bfr & aft of master bedroom: *new* photos up

where I sleep should be restful and tidy so I can go forth and conquer the
rest of the house. I was not going to leave it until last. besides, it was
about the only room I felt I had design license with at the time. There's
not much of a before picture but I can tell you our room before this was in
a one bedroom apartment. We used a coin operated laundry room and had no
place for our laundry except our bedroom. We were outgrowing the apartment,
especially after DD arrived and I seldom made my bed. I got the current
bedroom in shape as soon as possible and it has remained acceptable ever
since.
1. BFR. VIEW 1: LOOKING TO THE RIGHT
- Mom helped us move in and I gave her six pairs of frilly white curtains
from the house
- used the heavy colonial style tv stand (gladly inherited with the house)
for nearly three years then painted it for rec room redo last year until I
put it at the curb (to make rec room look more spacious) this Spring when we
put the house up for sale
2. BFR. VIEW 2: LOOKING FROM FAR CORNER
- the carpet and underlay were worn flat! where you see the traffic pattern
- small walk-in closet had two long poles running down the sides actually
making it a squeeze-in closet
- bathroom wallpaper was removed very easily within a month of moving in
3. VIEW FROM COMPUTER CHAIR
- I am at my computer often enough to have a low tolerance for my bed left
unmade
- wall is painted a corn husk green and does look just like its name
4. AFTER 1: OCT '02
- the scanner put stripes on the wall not me
- the lighter pillow was my inspiration piece when I fell in love with it
- the drapes are actually cotton, woven blankets
- my mother made the doilies at the bedside
- the tall, 3-legged bedside table actually folds flat and belonged to my
paternal grandfather's aunt
- the cedar chest on the other side of the bed was my maternal grandmother's
wedding gift from her parents and my brother replaced the broken bottom
piece on it before I refinished it in a dark walnut stain in his garage
5. AFTER 2: OCT '02
- door was replaced two years ago and remains unfinished (DH's over due
project)
- the hardwood floor and even the fake wood dressers look much better after
some color went on the walls
6. AFTER 3: OCT '02
- the rocker/recliner is partly covered with a nice chenille tapestry fabric
and a quilt I made for the room is on the lower, unfinished half (my over
due project)
- on the dresser sits a doll my maternal grandmother made wearing a dress my
mother made
- my grandfather in Canada coincidentally had the same lamp
- the china figurines were ones my paternal grandmother had
- my first still life painting peeps out from behind some pictures (oh gosh,
they were there in Oct and are still there!)

I was the cat
for this house--and the floors are so nice--did you have to re-finish them?
My Mom's walk-in closet is also one of those "squeeze-in" kind. We put
double rods on one side--which made it much roomier--but then she filled the
other side where the other rod had been up with stuff--it's back to being a
squeeze-in unless I can talk her into letting me help her go through the
stuff--tossing some and possibly finding another place to store the other
stuff.
It's lovely that you have been able to incorporate items from your family in
the decor.
It's just fabulous!

satisfy me. The room gets more northern light so it had to be a yellower,
warmer green. The room reminds me of a lot of English born Canadian women's
places I've been to.
