Dear Bishop Daniel.

Why don't you just join the orthodox Church? Why pretend to be orthodox
when you actually can be Orthodox. Why pretend to be in the Eastern
Orthodox tradition in your own mind when yo can be in the Eastern
Orthodox tradition in reality? Why are you encouraging other people to
join something fake when you and they can join something real?

Alternately, if you are just making your own relgion out of bits and
pieces of religions you have read about or experienced or seen on TV or
heard on the radio, a time honored American tradition, why pretend to be
Orthodox when you are not? With thousands of home made religions, and
Baltimore is especially full of them, why must you pretend to be other
than what you are?

Or, alternately, why not just join us. Ask yourself what there is about
Orthodoxy that so draws you to our Faith, and then ask yourself why you
feel you will not be welcome. Then, make the decision. Every boy takes
his own time leaving the land of make believe for reality, I know as a
mother.

With regards to Baltimore and Dundalk,

Do you really have to ask these rhetorical questions? The answer is
evident -- he's running a scam. And he has to answer to no one. Notice
that he's promoted himself to "bishop" since the last time he posted

Daniel,

You're a fraud. The thread you started a couple of weeks back shows
that you were merely claiming to be a priest and an abbot at that time
and not a bishop.

Here it is

Two new Orthodox parishes to open in Baltimore
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.religion.christian.east-orthodox/browse_thread/thread/aceb8a2095b1d1b9/fbb692d64dac06f2?q=garguillio&lnk=nl&

All the links in that thread show that you are merely claiming to be a
priest.

The links also show that you and your Archbishop are riding the
wedding gravy train and cashing in on performing gay and lesbian
weddings.

You claim on one of your webpages to be "traditional" and lament that
others are not keeping the faith. And yet here you are making money
out of homosexual weddings. Sorry, but who could take you or your
Church seriously.

"Our clergy not only are willing to perform ceremonies for same-sex
couple, we encourage it and have experience performing them!

"Whether you want a traditional, contemporary, spiritual, religious,
or dignified civil ceremony, we are more than happy to presiding at
gay weddings, holy unions, or commitment ceremonies."

"Father Daniel Garguillo - Father Garguillo engages primarily in
pastoral counseling ministry, so his approach to weddings is very
comforting, welcoming and warm. Although a bit soft spoken, the love
of God really shines through in the ceremonies Father performs."

What of your own marriage, Daniel? Are you in a same-sex marriage?

It is my understanding that SCOBA does not control anything, it just has
meetings? And why would you consider the EP or SCOBA semi-Orthodox?
And who are "other" modernist semi-Orthodox? Could you list them?

Which one? All of the following are not in union and claim to be "the
true Orthodox Church"...

The one bully simply called The Orthodox Church? Or is it the Genuine
Orthodox Church, Macedonian Orthodox Church, Russian Old Believers,
the Matthewites, the Makarians, ROCA, the Russian True Orthodox
Church, Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kiev Patriarchate), Ukrainian
Autocephalous Orthodox Church, Autonomous Ukrainian Orthodox Church in
America Belarusian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, Bulgarian
Alternative Synod, Orthodox Church in Italy. Montenegrin Orthodox
Church. Turkish Orthodox Church, Orthodox Catholic Churches of
America or maybe the monophysite Orthodox churches of the Copts or
Syrians. The Nestorians, perhaps?

Which one of the above is real and not fake? More importantly how can
you tell? What is the rule and authority for the only one that can
make the claim?

Core group of people in Washington , DC used to switch off between
Bulgarian synods and when I was in Sofia I noticed that the ROCOR was
even running their own Bulgarian synod. All valid, my opinion. All

Now this one I tried to find. I went to church daily when in Montenegro
a few years ago and yet all that was open and visible at that time
(before the referendum) was the SOC in Montenegro, also present at the
monastery in Cetinje where I heard there was a Montenegrin Orthodox
Church but .we ran out of time before the bus was going back from there
to Kotor. Kotor, as you may know, is divided between those who attend
Roman Catholic services and Orthodox services, but many of the people
there would not attend an SOC service. I heard there was a new church
in Budva so I went there. What I found was that the new church was a
former Roman Catholic historic church inside the walls (which are
walkable on top, like Dubrovnik) on the upper part of the city. There
was a wonderful icon painter covering the interior walls with
traditional frescoes in a great Balkan iconographic sequence. Gotta go
back just to see the finished church!
> Turkish Orthodox Church,
been. Someone from the EP actually showed us where it was (but didn't
enter). I can see their point. If one enters an RC or Protestant
church in Istanbul, there are services in and booklets or books with
services in Turkish, making the message audible, at least, and visible,
at least, to the Turkish people. Unfortunately, the Orthodox Word is
not being spread in Turkish anywhere else and the leader of the TOC has
passed on. Don't know if they ordained another head of the TOC

> Orthodox Catholic Churches of America or maybe the monophysite Orthodox churches of the Copts or

not Orthodox. There are some really beautiful churches, like the Polish
National Catholic Church, which used to, maybe still does , meet in a
chapel at the Washington Cathedral, but they aren't Orthodox.

Most of the real ones are obvious, whether or not there are rival
jurisdictionalist claims. Three or four Bulgarian, Russian, Ukrainian,
etc. churches? The jurisdictionalism will cease and we will be one
again. But there is a big difference between Churches with a lineage of
Orthodoxy and those, that were formed just to be another religion in
America. The fact that people are human and they argue, all the while
caring about keeping their Church pure and holy shows that Orthodoxy is
one Faith. Just in the past few years, one HUGE jurisdictional problem
has been more or less solved. The Matthewites, the Sergianists and the
ROCOR got together and in the process recognized the OCA, the BOC, the
RoumanianOC, the SOC and etc.while verifying the autocephally of the OCA
and showing their place in the Church without creating permanent rival
synods. Some problems will eventually solve themselves, like the EP.
Life is good and we are all, even if we fight like humans, Orthodox and
one Church. But you know that. And, I suspect you know which of your
partial list above are problematic and which are easy and make you lots
of friends, and which might make you a couple enemies but are still
Orthodox.

I personally want the best for your soul. So, even though I am a big
sinner, I hope you don't mind me caring about you and caring about both
your temporal holding and final resting places

PS. I still harbor (pun intended) a desire to traipse through every
neighborhood in Baltimore and make a photographic record of each and
every storefront church, tracking down each and every traditional and
self-appointed pastor (and I do mean that gender neutral and in some
cases gender plural) just because religion in Baltimore _is_ so unique.
I attended a storefront Orthodox Church myself one of the two long
periods while I lived there along with frequent visits to all Orthodox
jurisdictions.

All canonical Orthodox churches consider homosexual activities to be
sinful, and all interpret sacred scripture as confirming this. The
Orthodox Church does not condemn those who take up their cross of
homosexuality and conform their lives to Christ's, but praises them
whose pure behavior inspires all those around them to holiness.

I am not who you suppose I am.

Daniel's archbishop Michael Seneco cohabits with his male partner.

http://www.washblade.com/2007/7-20/news/national/10934.cfm

Rev. Michael Seneco, the gay presiding bishop of the North American
Old Catholic Church, said he hopes O’Brien will not bar gay students
from joining the school.

“I think that it’s absurd that any one fact of a person automatically
should blankly disqualify them from any service to the people,” Seneco
said. “It’s like saying people with red hair shouldn’t be chefs.”

Seneco, whose church broke from Roman Catholicism during the First
Vatican Council and is comparatively more liberal, challenged
O’Brien’s handling of gay issues.

He said the archbishop was wrong to say gay men are unfit to become
priests.

“In order to be a priest, you have to love people, accept people and
forgive people for who they are,” Seneco said. “None of those are
skills that are reserved only for masculine, heterosexual men.”

Seneco, who lives with his partner in Washington, also opposed O’Brien
describing same-sex attractions as “homosexual inclinations.”

As a aficionado of the storefront church phenomenon in Baltimore, and
the creative credentialing of the same, yo are in numerous and
fascinating company. Now that I've had a chance to visit some of your
many web pages, would you be so kind as to explain the Dr. credentials
that you append to your seminary and paranormal postings and websites?
What is your doctorate in? Where did you yourself and your partner, the
Archbishop of the pseudo Roman Catholic side of your old catholic order,
study?

I'm really impressed with your ability to flinga da lingo of not one
but two religions in order to self legitimize your own. I was surprised
to note that you conduct both pseudo Uniate as well as pseudo Orthodox
services.

We do not "cater" to gays and lesbians, but simply accept them as the
children of God that they are.

As an Orthodox Monk, I am celibate.

By "your archbishop", I suppose you are referring to Presiding

***Al's public use of derogatory language to refer to the former
Metropolitan is not something that Orthodox spirituality and
discipline would enjoin upon us. He displays a fundamental lack of
respect in doing so, besides being a gossip. "There's the case of the
OCA Metropolitan known in some circles as 'TwinkleToes'". Oh, is that
so? In what circles? What wholesome and godly circles would anyone
want to be moving in that would so casually dismiss a fine man who
served the OCA so well throughout his life? Al's attitude is not
representative of anything good, or authentically Orthodox. It's
really the very antithesis of what it is to be Orthodox and to live
life in an Orthodox manner. God gave a commandment to the Jews, "Thou
shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people", and there
is no revoking of this commandment either by Christ, the Church, or
any of the Fathers and saints. Gossip is sin in private, and the
Church considers it to be more so when it's done in public.

Al's attitude toward homosexuality is not in accord with Orthodox
teaching. Fr. Thomas Hopko sum it up nicely, "According to Orthodox
Church Tradition, Christians are redeemed sinners. They are human
beings who have been saved from sickness and sin, delivered from the
devil and death by God's grace through faith in Jesus by the Holy
Spirit's power: "and such were some of you." (1 Cor. 6:10) They are
baptized into Christ and sealed with the Spirit in order to live God's
life in the Church. They witness to their faith by regular
participation in liturgical worship and eucharistic communion,
accompanied by continual confession, repentance and the steadfast
struggle against every form of sin, voluntary and involuntary, which
attempts to destroy their lives in this world and in the age to come.
The homosexual Christian is called to a particularly rigorous battle.
His or her struggle is an especially ferocious one. It is not made any
easier by the mindless, truly demonic hatred of those who despise and
ridicule those who carry this painful and burdensome cross; nor by the
mindless, equally demonic affirmation of homosexual activity by its
misguided advocates and enablers."

Why Al displays such a mindless, truly demonic hatred is maybe known
only to God, but experience shows that those who despise and ridicule
others burdened with homosexuality are very often running from it
within themselves. The spectacle of a defrocked deacon who is known
for his slander, lies, and calumny calling a revered member of the
clergy "TwinkleToes" in public is a sad one, made even sadder since
it's so indicative of an obsessive struggle with homosexuality that
has yielded little but bitterness. It's wrong. It's sinful, and it's
not what the Orthodox Church expects of its faithful children. Al's
attitude is condemned by the Orthodox Church, which has a much more
realistic understanding of human frailty and human-divine
potentiality.

Pray for Al, even as he spits such evil venom at good Orthodox
hierarchs.

I am not who you suppose I am.

My dear Child,

You may be too young to have experienced such things but any
registered nurse or doctor can tell you that sodomy, the frequent
insertion of the penis into an anus, can bring on some very nasty
medical problems over the years. Before you "marry" gay couples do
you counsel them on this danger? It should be your duty to do so,
just as you would counsel them on the long term dangers of alcohol or
cigarettes. Not a pleasant topic maybe, but one which you, as a gay
marriage celebrant, ought to be taking seriously.

You mentioned counseling to warn gay participants of the medical dangers of
homosexual congress; do you provide that same counseling to prospective
altar boys? Is that same counseling provided to seminarians?

With California passing the law allowing gay marriages, I have to wonder how
long it will be before NAMBLA members are given the same legal standing as
adult gays.

Dear Daniel,

Sonmething written by a Catholic Melkite on the quite different
approach of Catholics and Orthodox to apostolic succession. It
explains why your succesion could possible be accepted by the
Catholics but would be quite rejected by the Orthodox. It's well

The Orthodox (Cyprianite) and Catholic (Augustinian) Theology
of Sacraments and Apostolic Succession outside the Church

by Neil Foley a Catholic Melkite
________________________________________

I apologize if the following is rambling or seen as not completely
relevant to the points being debated here, but I perceive the
arguments as going in opposing circles and ignoring several basic
considerations, on the part of both my Catholic and Orthodox brethren.
The theological praxis of Catholics and Orthodox as to the validity of
orders and the dependent issue of the validity of sacraments differs
significantly. That is fact and we can discuss, debate, and disagree
over whether the other's stance is or is not rational, but it won't
change the fact that it is what it is. The resolution of such will
only occur, if it ever does and hopefully it ultimately will, in
circles more august than this revered forum.

There are basically two theories of apostolic succession and, in most
instances, the application of the theory held by a given Church
effectively
determines the validity accorded to claimed presbyteral and episcopal
orders and, ipso facto, the validity of sacraments administered by
those claiming to possess valid orders, whether presbyteral and/or
episcopal (putting aside issues as to form and intent, since if there
is no validity to the orders of the sacrament's minister, other
considerations are of no consequence to either Church).

If the orders claimed to be possessed are themselves invalid, the
sacraments derived from him who claims to possess orders will, in
turn, be invalid if the sacrament is one which requires administration
by an ordained minister - essentially any except baptism in extremis
in both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches and marriage in the Eastern
Churches, Catholic and Orthodox.

The Augustinian theory................
..................................................... effectively
holds that valid episcopal ordination confers an indelible character
that is not affected by any schismatic or heretical act or
excommunication taken in response thereto or for any other reason.
Accordingly, a validly ordained priest once validly ordained to the
episcopate retains his capacity to exercise that order, though he may
have been deprived juridically of the office or jurisdiction by which
he performed episcopal acts. The latter considerations affect only the
licitness of his acts.

The Cyprianic theory..................
.................................................... effectively holds
that a valid episcopal ordination is affected by schismatic or
heretical acts and by
excommunication taken in response thereto or for any other reason.
Accordingly, a validly ordained priest once validly ordained to the
episcopate retains his capacity to exercise that order only so long as
he continues in communion with the jurisdiction under the authority of
which he was ordained to the episcopate (or such other jurisdiction
into which he may have subsequently been accepted) and is exercising
the office or jurisdiction by which he has the right to perform those
acts. There is no distinction made as to licitness.

The Catholic Church adheres to the Augustinian theory; the Orthodox
Churches to the Cyprianic theory, (although they have exercised
oekonomia in application of it to instances in which schismatic bodies
have returned to communion).

Frankly, the Augustinian theory has been or certainly has become a
thorn in the side of the Catholic Church. It effectively assures that
all manner of independent hierarchs, both those who pursue their
perceived vocation with spiritual and intellectual honesty and those
who are episcopi vagante in the most perjorative connotation accorded
to the phrase, can sleep at night with at least a modicum of assurance
that they possess valid episcopal orders, unless form or intent are at
issue. The time-honored practice in the so-called "independent"
Catholic and Orthodox movements of garnering multiple episcopal
consecrations or, subsequently, being re-consecrated sub conditione is
effectively a means of leveraging the Augustinian theory.

Most such hierarchs operate on the premise that "more is better" or
"there has to be at least one good one here somewhere". With most
having an episcopal genealogy that traces back through an average of
30 ancestral lines of succession, from a combination of dissident
Latin Catholic, Eastern and Oriental Catholic, Eastern and Oriental
Orthodox hierarchs, they can feel reasonably secure. Those lines which
cannot be proven valid because there is serious doubt as to the
validity of one actor (e.g., the so-called Melkite-Aneed Line) can and
do feel comfortably buffered by Duarte and Thuc Lines.

People sometimes point to subsequent acts by bishops of these
"Churches" which break faith with Catholic doctrine and erroneously
perceive these as breaking the line of apostolic succession. For
instance, no bishop, regardless of the validity of his episcopal
orders, can validly ordain a
woman. But, that he did so would not invalidate his subsequent
ordination of a man, with proper intent and according to proper form.
So, it is possible to go rather far afield theologically yet still
retain apostolic succession.

None of this is to say that all such entities have valid orders or
sacraments, the Liberal Catholic Church is certainly suspect, but an
inordinate amount of effort has to be put into tracing and verifying
or rejecting such when presbyters or hierarchs of these Churches are
received into communion.

The Orthodox Churches, relying on the canonically legal status of the
hierarch conferring orders (his status in communion with a recognized
jurisdiction to which the Church accords canonical status), have a
much simpler task before them in assessing validity and, since they do
not make the distinction of licitness, the end result is clear-cut.

Given its historical ties to the Cyprianic theory, it stands to reason
that the Orthodox would not accord validity to Catholic orders or
sacraments and that any do so must be seen as an exercise of charity
on their part, applying a measure of recognition to the common
historical origins of
Catholicity and Orthodoxy. We, as Catholics, can dislike the fact that
all do not choose to do so, but it is not our place to impose upon
others our
theological precepts and require that they adopt them.

The potentially most ironic consideration here is that, applying the
Augustinian theory, the Catholic Church would in some instances likely
have
to accept the validity of presbyteral and episcopal orders, and,
consequently, sacraments, of "independent Orthodox" (and by that I do
not mean those essentially mainstream Orthodox Churches which are
typically termed "non-canonical" or "of iregular status", but those of
the so-called
"independent movement") whom the Orthodox themselves would,
rightfully, never deem to be of their Communion, under even the most
liberal of interpretations.

My apologies to those in whom I have induced narcolepsy.

That is not the Orthodox position whatsoever. It is a Roman corruption
which has infected the semi-Orthodox, its origins being in Western
proscriptions against perceived openess to homosexuality in Hellenic
and Middle Eastern cultures.

You know this already, but fear overcoming the comfort you receive

I find your misuse of Orthodox and Roman Catholic traditions and
terminology somewhat variable for someone who espouses "Romanist"
proscriptions as heretical and schismatic. They reasons why Orthodox
consider Roman Catholicism as heterodox, the correct term, do not
include those. For example of your variable terminological confusion,
"My child" is Roman Catholic usage, not commonly what a real Orthodox

Dear Daniel,

The fact that you continue to utilize clerical titles you have not
earned renders your actions against unsuspecting Christians as probably
fraudulent. The fact is, no evidence being presented to the contrary
except for your own statement that your credentials are honorary (but
without any information concerning who or what honored you for whatever
studies and accomplishments), it is clear that you have not been
ordained except by yourself, that you are trading on the innocence of
the unaware and the culpability of the aware in the commission of your
fraud, and that you have complete, utter and life-threatening disdain
for real Orthodox ordinations, real Orthodox theological training, real
Eastern Orthodoxy, and instead are threatening your own soul as well as
the souls of the gullible and the culpable.

There's nothing "Romanist" about those proscriptions. They're
subscribed to with one voice by *all* canonical Orthodox.

Same-sex unions, simply, are an abomination. They're against not only
Church teaching, but against Natural Law. What the *civil* law wants
to do about this is up to the civil law, but the Church law shouldn't
be so accommodating.

Just as I expected: A *protestant* statement regarding the Holy

Scripture. No, my son, the Holy Scripture is to be interpreted by the
Sacred Traditions of the Church and the Bishops as successors to the
Holy Apostles.

Your argument is at an end, this post having "outed" you (pun

intended) as a non-Orthodox protestant layperson attempting to stir up
trouble among the brethren.

In Peace,

+Daniel

The fact that you will not even attempt to varify my credentials shows
that you know i your heart that they are authentic, and, sadly, fear
the truth.

My Son,

My *religious* credentials are perfectly in order and not
"honorary" (that being in reference to my *academic* qualifications).
They are easily verifiable for those honestly interested (My current
Incardination being with Presiding Archbishop Michael V. Seneco of the
North American Old Catholic Church (Ancient Orthodox Eparchy):
http://www.naoldcatholic.com or 888-650-1817). That does not mean that
you are in any way bound to respect them, especially since you are NOT
Orthodox.

My Dear Son,

The Orthodox Study Bible is my Bible of choice as well, and you are,
as usual, misinterpreting the notes to fit your own homophobia
(probably due to you being "in the closet" yourself).

My Poor Sick Son,

You are a former(?) evangelical protestant who pretends to be
Orthodox, a layperson who pretends to have knowledge of things you
cannot possibly understand, and an obsessed online stalker. I say this
with Christian love: Get some help.

Not even that. I would guess it's an "ordination" made up of thin air.

Maybe *I* should start calling myself a bishop and start getting
gullible people to send me money!
