Later on, he is talking about times when "your ministry is not
cranking." He says "As long as you're making disciples, He is with
you. That's what the Good Book says."
That's malarky. Can anyone show me the scriptures that tell us "If
you are not making disciples, God will turn away from you for awhile."
MY Bible quotes MY God as saying "I will never leave you, nor forsake
you."
Someone was talking about emotion. I notice that Kip doesn't get
loud, he SCREAMS!!! LOUDLY!!! I have heard folks just get loud, but
his voice rasps from strain. That sounds like emotion, and
emotion-milking. Also, when Kip tells a funny, there is a person in
the audience that can be heard. This fellow sounds like he is WAY
forcing his laughter. It sounds terrible.
Kip also says "we have become embittered with self pitty. The most
destructive of all sins. The most insidious of all sins." Insidious
means evil. My Bible says the most evil (unforgivable) sin is slander
of the Holy Spirit. Not self pitty, as bad as it may be. How about a
little knowledge of the scripture here? Now I know I'm gonna get a
lot of "well, we don't know the context of that sentence." I'll tell
you what. There is no context when you make it absolute. If you say
"the most" or "the only" then there is no need for context. All the
context you need is implied by the absolute.
Kip says "We fasted for world peace. We had brothers fast up to forty
days! But today I look around this auditorium, AND OVER 50% OF YOU ARE
SIGNIFICANTLY! OVER! WEIGHT! And it's disgusting!"
The way he says "disgusting" sounds just plain loathesome. What about
genetics? Sign of sin, or just plain hard hearted? People are
different you know. That goes for body makeup as well. I knew a
woman who had a severe weight problem. She couldn't stand for more
than 3 minutes. There wasn't much she could do about it, but she was
at church nearly every Sunday. The only exceptions being severe
winter days, or times when she was too ill. Knowing her personally, I
would be appalled if anyone said "she wasn't spiritual enough, and it
showed in her weight." Of course, if you want an army of "sharp"
clones, she would certainly not fit in. It takes a lot of gaul to say
something like that, just assuming that everyone in the room eats too
much. Heck, I am overweight, yet I eat less than a lot of people I
know.
Kip goes on to say "I'm embarassed to be around some of you people. I
hug you and my hand goes into your sides."
OH WHAT volumes of Christian love this proclaims!
There's more to come....keep your eye out here.
Next in this thread there will be a selection of wav files.
I feel I have included all the context necessary in the clips. If you
don't agree, call or write your nearest source of "kingdom audio" and
order tape #9104, "Malachi: God's radical demand for remaining
radical" recorded August, 1994 in Manila.

I've said this before, but I did a study once and discovered that NO woman
in the entire New Testament is described by how she looks! Not ONE! What
does that tell you about how important Jesus thinks looks are?
The Old Testament, on the other hand, does point out that several women
were beautiful: Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Abigail, Bathsheba,
Esther...Interestingly enough, it does NOT say these women were beautiful:
Eve, Rahab, Michal, the Queen of Sheba, Ruth, the Proverbs 31 woman...
The only guys in the entire Bible called handsome by name were Joseph,
David, Absolom, Adonijah, and Daniel. Again, in the New Testament, NO
apostles, disciples or even non-Christian men were described as handsome!
Finally, we probably all know what God says about Jesus' looks...
This is an excellent point. Scripture says (Isa) Jesus wasn't much to
look at. If often thought that God made him a bit homely so it would be
his message people payed attention to, not the glitz. Seems the ICC got
that one backward.

Is there much time in the ICC to go onto a regular

This is my impression of you:
You obviously don't have a weight problem or you wouldn't be throwing
such stones.
You have a problem loving others who don't live up to your standards.
When you disciple a heavy person you must do wonders for his or her
self image. But it doesn't matter because they are unrepentant sinners,
they should feel lousy about themselves. Even if they kill themselves,
at least that is one less fat Christian giving a bad example for
Christ. Or maybe you can't even stomach having any kind of
relationship with a heavy person.
You never eat fast food or other "bad" unhealthy foods because you set
an example for Christ in everything you do.
You don't each chocolate, or drink sugar soda, or eat cake, ice cream,
pop corn, anything that has no value for your body, because your body
is the temple of God.
You lift weights, because you want to have the best looking temple for
Christ you can have.
You wear as little cloths as possible, as weather permits, so your
temple can shine for Christ.
You never relax or just have fun, because that would be wasting time
and all time is used for Christ.
You are an awesome person because you have repented of all sin in your
life, physical, and mental and you have a keen eye for others who have
not.
You will never have a marriage partner or child who is heavy.
You are a walking example of humility.
See. I have learned so much about you through your one post!
Please forgive me for responding to your post in this way, because your
attitude is such an easy "unchrist like" target, much easier than the
overweight christians who we can't see in this newsgroup.
May we all learn to love one-another more.

George, please document where your statistics came from. I broached the
subject with a psychologist friend of mine who informed me that the
majority of people who are overweight are so because of some unmet
psychological need, usually low-self esteem. Low self esteem is brought
on by exposure to an unhealthy psychological environment, like a rough
childhood. It is not sin.
Your statement, while closed-minded and self-righteous, is also
dangerous. I've posted many times on this newsgroup that I was affiliated
with a suicide in the ICC. The man I am referring to suffered from very
low self esteem as a result of life circumstances. As a result, he was
overweight. What he needed from the ICC was compassion and unconditional
love. What he got was constant haranging by closed-minded, self-righteous
individuals like yourself about his "sin" of gluttony. This brought his
self esteem even lower, and he killed himself. No one in the ICC accepted
any blame for this mans death.
Secondly, even if someone were obese because of the sin of gluttony, he
could repent immediately, but be obese for quite some time. So your
statement about "a billboard for unrepented sin" is completely in error.
I suggest you remove the plank of lack-of-compassion, lack-of-love, and
arrogance from your own eye before you remove specks from other peoples
eyes.

"fat Christian" is an oxymoron. If the person was
serious about sin, they'd be svelte, and maybe
even lithe and nimble. At any rate, they'd never
suck wind climbing several flights of stairs (though
that would be a waste of time).

Good for you! I'm trying to instill in my daughter that
it's character and virtue that make a woman
beautiful, not anorexic behavior. One problem is
that homosexual men are in control of the fashion
industry. Such men are, much more than the
usual man, fixated on appearances. They tend
to favor waifish women.

If this is a troll, I'm troll-biting.
Bullshit. Plain and simple, bullshit. The "sin of gluttony". What
are you doing, watching the movie "Seven"? Get real. I'm not saying
that being overweight is an ideal condition. It's unhealthy, hard on
the heard, the lungs, the organs. I think that when people really
want to lose weight, they find the motivation, whatever that is -
Overeaters Anonymous, Weight Watchers, joining a gym, going to a
counselor, going to a dietitian, *whatever*. But, overeating is often
simply a symptom of another thing - obsessiveness and compulsiveness.
Only instead of obsessing/compulsing with drugs, alcohol, sex,
religion, gambling, shopping, *not* eating or throwing up everything
you eat. All flip sides of the same coin. Many times you have to
deal with the *problem* in order to deal with the *symptom*.

Yep. :>

Careful, Gintas. This may be true of the gay men you know,
but I'm around a lot of homosexual people here in the SF Bay
area, at work, in various extracurricular activities, and at
church. One of my closest friends at church is a homosexual
man.
My experience is that homosexual men overall are no more (and
no less) likely to be obessed with appearances than heterosexual
men. People who are obsessed with appearances tend to gravitate
towards careers in certain fields, I suspect, and the fashion
industry is one of them. I doubt very much that the heterosexual
men are any less obsessed with appearances, or with thinness,
than the homosexual.
In either case, I'm safe from recruitment. And since I can't stand
twits whose first interest in a human being is dragging them into bed,
or judging how they look, this is good. ;>

The rest of the post snipped for brevity ...
He also has never read any articles about the research done on persons
with weight problems and how it is a problem with metabolism and how very
difficult it is for those individuals to lose weight. It JUST might be a
medical problem and not a problem of the sin of gluttony. I recently
worked with a woman who left the movement who was a recovering
anorexic/bulemic. She, in fact, had been in a clinic near death due to
this illness just prior to joining the ICC. She was gaining weight. And
her discipler told her that she was sinning and needed to repent! Thank
God her parents held the intervention before some very, very serious
ramifications were about to take place.

You almost had me applauding you, Gintas, and then you had to go blow
it! (BTW - keep up the lessons with your daughter on looks are more
than outward appearance.) Homosexual men are *not* in control of the
fashion industry anymore than jewish are in control of the banking
industry or blacks are in charge of the music industry, etc., etc.,
etc.
Granted - *most* gay men I know - and I know quite a few - take more
care of thier appearance than many straight men I know. They are more
fashion conscious and take the overall appearance. But your remark
was so bigoted & wrong. "They tend to favor waifish women".
Wrongola. That whole waif trend is simply a throwback to the 60s &
early 70s, when Twiggy was the look. Just like polyester & platforms
are back in, so is the "waif" look. It's actually dying out a bit
now, too many complaints from "normal" looking women and not enough
clothes selling, but it's this whole retro thing that's brought back
the "waif", not homosexual men who want women to look like a "waif".

FACT: The weight-loss industry is a $3 BILLION a year industry!!
If losing weight were that simple, all this $$$ wouldn't be devoted to it.
FACT: Only 3% (three percent!!) of people who join weight-loss programs
like Jenny Craig and NutriSystem are able to keep the weight off. There
are very, very few long-term solutions to weight loss.
FACT: Gymnasts, ballet dancers, etc. are notorious for having eating
disorders. If they have to starve themselves to be thin, EVEN THOUGH they
exercise for HOURS each and every day, what hope does the normal person
have, who has to work full-time and have a life outside the gym?

I presume that by "Church of Christ" you mean the Boston branch aka ICC
which is an authoritarian sect. It is the place where I was told that
lying is not a sin, but that it is very very wise and that I'd be
rebellious if I refused to lie in certain situations. Oh, so holy.
