Movie: The Greater Glory: A Viva Mexico Movie???

Wow! Looking at the reviews, it looks like "The Greater Glory" is one
of those La Raza Unida / L.U.L.A.C. inspired movies that glorifies old
Mexico as a whole.

Do Americans want to watch a movie that is about the historical
corruption of and hardships of life in Mexico? Has anything changed?

Just my opinion.

How is that different from all the movies that
"glorified" old England and old Scotland and old
Japan and old Ireland?

The difference is that J Yo and Duke and Patrick will start slobbering
over it...the film is in fact, about those who opposed the Mexican
government's efforts to secularize the country in the 1920's. In other
words, it glorifies those who wanted to be ruled under Catholicism.
The Catholic cable channels are hyping this film like they were ACCESS
HOLLYWOOD

Hollywood is filled with genius writers that work at a level well
above that of the pedestrian far conservatives. Thanks to Hollywood we
have a black president and that is only a sample among many
achievements.

The cleverness of that movie is that it will generate empathy from two
sides:

- Andy Garcia is secular: Liberals will love that.

- He fights for freedom and against government intrusion:
Conservatives will love that.

Again: You far conservs don't even realize the complex strategies at
work. See for instance the pro-Sarah movie. You people are really a
joke.

Went and saw it today. It looked like a thinly veiled commentary on
what conservative Christians feel to be their religious freedoms being
stepped upon by the state. In one scene, Andy Garcia states that he
is "fighting for religious freedoms". I hardly think so. The fight
was for Catholicism, not for religious freedoms. I use the example
that they were not fighting for the right for Mormons to be able to
practice their religion freely.

Every time the movie showed the Catholics being persecuted by the
Feds, all I could think of was some idiot standing up and yelling
"Yeah! That's just like how Obama is trying to kill babies!", or
"Yeah! That's right! That's just like Obama telling us it's OK to
let those gays get married!".

I didn't get a sense that this movie was actually about Mexico at
all. It might well have even been a rallying call with the far right
saying "Look. If they can do it in Mexico, we can do it here."

It is like Norm of Cheers discovering some beer-guzzling fellow
elsewhere, he embraced him: "People are the same everywhere". There
was also a Norm-like heavy guy, Pepe, in a Cancun bar where Sam was
transferred.
