OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Aside from the quickie-divorce mecca of Nevada, no region
of the United States has a higher divorce rate than the Bible Belt.

Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama and Oklahoma round out the Top Five in frequency of
divorce. In a country where nearly half of all marriages break up, the divorce
rates in these conservative states are roughly 50 percent above the national
average.

David Popenoe, co-director of National Marriage Project at Rutgers University,
notes that some of the lowest divorce rates are in northeastern states with
relatively high household incomes and large numbers of Roman Catholics whose
church doesn't recognize divorce.

Bible Belt states, in contrast, are dominated by fundamentalist Protestant
denominations that proclaim the sanctity of marriage but generally do not want
to estrange churchgoers who do divorce.

"I applaud the Catholics," says Jordan. "I don't think we as Protestant
evangelists have done nearly as well preparing people for marriage. And in the
name of being loving and accepting, we have not placed the stigma on divorce
that we should have."

They must of read the bible and know that divorce is a terrible thing but
also know that it is not the unforgivable sin.
Next time post the stats on the ever growing number of people who live
together without being married in the united states and relate the blame to
the largest religion present in that country.
I believe you would call that fornication.

No, I have a roommate, we live together out of wedlock, and we
definitely don't fornicate with one another.

Fornication does not require cohabitation.

But question, does not the Bible say a divorced person
who remarries and has sex is a fornicator? And as
habitual fornicators not Christians or welcome in the
Kingdom of God?

So lets see, 50% divorced,
< 25% living together and having sex outside of marriage,
10% just having sex without cohabitation,
and lets not forget the 5-10% homosexuals who cant marry
and almost all the rest 'abusing themselves' habitually.

Makes you think there aren't to many 'Christian's in this
country, and heaven is gonna be pretty lonely.
