A little drawing before Christmas

Unfortunately, my graphic tablet isn't as smooth as a real pencil and
doesn't fully render the expression of the original sketch.

I've had projects for graphic novels but unfortunately I've never been
able to figure out how to draw hands accurately.

A tip to draw portraits: start with an eyebrow - the eyebrow will give
you the size of the nose and the chin bones.

The trick in this drawing is that it mostly contains elements of classic
comics drawing with a little touch of Orthodox icon art, especially the
eyes: their shape is iconic, as well as the light divergent strabism
that gives the impression that the portrait in watching through you more
than to you. The golden background is also iconic.

I imagined this face after some saints and ascetics, especially Saint
Seraphim of Sarov and Elder Sophrony (for the gaze), as well as other
photos I saw in the book "An Athonite Gerontikon".
