My friend may lose her house & has moved into a rental house. Have been
helping her clean the new house as we go along. I won't touch the od
place because she let it get so deplorable.

Wiped inside of all kitchen cabinets with mild soapy water before I let
her put anything inside of them. Have been running each load of dishes
brought over through dishwasher before I let her put them in cabinets.

She has a cute old mini china cabinet that I rubbed with lemon oil.
Then placed the items that belong in it away after wiping & drying each
one. She thanked me for helping make this house feel like a "home."

In kitchen wiped dust off each spice container with soapy solution &
dried, also. Found 2 turntables to put spices on. Used 1 for cooking
spices & 1 for baking items. Placed them in alphabetical order.

Also, wiped shelves in big bathroom, linen closets, & bedroom closets.
Showed her the dirty water so she would understand why I was bossy & did
not want her to put anything in them until I had done that.

My mother has been teaching me how to clean stuff.
It's something I didn't learn when I was younger.
Somehow my sister picked it up by osmosis but
watching how they were cleaning is something I
never paid attention to, then.

You can't have everything. . . where would you put
it?

Exactly my situation. Sis is a natural neatnik, and I had to follow my first
cleaning person around for a year (at every visit, twice monthly to start) to
pick up the basics. It was another year of practice before I got "okay" at it.
Big thing for me was learning the process of a particular task, that each had
a beginning, middle and end. It's hugely freeing to see that something is
actually going to get completed if you just do X, Y, and Z. :-)

Yes, I think there is definitely a "neat gene" that some people have
that causes it to come naturally to them. The rest of us, I believe,
can learn to do it to a certain reasonable level, but we likely won't
ever achieve their Martha Stewart level of perfection if it isn't in our
nature, at least not without driving ourselves crazy.

Just my theory <g>

Have been at her house 2 more days cleaning, lemon oil polishing, &
putting "treasures" in places to be enjoyed rather than stuck away in
obscure, dusty, holes, nooks, crannies, etc.

Rained about 18 hours yesterday & received about 3 inches. Was cold for
us in mid 40s the whole day.

Sure miss Lee. Nobody heard about her past week or so???

Yesterday went to her house after shopping. Did 4 loads in dishwasher.
Moved canned goods from old house & put in pantry.

Hand washed a few items. We went to IHOP & had the pecan pie pancakes
with eggs, hash browns, bacon.

YUM YUM YUM

Tasted like half a pecan pie. (Southern girls love their pecan pie.)

Then I did nothing while watching 2 TV movies & she wrapped presents for
grand-children. then had popcorn & hot tea. Stayed up until 1:00 am.
