Does anyone know anything about St Christina of Persia, other than her manner
of death?
All I've managed to find about her is that she was whipped to persuade her to
give up the Christian faith, and when she refused, her persecutors carried on
beating her until she died.
She died some time in the 6th century, when Christianity was a minority faith
in Persia (most worshipped Mazda).
In the 7th century Muslims conquered Persia, and persecution of Christians
eased off, but they remained a minority -- the majority switched to Islam.
The interesting thing is that in the 6th century I believe most Persian
Christians were Nestorian, Yet St Christina was commemorated in Rome, Antioch
and Constantinople alike.
