WHAT’S THE PURPOSE OF MAN’S BIRTH?
God created many things but the greatest of all His creations is Man.
One should feel privileged to be born into this world as man. Man has
been made epitome. He is blessed with the greatest intelligence which
the other creatures lack. Does man ever think why was he given this
privilege? He never realizes that the nature was created for his
comfort but he only knows how to make the best use of the nature. A
husband thinks he is born for his wife and a wife thinks she is born
for her husband. A politician thinks he is for the people and there
are many who think differently about their birth. They do not know why
they were born. Many think they were born from air and so would return
to air. Just because man doesn’t know the purpose of his birth, we see
many committing suicides. Some curse their birth for not being born
into a rich nation or a rich family. The question isn’t where we were
born but why we were born into this world?
Everything that has been created by man has a purpose. So there should
also be a purpose for the creation of this beautiful nature. Only the
One who created it can tell us the purpose of His creation. In Genesis
1: 26, 28 God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our
likeness; let them have dominion over everything. Then God blessed
them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it
(Psalms 8:6, 8). If you take a look into these two references, we see
that God has given power to man on all that He created in six days.
What all He toiled for, He kept that in the hands of man. So, from
this, we can understand why God created every thing. It is of course
for us. Matthew 6:8 says, “For your Father knows the things you have
need of before you ask Him.” He knew beforehand all that we need to
live on this earth and so created everything before our creation. He
made the sun, the moon, the earth, water, air, plants, animals,
fruits, etc for us because He knew that we need them. Though it is He
who created the whole world and has a right to use it, He didn’t keep
anything for Himself. He gave everything to man because He made it for
man. If you think further, the sun is not created for itself, air
wasn’t created for its benefit, and likewise everything that has been
created lived neither for itself nor for the One who created it. They
all were made for us and lived for us. David said in Psalms 40: 5,
“Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; If
I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be
numbered.” So, we can understand that God thought a lot about man and
did so many things before creating him. For instance if you take
fruits, He made different varieties of fruits having different colors
and taste to suit the taste of each individual. He made animals which
give us different taste. We know that the flesh of each animal tastes
different. If we see vegetables, even they are many in number each
giving a different taste. Isaiah 45:18 says, “God formed the earth and
made it.” Psalms 115: 16 says, “But the earth He has given to the
children of men.”
So, everything was made for man but not for itself. If we take plants
or trees for instance, some are there to delight us and the others to
give us shade, fruits, flowers, vegetables and even in giving fire and
becoming coal. In this way it sacrifices its life for man happily. It
doesn’t live for itself but for man and his comforts. If you see the
life of a hen, even it sacrifices its life for a man. We use the hen
and also its eggs. It dies to become food for us. We don’t see it
living for itself or in its own way. Did it ever think why should I
die in the hand of man and committed suicide? It never does so because
it knew that it was created for man and that is the purpose of its
life.
If the nature is created for man, what or who is man created for? When
everything created by God is not for itself, even man is not made for
himself. So, let us once again ask God why He made man and for whom?
Ephesians 1:4-6 say, “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the
world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself,
according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory
of His grace; by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.” In Psalms
139:16, we see “Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.” God
saw us even before we were born. He wrote in His book about each one
of us before our very birth. He made us for Him. He wanted us to be
like Him and live for Him. He created the whole nature for man but man
is created for Him. Just think, who is God for? Acts 7:32 says, “I am
the God of your fathers- the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the
God of Jacob.” He said that He is our God and He is for us. So, when
such a Supreme Power said He is our God, shouldn’t we say that we are
His children? We should live for God in every stage of our life. Man’s
life should be dedicated to God because we are born for Him. We are
born into this world to live a life pleasing to Him and fulfill His
will. We don’t have any right to live for ourselves the way the nature
has no right for itself. The way they lived for us, we should also
live for God. That is the purpose of our life. So, it is in your hands
to decide whether you would live for God and return to Him or live
life for yourself and end up in everlasting hell.
