Easy to make things up when the man's locked up, isn't it? why don't you
post that messages, headers included, so that we know you're not just
having another one of your peebrain moments.

ADH has close to 30-something regulars; they just post erratically
(60 posts in two weeks followed by a single post the next four weeks, etc).
I've had a few programs track this place back to March (the earliest posts
currently available on most servers) and accumulate a list of users who have
posted 10 or more times in the span of the last six months onto a list, along
with their (probable) physical location, given name, and e-mail address (if the
e-mail given happens to be legit, anyway). After using a few filters to rid the
list of spammers, I have a workable ADH roster of 30 "unverified" IDs and 5-10
possible "sockpuppets".
Then after that all I have to do is type names into Google Groups, look for
older posts where the user may have used a different nickname or e-mail
address, then run those names and e-mail addresses through too. I also
use regular Google and the Digg search engine to find places outside of
Usenet that the user may have participated in online. If I managed to pull
a full name during any of this it's off to the races, because I'm already aware
of the general area (within a 5-10 mile radius typically) that their internet
service is from. So then all I have to do is go to a phone registry (i.e.
whitepages.com) and see if I can find a matching name and phone number.
At this point I usually present my hand to the offender in question and nine
times out of ten they surrender right there.
Even you foreign fuckers aren't immune to this. In fact I suspect non-American
ADHers are actually sloppier about what information they put out there. You're
a pretty good example there, "Adamski".
Sometimes all I have to do is search through their archived posts on Google
Groups and search using certain "keywords"; when you nutters get all fucked up
and post those long, rambling rants that don't appear to be familiar with the
concept of "paragraph breaks" or "periods"...well, let's say that I used to find
these rants to be trash but when I paid closer attention to what the person
was attempting to say, I realized you guys just spill out your whole life, past
and present, for people to investigate. Droppin' names and locations and
unintentional clues about where you are and what you're doing in regards to
employment or hospitalization, etc...well that trash turns into treasure,
now doesn't it?
Lucky, I'm trying to give you a warning here. Submit to me or watch your friends
suffer the consequences of your actions.
You guys could've had a positive interaction with me instead. I could've told
you things that would've made your life better, whether that be sober or not.

I'm sure that after this post there will be a few people running to Google
Groups to have their stuff wiped from the archives...good luck on that, kids;
you need to have made those posts with an intact e-mail address WITHOUT
the spamblocks that people normally throw into their address to lower their
chances of being spammed. And even if you did, it takes them around a week
or so to process cancel archive requests. As far "x-no-archive: yes", that won't
work because I'll make sure to get the actual article from off a Usenet server
(x-no-archive is for Google and a few other archivers; Usenet servers do not
typically acknowledge the header) and save it, headers and all. Furthermore,
I think that would be somewhat stupid to initiate because quite a few ADHers
use Google to post and to any newbie that comes by via GG will see about a
week's worth of "regular" posts followed by tons of archived spam. The long
term effect would be to choke off new life from this place, killing it slowly as
old regs die/go to prison/etc and nothing new appears to fill the vacuum
that things like that cause.
And, if there's continual disobedience? Well, let's say I'm working on making
an improved version of this open source program:

I consider this a last-resort "nuclear" option, though; a friend I know that
used a modified version on a newsgroup totally destroyed the whole culture that
had grown there over a decade and rendered the place into an spam wasteland. And
that was only after using the device for two weeks.
But I suspect that if someone were to, oh say...go to every public internet
kiosk in his area, load this program up and had it running in the background
until the computers were shut off for the night, and make sure to include
a long list of public servers so it could jump servers if the one it's currently
using decides to terminate access for whatever reason...
Of course, this last part is all "conjecture", as I would never use NewsAgent
on my own server...for some reason most ISPs consider this program to be
a "pure DoS attack program". So any prospective user is best to use some
sort of alternate ISP (or public internet terminal) to pursue usage of
NewsAgent.
But who knows? perhaps a few mysterious folks using open servers at
public internet terminals will step up if ADH takes it to that level.
I'm thinking about looking up a few people on my list already. If it only took
me ten minutes to figure ND's address and phone number, it shouldn't be
too hard to spend an hour and see if I can crank my output of ID'd users to 10.
Wow...the code is 8 years old and still very viable in this day and age. I guess
Usenet staying relatively static as its been has its drawbacks, no?
