Hey everybody, I got bored today so I decided to look up words in my
concordance. I came across some of the words for the animals mentioned
in the Bible, and that got me to thinking. What about the animals that
aren't mentioned in the Bible? Could there be a special significance to
them? Take cats for example. I looked up that word in my concordance,
and there were no entries for it. There are a lot of animals mentioned
in the Bible, but I couldn't find any cats. Leviticus seems to have a
lot of animals mentioned in it, so I thought I'd check there. And guess
what? Still no cats. There are lots of other animals mentioned there -
eagles, storks, owls, camels, swans, weasles, bats, mice, snails,
chameleons, and turtles. But no cats. I was surprized.

So I ask you. Does anybody know if cats are mentioned in the Bible, and
if they aren't, why not? Please share any thoughts or insights.

There are alot of animals not mentioned in the bible. There was probably no
significant reason to mention them. I would not read into because the word
"cat" was not mentioned. There are lots of animals in this world and most
are not mentioned in the bible. If you were to mention every animal living,
there would be a book the size of the bible just to cover them all.

Is the reason for your interest in biblical cats the fact that you own one?
I have a cat myself and oftentimes wonder if the mentality and personality
that inhibits the little critter is spirit based. And if so, what happens to
that spirit when the body expires?

Luke 11:24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through
dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my
house whence I came out.

Yep. My local christian pet store was running a special this week on
biblical cats, so I decided to get one. It was only after checking my
concordance that I found out I got gyped. Darn it!

"Who knows that the breath of man ascends upward and the breath of the
beast descends downward to the earth?" - Eccl. 3:21

"...the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As
one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and
there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity." - Eccl.
3:19

Very interesting article. It draws some conclusions about animal rights
from the Bible that I never would have come up with on my own.

I'm curious, do you go to calvary chapel, and if you do, does this
reflect the opinion of the leadership there? Thank you for sharing this
page with me. It has been very informative.

Wait a minute. I get it now. "Curiousity killed the cat." That's what
God is trying to tell us. By excluding cats from the Bible, God is
telling us that it's wrong to be curious. I knew if I looked hard
enough, the answer would come to me.

"...ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock,
and it will be opened to you." - Luke 11:9

Yes indeed. It would be interesting to do a study of all the other
animals not mentioned in the Bible.
