just some tribe who made up a bunch of stories.
Stop believing in fairy tales. You already lie about George Galloway. And
also david Icke is peaceful and supports a non violence resistance.

Well, let's see. You called the "fascists", and that's pretty far over

People use it for someone who hates the Jews. But then they should say anti

I don't believe in fairy tales (anymore) and let's face it, all religion is
based on myth. That doesn't just go for Pagan religions. The Christian
religion started with a bunch of stories floating around about Jesus
(probably borrowed from other myths), Islam was obviously made up by
Muhammad so he could conquer land and Judaism was made up by a group of
blokes from some tribe who wanted to invade a land and decided to lie and
say God told them to invade it. Religion is the oldest scam in human history
and if you believe there is a Jewish race you fell for it.

No, most people don't want radicals of any kind to be allowed to enter

country, anytime they want? How about anarchists, etc? Someone who is
trying to organize terror attacks? There is a limit, right?

You figured out that religion is bullshit, finally, but it doesn't
matter if there is a "jewish race" if they are thought of as a group all
the time, which they are. There might as well be one, since the jew
haters act as if there is anyway.

Are you going to start dealing with reality?
> George Galloway doesn't support any of those.
Through his material support of groups that do, he certainly does. His
actions and associates speak much more convincingly than his denials - or
yours.
The Egyptians don't want him, either, for much of the same reasons.
> He has every right to express his free speech
In point of fact, he does not.
His rights of expression do not extend past the borders of his own nation,
and are limited there.
Who gave *you* the right to impose your values on others?
Isn't that just as "fascist" as what you object to?
> and by supporting those fascist's who denied him entry you are showing
> what a fascist you are.
Free speech is a theoretical concept that does not exist in practice
anywhere, and never has. That is the reality you do not seem to grasp.
It's never existed.
All nations have the right to protect their borders and their citizens.
Canada has direct experience with people bringing cultural disagreements
with them and causing strife in the form of violence and murder. We don't
want people who bring that with them. Don't like it? Don't come here.
If you want to go claiming people are "fascist", consider what *you* are
trying to impose on others.
-pk
Could you please read what was written, and respond to that?
I didn't say that Mr. Galloway supports terrorism. I said that he has
provided material support for armed, violent organizations, which happen to
be classified as terrorist groups by a number of countries, quite possibly
by yours.

By the way, Seon, free speech does not exist anywhere on the planet. No
nation has ever allowed it.
And are we to understand that you don't care about mass murder, and the
"free speech" that led directly to it?

Meanwhile, in reality, what you are ranting about is not what I wrote.
-pk
You don't understand what fascism is, then.
There are no nations that permit free speech, and there have never been.
Further, prescribing limits to acceptable speech is not the same as "hating
free speech". For example, logically, your "position" with regards to
speech means that you support the creation and distribution of child porn.
The world is a lot more complex than you apparently understand.
You really should learn something about the issues you pretend to support.

Of course, that's America.

If your talking about the holocaust there is a difference between inciting

What makes you think I'm retired? I work 40 hours a week, just not from
9-5. LOng ago, before you were born, I worked jobs where I had to get up
at 6-7AM, and it literally about killed me. I never felt so bad in my
life. I swore after that, I would only work afternoons or nights.
Fighting my internal clock made getting up for grade and high school a
nightmare for me. I was sick all the time. When I went to college,
afternoons and night, suddenly I wasn't sick anymore, and felt great.
Funny how that worked.
I Always wanted to stay up all night. When I was a baby, I would stay up
all night and then try to sleep all day. My folks would keep me awake
all day to try to get me to sleep, and it never really worked. I
remember thinking one night when something happened to make us stay up
until 5AM, "Why aren't we doing this every night?" It felt right to stay
up until dawn. Still does.

Any government that endorses censorship might not be fascist but they sure
don't support a free society.

You only read the articles by people who hate George Galloway because of his
political views. It is smear, that's all. Yes he does send supplies to Hamas
but it is so they will give those supplies to the people of the gaza strip.
He wouldn't have to do that if Israel would allow aid through.
People wouldn't elect him if he was. He even disagrees with 911 truthers.
Because it implies you are against the Jews because of their "race" and
against anyone in the Semitic race.
That's strange. I wonder if it's something to do with your internal clock. I
probably got the word wrong. But it's when you go on holiday to say Scotland
and your just not use to the hours and sleep during the day when you think
it's night. So maybe it has something to do with that?
Things are so special in Seonland.

Yes, sure, blame the jews for it.
Bush got elected, twice.
A lot of them hate Arabs too, but you know, it's kind of an "enemy of my
enemy" thing.
No, my normal wake time is from around 12 noon until about 5AM. Anything
that goes against that be more than a couple hours either way screws me
all up. I get very sleepy when I go out in the sunlight in the morning,
it's almost impossible for me to stay awake, unless I'm doing something.
Just sitting there, and I'm gone..

I'm not blaming the Jews because Zionists are not the Jewish people. Just
like Republicans are not the American people. They are Jews against Zionism.
So that being explained, Israel and Egypt are the one's blocking
humanitarian aid into the gaza strip. Why can't they just check it and make
sure it is humanitarian aid? You know like checkpoints.
Yeah but a all powerful "news" origination was behind him. Twice. Plus Rush
Limbaugh and talk radio. When powerful people like that get behind a
politician the sheeple are going to stop thinking for themselves and elect
who the people in their living room tell them to elect. But of course you
will probably laugh at me and go "the kookside is calling"
Well I have nothing against the Jewish people or the Arab people. What I
hate is religious fundamentalism. I hate it when Jews say God gave Israel
this land and we should expel all non Jews, I hate Muslims who want to take
over the world and impose Sharia Law on all of us (including Jizya) or
Christian fundamentalists who bomb abortion clinics and want to bring on the
end times. That's one of the reasons I don't like religion btw that and the
whole "Were the one true path to God" thing.
What if you travel to another country, will it change?
They're trying to put pressure on the Pals to get their act together. I
personally think they should let aid go through, and make a very big
show out of it going through. And say outright, "One rocket, and it
stops again!" And of course, the many times multiplied retaliation when
the rockets come, and they will, it's as certain as the sun rising.
Seon. Please, stop and think for a second. Who is president now?
The muslims taking over the world is very unlikely to happen. Ever, but
especially in your lifetime.
You're talking about jet lag, a temporary thing. This isn't anything
like that. It's a daytime/nightime thing forever thing. The sun rises,
and sets at about the same local time everywhere. Basically, I do the
same thing as a vampire, going to sleep when the sun comes up, I just
don't get into a coffin, and get up in the early afternoon.
Does the sun rise at 5 PM in Australia? I don't think so.

If they say that they won't have to wait very long. See I criticize the
islamonazi group hamas as well.
Obaaaama but I was trying to explain how Bush got elected and why people
voted for him. But Obaaama is different! (obviously, that was sarcasm)
But they will continue to try to and hurt innocent people (the extremists
that is) but I don't see it happening this century. Not as long as they are
people who will stand up to radical Islam.
I never said Australia but I mean if you go to another country and get used
to its sleeping time will you be able to change? I know a lot of night owls
though I guess some people's bodies just like going to sleep early and some
like staying awake.
If there's a nuke attack, I think the result will be a lot more than
"stand up" to radical Islam. I could see things getting very bad, very
quickly, if people don't control themselves.
That's jet lag. I would soon be back on my 5AM bedtime schedule.

Same here. I really hope it doesn't come to that but like you I can see the
anger a lot of Americans will feel and the desire to nuke the country that
supplied the terrorists who nuked them. Your right people just need to
control themselves and stop the madness. But sadly religious people can't
stand the fact that people like us choose not to belong to their insane
religion.
And also as I said I guess we are all wired in different ways (regarding
your body's clock).
