The Catholic Church, indeed the world, has been blessed with the
selection of Bishop Ratzinger as the new pontiff, Pope Benedict XVI.
May he be as wise a man, and as worthy a man, as Pope John Paul II.

I've always maintained that the pope was a nazi. How right I was.

If I were craptolic, I'd be real proud that a former member of Hitler Youth
is now the leader of my religion.

This is what happens in a theocracy. The least threatening and most
status quo conservatives get put in office.

A man who swore his allegiance to Hitler! The voice of god on
earth now comes from the mouth of a Hitler Youth!

Anyone wanting proof that christianity is morally bankrupt,
completely wicked, and evil now has it.

Interestingly, a quick search on Wikipedia shows that the last few
popes to be called Benedict were known as fairly reformist. I wonder
if that's the signal Ratzinger is trying to send with his choice of
papal name?

Cardinal Ratzinger was the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the
Faith, aka the Inquisition. He played a significant role in the suppression
of Liberation Theology and the silencing of theologian Hans Kung. Many
American Catholics have written off the Vatican as hopelessly out of touch,
and I don't think they see this election as any kind of encouraging sign.

Oh yes, and Cardinal Ratzinger is a big fat idiot, and you're a mindless
tool, IBen.

Don't be silly; those people never learn. I remember the first (in my
lifetime) massive child-molestation scandal. Everyone said that the
church would have to change after that. Lo and behold, less than 20
years later, it happens again and everyone acts surprised. It doesn't
matter what this guys does to the faithful. They are the poverbial
"some people" who "you can fool all the time".

Because the catholic church is bent on destroying my people.

Where's the smear? He swore his allegiance to Hitler. That's a
fact, not a smear.

> What do you think a Christian is and why?

A christian is an evil person who wants to impose his own will
on others by claiming his own will is god's will. I think that
because I observe the actions of christians.

> Are you Christian?

Of course not. I know there is a difference between right and
wrong.

It is when you are sorry for something. For example, if the
catholic church were sorry for supporting Hitler and the
destruction of European Jews, it would not now elect a Nazi
pope.

> Do you know the significance of Jesus' ministry?

About the same as all other myths and fairy tales.

Today the catholic church proved it was not based on
divinely-inspired teachings. If it were, it could not be so
corrupt as to elect a Nazi to be the voice of god on earth.

Though he may be next in line for St Peter's throne, Joe Ratzinger is no
spring chicken. He was born in Bavaria in 1927 so is only six years younger
than John Paul II. However, he shows few signs of slowing down. He has been
the Vatican's top doctrinal officer since 1981 and is a recondite
intellectual, fluent in four languages. His intellectual searching began as
a seminarian in Nazi Germany where he rounded out the experience with a
brief fling in the Hitler Youth, though he was never a member of the Nazi
Party. He was later conscripted into the German Army from which he
eventually deserted before ending the war as an American POW.

Referring to Ratzinger as "very gentle" is like calling Hitler a nice guy.

Enjoy wearing your brown shirts and arm bands as members of the RATZI
Party. RATZI will make sure there's a lot of goosestepping at the
Vatican while the Badenweiler March plays in the background.

If Hitler were alive today, he'd be jumping for joy for RATZI's

Those who thought that the Church would suddenly approve abortion & birth
control or that suddenly seminary doors would be thrown wide open for women
if another pope had been elected were dreaming in Technicolor. I don't
really think it's going to affect our lives in North America since our
priests do pretty much what they like and Rome be damned. That's not likely

As an atheist I am very pleased they have appointed another arch
conservative as Pope.
If they had elected a more liberal man who might bring the church into
more progressive ways it would make the choice between staying with
the church or abandoning it less clear.
The more reactionary and out of touch with modern thought the church
is, the speedier will be its eventual death.
The last thing I or any other enemy of the church would want is a
church that adapts and changes with the times - such a church would
linger longer and the world suffer longer because of it.

I wish with all my heart and mind for a world free of the church.
I will not live to see it's demise - but I can hope to have the joy of
seeing it move into it's terminal decline.

You may say I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one.

Peace, Mark.

If you believe in "seperation of church and state," then why are you
commenting on what the Church does? I guess you believe that your
seperation rule should work only one way. You can interfer with
religion, but don't let anyone of religion interfer with your statist

Because most christian sects want to omit the separation and work openly
towards that goal. They actively work towards passing civil laws that oppose
anything they don't believe in.
History and faith based countries today shows what happens when they gain
power.

In the christian world in Calvin's time you could be an example of the best
christian in the village for your beliefs and burned at the stake for them
one town over.

2. How is commenting interfereing? We are discussing (across several

The RCC like the Roman Empire which previously gave it birth, is in
decline & fall. Europeans are ignoring it. N. Amercan Catholics are
moving towards a new Reformation as a reaction to the Hierarchial
pimpery.

Latin Americans are converting to Evangelistic Protestantism.

Our new 78 year old Pope will hasten the decline and fall of the RCC.
Especially as his Nazi youth led him on to be Head of the Inquisition.
Not quite the same as the Borgia popes but just as scandalous to
christians. His views on plastics technology would be a sick joke
except that they condemn millions to a painful death.

Pro-life? He will be castrating altar boys next. That will improve
their asset value to very male-oriented church.

The history of the papacy.
In particular find out why the Vatican is such a small city state today and
what happened in 1800's when the pope started another inquisition.
The history of the RCC.
When the majority of the world favored slavery they supported it and did not
renounce it until after the majority rejected it.
The same can be said about any major change in the church. It was not until
grass roots movements became mainstream that they changed.

It is a long-standing tradition (by now, anyway) for a pope to pick a

This, coming from the jackass, that can't wait to see "Political
Correctness" removed.

That is what you posted, right ring kisser? Are you now trying to
change your tune?

Oh, that's right, being rude is a requirement for the Kathylick Krutch,
as long as it's Kathylicks, being rude to others. But it's not allowed
in the other direction.

Well, being politically incorrect here, ain't that just to fucking bad
for you.
