Today at this holy feast of Advent, which brings
us into the time of expectation, let us above all
wait prayerfully for the Lord to come to us again
more fully through his Holy Spirit. By this we
may be more aware of his real presence, and
of what we have in him, so that we can enter a
new phase of our lives peacefully and contentedly,
patiently and joyfully.

Amid the distress that surrounds us, we await
the Lord. We are almost overwhelmed by a
feeling of deep longing in this world of misery.
But the word of the Lord which we have heard--
"I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you"--
must ever and again prevail. Yes, he will come
to us and give us comfort and help. He is
faithful and true!

Johann Christoph Blumhardt, from
The Proclamation, The Coming of Jesus.
