Yes they both have churches. I left the Raleigh (Triangle COC) about
three years ago. Then it had between 400-500 members. I don't know how
it's going since I haven't been in touch for a couple of years. Mitch
Mitchell was heading it up when I left. But I left the day they announced
another big "reconstruction" so I don't know what his status is now. I
think I heard rumblings about making him an elder or something...

To my knowledge, Sam Laing is leading at Triangle. They also
recently built a church building.

Currently, the ICC's congregation in Charlotte is called the Charlotte
Church. It was planted in 1989, as the Metro Charlotte Church of Christ,
which was, I believe, a "reconstruction" of the Northview Church of
Christ.

The most recent official figures I have for the Charlotte Church are from
the ICC's July 1993 World Report, which list an average Sunday
attendence of 484, and a membership of 368 (a decine of 51 from 1/1/93).
The most recent business address which I have for it is 9307-M Monroe
Rd., Charlotte, NC 28270. The most recent phone number is 845-5205.

According to their 1992 Financial Report, 1993 Budget, and the 1993
World Report, they were experiencing a small decline in membership.
The Charlotte Churches membership goal for 1993 was approximately
500 members. Key leaders include Pat and Sharon (last names not
readily available), Mike and Tammie Gambeski, Randall Alexander,
Frank Radcliff, and Mark Via.

The Triangle Church (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill research triangle
area), my knowledge, is the only other ICC congregation in North
Carolina. It arose from a reconstructed Church of Christ in 1988.
Sam and Geri Laing, long time members of the movement, lead this
congregation. Prior to their move to NC, the Laings were in Atlanta.

As of July 1993, the average Sunday attendance was 648, and the
membership was 345 (a decline of 89 members from 1/1/93). When
the Triangle church celebrated the opening of its new building in late
1994, or early January 1995, they had a record attendance of over 1,400.
Triangle Church. This is one of the few ICC congregations which has
its own building.

In November 1995, WBTV News (Charlotte) aired a three-day video
expose on these two congregations. The expose was entitled,
"International Churches of Christ -- Ministry or Mind Control?"

Actually the building was built 5-6 years ago. Did they build ANOTHER? I
drove by it last year and they had added a good bit to it.

Man! It was wierd driving into that parking lot again. I felt like some
kind of interloper!

Even more interesting is that Sam Laing is the evangelist. It seems to me
that was the name I heard as I was fleeing the auditorium. Could it be
that the Triangle still has the SAME head evangelist. The thought of
stability there is too scarey to imagine.

They must have built a second building then because when I left in May
1993 they had had a new building for a year or two.

I heard they recently left LA, and the Marutzkys (formerly of the
Denver church) took their place as leaders of the LAICC's West Region.
Do you perhaps have any other information about this move?

Thank you.

Regarding the Triangle Church, does anyone know if they have a
husband/wife team of music ministers? Or is there such thing in the ICC?

Don't know about the Triangle Church, but Robert and Kimberly Duncan
are a "husband/wife team of music ministers" in Boston. They moved
from NYC to Boston about two years ago and have put together at least
one album (with others), "Radical Love."

It was all the rage in the BCC (read 'overplayed!') I'll post some
of it if anyone likes.

<anyone recommend a very *compressed* sound format?>

Couple notes to throw out there (no pun intended...)

The duncan's have ties to Sam Laing and Triangle (I don't know how, but I
know they receive credits in the liner notes....)

I liked the Radical Love disc on first listening - but now I can only
handle perhaps one or two tunes....then again, all stock pop gets to
me..my tastes are far far more avant-garde than that....or just plain
much louder than that! :) :)

Please don't post samples up here...

The musicians are all quite excellent, actually. They're just pretty
reserved on this particular pop stuff (church gigs). Most of them
were in my ministry and D-Group.

Sal DiFusco plays a *very* mean guitar... and Pat Loomis would always
knock me out on that alto sax he sports.

How about "All Nations?" Randy has a gift for lyrics, no? <snicker>
