I noticed this a long time ago with people mixing Talwin with a similar
old-school antihistamine. Apparently mixing (older H1) antihistamines
with various opiates has this effect.
No, none of the US OTC antihistamines (diphenhydramine or medicine) can do this
as far as I know. Promethazine may or may not do this...its often added to
codeine cough syrups here by pharmaceutical companies, so obviously they're
aware of the potential of mixing certain antihistamines with opiates.
Before you guys go trolling for Promethazine, remember that it is a very
weak relative of thorazine (some antihistamines also have antipsychotic
properties, with all the side effects that typically accompany such a drug).
Plus these types of antihistamine/antipsychotic tend to have a "paradoxical"
reaction in quite a few people...you get real anxious and have this feeling of
intense restlessness (I ran into this a few years ago when an ER used a similar
first generation H1 inverse agonist on me to control some nausea I had...can't
recall the name of it at the moment).
Vistaril (hydroxyzine), a commonly used antihistamine in America, is sometimes
mixed with codeine to improve the latter's performance.
You guys should be really trying not to do any of this, though. You should make
your family happy and be opiate free forever.

They certainly do a great job of enhancing my morphine buzz when I do
take them with my two Kadian SR 60mg capsules. You should check out
what happens when you mix the Kadian SR with histamines.
